I would say that Survivor were just as popular/successful as Loverboy. But your right about the other bands.
On a side note, one time was at a Cleveland Indians Baseball game and I was wearing a Survivor T-shirt that had all of the members pictures on the back of the shirt. The guy siting behind me asked me what band the shirt was of. I told him it was Survivor, and his response was "Oh yeah, their great, a fine Canadian band." I assume he was confusing Survivor with Loverboy?
That story is hilarious! J/S I was merely going by album sales. Loverboy has sold over 11 million albums and I believe they headlined more than Survivor and at bigger venues. Survivor is my favorite band and I was always disappointed they didn't make it bigger. I blame it on scotti brothers and bad marketing.
Do you have any idea how many albums Survivor have sold over the years? I've always wondered?
The EOTT, Vital Sings and WSC albums all sold pretty well. I would think that Survivor would have reached at least 11 million albums sold by now?
Another somewhat related story that I'll mention.... Back in about 1995 or so, Survivor were booked at a large and popular nightclub in Cleveland. But when the promoter of the club found out that Jamison had his own band that he was calling Survivor, and that they would do the show for much less money, the promoter canceled Survivor and booked Jamison's "Survivor" instead.
Anyway, I had a conversation with the promoter, and me and a couple of friends of mine were suggesting that he also book Loverboy at the club. At first he seemed surprised and asked us if we thought that anyone even cared about seeing Loverboy anymore. We said that we thought that they would still be a good draw, and that he should book them. He said that he would give it some thought. About a week later I saw an add for the club and that they had booked Loverboy. Anyway, as soon as he saw me at the Loverboy show he remembered me and thanked me for the suggestion, and said that he was pretty sure that it was turning out to be the biggest crowd of the year at the club.
