:D The smart thing is to re-unite and make things right with Jimi Jamison and Jim Peterik ! On a business level it makes the most sense. Share the name and divide it into the three guys that keep the songs alive.
Asia is owned by all four original members .
I am certain though that Peterik and Jamison don't need this to happen .
It makes no sense not to make as much money as possible doing what you love doing.

I am a huge Eddie Money fan .. I wonder what happened with his long time keyboard player Randy Forrester ? I am sure it has been hard for Chris Grove to make a living just playing in Survivor unless he does other things on the side. Eddie has a huge live following and Grove will get plenty of work.. It will be interesting hearing him on Eddie's top 10 hits like Take Me Home Tonight , I Wanna Go Back & Walk On Water .

I am excited about it..

I am going to see Eddie Money this Friday. I will see if I can talk to Chris.

Asia - name ownership

Postby Diffworlds » Fri Mar 28, 2008 5:10 pm

"I heard that John Payne is the Official owner of the Asia name. Someone correct me... "

I had read that someplace also. I am assuming that is why John Payne is touring as "Asia featuring John Payne". He is also using the "Asia f/ John Payne" to finishing recording and release the "Architects of Time" CD that he & Geoff Downes started before the origianl Asia reformed. I guess some sort of business deal was worked out so that both groups could use the name.

Never will happen. Can't say much on here, but suffice to say in short order all will become clear. JP and Jimi together have a "piece" of the intellectual side of the Survivor Brand. As a brand with bands you think of the name first and then 90% of the time think of the singer. No one outside of Chicago thought of JP when they thought of the brand Survivor. That is not a knock on him at all, he was a huge part of everything that was Survivor back then.....however, they thought of the Singer (Jimi) and then Frankie. They were the upfront guys. JP never had this with his tenure with the band. He was the keyboardist in Survivor and back then no one really noticed. In THIS community after 1996 people noticed, but by then the band was a tenth of what it was in popularity and pop culture status. JP played Survivor tunes, and still does, at every show he plays. However, as far as Survivor goes, and as far as the masses goes, JJ and FS are who they would mentally link to the name Survivor. Now that JP has aligned him self with JJ he has some street cred while playing the Survivor catalogue because he has the original singer of alot of those hits (just not the singer of their biggest hit)....whether they sound as good Survivor while doing them means nothing....it is JJ singing Survivor tunes with an original member....this will benefit both of them, but JP more....

JP doing the Survivor catalogue with the Ides, or POL, or World Stage, or solo will never ever be as potent as when he is doing them with Jamo up front...it's a good business move....

And as far as Jamo's voice getting in shape, give Jamo all the credit on that one....as a singer I know that in the end only YOU can change how you treat your vocal chords.....and it sounds like Jamo has done all the right things....I give him kudo's and complete respect for that....

There is absolutely no reason for all of them to share the stage at this point....Frankie has Survivor humming along right now, and believe me, as you will see has his ducks in a row...and JP and JJ have their own thing going, while it's not Survivor, and never will be, it is a good "Vehicle" for both of them....

My 2 cents....

I love JP and his songwriting, but Jamison and Peterik coming back wouldn't do anything for Survivor's commercial viability. Hell, DeYoung back to Styx or Perry back to Journey wouldn't be anywhere near the big deal that people around here think it would be. The songs would definitely improve, that's for sure, but no one would notice. I'd love to see a Survivor with Bickler Jamison JP and FS at the core, but it'll never happen. Nor would it matter that much to people if it did.

:D All I can say is this. Jimi Jamison is at the top of his game ! Jimi has the power and passion back in his vocals. I know it might not be 1985 again but damn he still has it.. I think Jamo has the best voice out of everyone from his era . That makes this exciting for me. To this day I still blast Vital Signs and When Seconds Count with a little Burning Heart sprinkled in.

It never mattered to me Jimi didn't sing the original Eye Of The Tiger . I think they have had far better and deeper songs than that one anyway. Survivor wasn't just a one dimentional band. I wasn't a fan of their hard rocking stuff.. I enjoy and enjoyed the heavy keyboard / piano vocal style. Jimi has been singing Eye Of The Tiger since 1984 ! 24 years and people still say he has no right to sing it ! Come on..!

A band is business .. I am sure most of the bands out there don't enjoy what they have to play but that was the style and the sound / songs that made them chart credibility and financial success .

Jimi is the face and voice of Survivor period..From all these recent greatest hits releases etc etc.. He is on the front or back of the cd sleeve.. The original is there too inside but Jamo is the main one identified as the vocalist.

If they record new versions of these old tunes or a acoustic form we'll all forget or care who plays on them as long as Jamo is back to form..

Couldn't disagree more...

Do you even own a Survivor album pre-Vital Signs?

I mean as long as they're DOING I'm good with them, even if I'm not totally sold on McRobin yet.

Play more, record albums.

To me Joe Vana's cryptic post hinted at LEAST at a ratcheting up of activity level in the band.
