Survivor the first album

Postby Tito » Wed Aug 27, 2008 4:39 am

What does everyone think of this album? I like it alot. Good songs that rock and have a raw feel. Somewhere in America is probably the most popular song of the album. I know a lot of people here like Nothing Can Shake Me (From Your Love). I like most, if not all, of the songs but Can't Get You off of My Mind, Love Has Got Me, The Whole Towns Talkin', along with the above mention songs are probably the ones I like the most. Discuss.

Their most organic album....lots of acoustic guitars and live sounding vocals.....

I simply love 'nothing can shake me'....bickler's vocals are haunting...GREAT SONG!...Has to be the most underated song in rock history...

'raving like a maddd mannnn'.....

You can just feel the desperate tone in it that a person gets when someone they care about walks away....'help me find her..."

Somehow, somewhere...someway........

I guess I should technically put Rebel Girl in this as well. This is a great song and one of their best. I'm crank up the radio when the Loop plays it on Saturday night sometimes.

Is it me...but I don't think Somewhere in America isn't even in the top 5 songs on this album!

The Whole Towns Talkin' is the only song from the debut that I rate as good as the stuff from the latter albums. The first album doesn't sound like Survivor to me. Apart from Rebel Girl of course, but from some strange reason the band didn't include it on the album. I see definite continuation in songs The Whole Towns Talkin', Poor Man's Son and Eye of The Tiger.

Haven't seen any mention about 20/20 or Freelance from this album? I always loved these - Not sure I'd want to put an order to them but for sure I'd never press the "skip" button. 8)

Rebel Girl was written after the album was done and out. The story goes that the band was doing a soundcheck at Max's Kansas City(at least I think that's where it was) and were doing Rebel Girl during the soundcheck, having recently written it. The label was there and heard it,loved it and wanted to record it. Since the album was already out, they recorded it as a single with the understanding that if it broke big, they would repress the 1st album and include Rebel Girl on the new pressing. It never happened. But I can say without a doubt, Rebel Girl is one of my all-time favorite Survivor tunes, even ahead of Tiger etc.

I blast the radio when the WLUP plays it on Saturday nights. They didn't play it this past Saturday but before it was played 2 out of the last 3 Saturdays.

HEY THAT's pretty cool about Rebel Girl! You CHI-TOWN people have all the luck! I'd never be that lucky to hear RB on the radio around here. I do have three recording of RB........Survivor, the Ides and the OUtlaws!

I knew the Ides did it but haven't heard it. The Outlaws I never knew they recorded it.

A friend of mine ranks "Can't Get You Off Of My Mind" in his top 5 favorite Survivor songs.

For me personally, it totally sounds like Survivor. Just not the polished radio friendly version of Survivor on albums like Vital Signs and When Seconds Count.

Freelance is one of my favorites off the album. I love that straight-ahead Hard-Rocking and raw sound and feel to it.

Yes, I have all 3 of those versions of the song too. In fact, I got to hear the Outlaws and Ides versions of it before the Survivor version. I had never heard the Survivor version of it until they released it on the Japanese CD release.

The most "obscure" Survivor song I've ever heard on the radio was Broken Promises.

I can say that I've heard Eye Of The Tiger on the radio in 3 different country's, USA, Canada and Mexico. The time it Mexico it was on the radio in a taxi I was ridding in.
