Nice job....1 question. Were the lead vocals low in the mix or is it a product of the taping process?

:D I listened to that show .. Jimi sounded good. I noticed sometimes his voice is horse on youtube.com recent videos and other times he sounds like he did in the 80's.

The new cd will make him sound like a million bucks.

I think his voice is rocky . Behind The Music song sounds awesome and close to his 80's style studio performance. The live stuff I have heard is uneven . Hoarse vocals on some of the songs, other stuff he has that horse power behind him. I am his biggest fan and I am also a singer . I have tried to study and copy his vocal delivery . I would hope he has cut back on smoking or quit while recording to make his throat stronger.
His pitch is still there . It seems like he needs to workout out and concentrate on stamina and build up wind . It is weird how some voices just don't sound anything like they used to at all . I have the Rock Pop Masters live cd. 58 years old or whatever he his isn't all that old and many singers are better now than they were when they toured 150 times a year. John Wetton is a prime example of heavy smoking and drinking and listen to him now and he has the horse power to deliver like he used to. Lou Gramm sounds much better now than he did 7-10 years ago.

On his myspace Peterik's song A Kiss To Remember is re-recorded with his vocals and he doesn't sound very much like him and hoarse there. When he had The Heart Of A Woman on there he sounded awesome . I am confused .

Some singers just have the voice and don't entertain in any other way. I saw Eddie Money last night live and he is all over the place . He is singing , playing harmonica , spinning the tamborine & playing sax . He looks a lot older and worn out than a lot of singers but he can sure kick some serious ass live . One of the best live performers and has great sing a long songs.

Studio production I am sure will make Jimi sound much better than he did on Empires or Reach .

I am also confused on the set list Jimi plays . If I had the success with Vital Signs etc I would be playing that whole album live. Throw in Eye Of The Tiger of course but that would be the shit live. If the guys were all still together maybe they would like other bands have done.

What do you all think ?

I think Jimi Jamison is an amazing singer...his voice has changed, he does not have the range he once had and in the studio Millas (JP's engineer) will clean it up....it sounds like smoking a few packs a day has worn his voice....he is an amazing talent, and I still believe that in 1985 he was one of the top ten pop/rock vocalists in the world....

I hope the album sounds great, I hope Jimi sounds great....I just want the songs to be more than the "write by numbers" or "same template" kind of thing....we have heard those songs all before...something new and different PLEASE!!!! With that being said, I again hope that JJ sounds great......and I am sure he will!!!!

A big fan.....JV

He smokes? Did he just start recently or has he been doing it all along? He should definitely try to kick the habit. I thought he sounded great on the Voices of Rock Radio recording though. Can't quite get all the notes and strains a bit but sounds good overall.

I have a dvd from 1995 and he has a smoke at the side of the stage during the instrumental segment of the Doors Riders Of The Storm that he used to cover.

Just for the record, This recording is not by the band

Postby DigiMix » Wed Nov 12, 2008 9:39 pm

I just want everyone to know that the live recording of "Voices of Rock Radio" is a bootleg.
I know this to be fact since I am the Production manager / Sound Engineer for the band. EPRESLY
must have been a fan at the show and recorded it on some device easily concealed. The recording
quality is obviously not something any band would allow to be distributed to the general public
on purpose.

He has smoked for many, many years, unfortunately. I'm pretty sure he was already smoking before he joined Survivor in 1984.

He should quit, first and foremost for his health, and secondly because it would help his voice and lung capacity for singing.

I have been around Jimi for days at a time and seen him smoke maybe 8 cigs....he is NOT a heavy smoker, actually, I wish he'd quit too but that is easier said than done, did it for twenty years and the only way I quit was I had surgery and was out of it for like 6 days...slept thru the withrdrawl...didn't even think bout it, was strange....but back to my point, if he smokes a half a pack a day I would be surprised, at time, when he is nervous, yes he smokes more....but not a lot.

smoking

Postby Cheryl » Mon Dec 01, 2008 1:23 pm

Jimi isn't the only singer that I know that smokes....lots of singers do, not the best for your health or voice but we aren't here to judge them, just to enjoy the vocals and the music.

Kevin,

I disagree about album tracks and listening to the whole cd, that's why I love to drive, got a six cd player in the jag and I listen to whole cd's, reload with new ones when I stop to get gas, but then again, I am not your average rock fan....lol...shut up, I hear you laughin, don't say a word!
