That First Night video was god awful. Sounds like Robin inhaled some helium or something. I've heard him sound decent on Summer Nights, that's about it :/

Frankie rocked as usual and their background vocals seem to have improved since the earlier days. But I just can't accept Robin as lead singer for Survivor.

Thanks for this. Did you go to this particular show? Or you sincerely think Survivor sound great? 8)

My first thoughts: First Night was alright, but the energy top! That said, seems like the original keys.

Burning Bridges ROCKED! 8)

More thoughts to come....

Here's a guy who went to the show and said he was ready to be disappointed but he states "The whole band was fantastic! I've seen Survivor over 25 times starting at the local bars in '79-81, but this was one of the best. Wish there were more shows this year!"

Those beat my thoughts

Somewhere in America was pretty good. Robin really hits the notes when he sings "wish she would raise her hands.."

Not sure what you're askin - but I've only seen them once, with JJ, a few years ago at the Classic Rock Main Event. They were fantastic. Robin is an energetic, charismatic frontman who just to my ears doesn't have the pipes to sing for Survivor. His style is just wrong. The guy's a great vocalist in his own right, but this is NOT his niche. It's about as sensible as having Steve Perry front Dream Theater.

So you did not go to any Robin fronted show. If you have a chance go to one (if they happen to come near your area), then decide whether Robin works or not. He has the pipes but perhaps not the sound you are looking for.

Im thinking so far Survivor has "survived" 2 years with Robin, and showing no real signs of slowing down. Perhaps people feel he's doing atleast a pretty decent job. If the crowd were say flipping him off, I doubt the band would carry on this way.

On top of that, check the crowds chanting for "One More!", its incredible that they just don't give up! Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7yijQI9 ... re=related

Interesting that the new keyboardist Michael Young also plays guitar. Wonder if its the first time Survivor had 3 guitarists? Anyone know?

Survivor had 3 guitarist in the beginning.....Jim played guitar. Played it live on the 82 tour on Children of the Night and Rebel Girl back in the 90's.

Who's three? Does McAuley play guitar? Did Bichler? I know he had some keyboard credits on the first album or two.

I probably would if I could. I'm sure the price would be low. Trouble is, I don't get too many chances of them coming near me when they play only a handful of dates... Night Ranger is the same way, and I'd love to see them again at some point.

But you are right, live performances are often the place a singer can win skeptical fans over. Much more so than an album or a video.

Frankie must have bad knees by now, he's been doing the same move for over 25 years. Running is not good on the knees and he's been doing that running in place move for a long time. He's jamming though.

You bet! Love the song, ALWAYS did.

Robin DID actually sound high pitched in it, but its a song that if not played in the right key doesn't have the same urgency to it. I think...so good going for the band.

Yes, I eventually thought of that after posting, that Jim did play guitar with Frankie in the old days. But didn't know that even from '82 there were three and in the 90's. Thanks for that Axe :)

I would assume Michael is doing rhythm guitar. Doubt he could match Jim like the old or the new days

I have to agree his style is different. But Frankie seems to believe that Robin is what Survivor needs, someone who can do the original keys. I'll respond to your other reply at the appropriate place. :)

Tito, it is obviously a response to your sig. Some people don't know that it says Cain to refer to Jon Cain of Journey. The rest was reference to the "Motto". Funny thing, the poster asks to keep politics out of it, then actually inserts the politics where there had been none! ;)
