It's not on par with a normal Survivor album, but we probably make it sound worse than it really is.

I don't think it is nearly as good as the Fire Makes Steel Demos or even Empires for that matter.

On another note, much like jv, i really just couldn't make myself get into 'Above the Storm' and i tried and tried and tried....

Frankie without JP misses something, but JP without Frankies might miss even more.

We'll be able to better tell after hearing this new JJ album I surely hope....

I am excited about it...

JP without Frankie misses more? Ok, Above the Storm fair enough, I love it, but if it's not your bag I understand. But Pride of Lions/Ides kick ass too. Plus, JP's so prolific as a "session writer" as well...

After having just listened to the samples that are here on MR.....I have to say that Jimi sounds great, and the lyrics sound like the normal excellent songwriting that you always hear from Peterik. My one concern though (so far) is that I'm not hearing any of that driving force you would hear from Frankie Sullivan's guitar playing and Marc Droubay's drumming. Just to be clear here, I know that Sullivan and Droubay are of course NOT on the album and that it's not a Survivor album.

But what I mean is that I miss hearing Jamison's vocals and Peterik's lyrics being supported by Sullivan and Droubay's musical contributions.

I hope that once I hear the whole album that I will find that it Rocks more than what I'm hearing from the samples.

But either way, Jamison's vocals and Peterik's writing will no doubt make the album more than enjoyable on their own.

I agree with this.

The songs definitely have the Peterik sound to them.

It IS a good album....and since it is all the POL guys minus Toby it has that sound that alot of you guys like.....It DOES rock, it has character.....as far as FS and MD, YES, without those two it will not sound just like Survivor (nothing does), but the songs are in that vane....it will not replace Vital Signs, WSC and THTS on my list of Desert Island discs...but it is a good album...now if FS were to have co-written the songs and MD on drums....hmmmmm....now that would be cooking with gas....

You guys will enjoy the album......JV

And I'm not sure if that's a good thing either. I like POL and like the musicians in that band but it does take a little away from this CD because it sounds so much like POL or JP's band. I think it may have been better to have different musicians in there to mix up and sound different than POL. But that's just me.

Yeah, I love Stephan's bass playing. Very underrated bass player who added a great deal to the overall sound of Survivor. He's also the best bass player IMO to be teamed up with Droubay.

Even though I like Droubay and Ellis playing even better than Gary Smith and Dennis Keith Johnson's, I have always felt that Smith and Johnson helped form some of the foundation of the Survivor sound, and that Droubay and Ellis took some of their musical cues from the styles that Smith and Johnson had first used in Survivor.

JOE VANA

Can you answer this question for me....did Smith and Johnson leave Survivor on their own, or were they replaced by the band?

It's more than fine dude....JP's World Stage, Lifeforce, POL and JJ's album have all the same guys....it is a cohesive unit though.....Mike Aquino who is a Jazz/Blues king let me tell you is probably the musical director of sorts...his knowledge technically is unmatched.....if he was around in the 80"s in LA he would be a rich man....the sound of the JJ album is very much the sound of the POL stuff, one can argue the point, but I hear what I hear in my opinion.....and ALOT of you dug the POL stuff so like I said earlier ALOT of you will really dig JJ's album.....the first POL album (Jim's first album aftger Mecca with me) was their finest effort I thought....and I do hear similarities between the POL stuff and the JJ album....alot of them....but you have Jamo on this vs. Toby, and Toby has unharnessed power and strength to his voice.....and Jamo has that golden tone and years and years of experience.....probably a tough call for some of you....I will keep who I prefer to myself....

Again...you guys will like this album.....

:D I love the pre-views .. Jimi does sound awesome .. Jim Peterik is without a doubt the heart and soul behind the words and music.

Us fans should just be very happy that these guys can still go and rock and continue their careers. I really like the crystal clear production and the deep song writing .

The Survivor days are over with the core members no matter how bad we all want it.
I am sure if there was a huge financial gain to all of them they would re-unite regardless of the bad blood. My opinion .

I am also not sure if Jimi wasn't with Jim Peterik he would sound as good as he does.
Variety is the key to the success of these songs .. Jimi at nearly 60 to sound as good as he does at this moment is incredible .

The songs to me are awesome .. This isn't the 80's but you hear the real deal and voice that helped create some of the best tunes that are forever burned in my memory .

Hey Andrew,

Any chance Jim Peterik could do a track-by-track, behind the songs type thing? Knowing the inspiration and thought processes behind each track really brings something to it for me. Enjoyed reading those little notes on the first two Pride of Lions albums (and on the website for the third album).

Can't wait to hear Jamo and Bickler trading vocals! :-D

Hope the video goes ahead as advertised in the press release.

Thanks,

- Danny.

Couldn't agree more! I also enjoy Jim's influence on the JLT Sunstorm project.

I've actually quite enjoyed all three Pride of Lions studio albums so I am really stoked to see CM get compared to any of them.
