Eversince The World Began ?

Postby PianoMan1986 » Tue Dec 09, 2008 4:25 am

I recently came across this song since I'm trying to gradually build my Survivor collection and thought it was probably one of the best ballads that I've ever heard (going out on a limb here). The music and the vocals that Bickler belted out were great. Anyway, my question(s):

1) Is there any live footage of Dave performing this, or Jimi for that matter?
2) Did sheet music ever exist for this piece?

Thanks for your time and for reading,

Nick

You're like me. I just bought Too Hot Too Sleep about two weeks ago. I just started to listen to When Seconds Count a couple of months ago. Anyway, this is one of their better songs definitely. It's big in the Phillipines.

So far I only have Vital Signs, When Seconds Count, and Too Hot To Sleep (probably my fav. from them at the moment). I've seen that clip with Arnel before -- that's what actually drew my attention to the song in the first place so I searched to find the audio for the original and was just blown away.

Why am I the only one having trouble grasping the greatness of THTS? LOL It's getting easier on the ears the more and more I listen to it. But I would still say it's still near the bottom of the catalog.

I guess it's because (to my ears) it's different than the previous two albums (although they were good too), but I have nothing else to compare them to album-wise because I've only heard various hits with Bickler.

A lot of people say that is their favorite album though. Even with just the three you mentioned, I would put THTS as #3 on that list. I just guess there is something wrong with me.

I love Across The Miles and Didn't Know It Was Love, but other than that, I don't play the album that much. Not bad, but I'm not choosing it over my other Survivor discs too often

In addition to the original Survivor version of "Ever Since The World Began" from the Eye Of The Tiger album, there are also versions of it recorded by Jimi Jamison, and a version of it recorded by Tommy Shaw. As well as the Youtube clips of it being performed live by "The Zoo."

When you get to the Bickler era (song wise I think that era is a little better), probably the Eye of The Tiger album and in my opinion the first album are the best. Premonition is very good as well and you won't go wrong with that one either. I would buy Caught In The Game last.

Tito, I'm gonna shock the hell out of you. My two favorite Survivor albums are Too Hot To Sleep & Caught In The Game. With Eye Of The Tiger a close third. But those are also my favorite albums for Sullivan's guitar playing, which is a big reason they rank so high on my list.

You disgust me. JUST KIDDING     . Like I said in another thread those may be my two least favorite albums of the catalog. Both are still good though especially CITG.

ESTWB is my favourite Survivor ballad. Its goes like this for me, if you are fan of ESTWB its the masculine side of a love song/ballad. If you're a TSIO its the female side.

I don't mind JJ's version of ESTWB but i prefer Dave's inflections on the words MUCH better. Arnel's version is a copy JJ's inflections so that'll come last (being the least original). Tommy Shaw's version is alright but I don't prefer it (then again not heard it in its full entirety). Frankie has said that Tommy's version is the best. Each his own.

Here's the Tommy Shaw version! I personally don't think he did that bad on it, but he's nowhere NEAR the other two vocally. JMHO.

Basically, the same here. The one main thing JJ has going against him is that Bickler had a higher range--and it was put to good use on this song. Along with Silver Girl, it's one of Bickler's highest vocals--and probably part of the reason he eventually lost his voice as the entire Tiger album was higher pitched, which didn't give him much of a break on the live shows. Jamison is a great singer, no doubt, but he was REALLY straining on this one. I don't think it is one of Jamison's better vocals either, screaming on the chorus notwithstanding.

Tommy Shaw has the range to sing the song, and does some cool stuff vocally (along with some nice guitar work by Frankie), but his version just sounds a bit too....mechanical, for lack of a better word. There's nothing "wrong" with it, but it just sounds a bit forced.

Yeah, Tommy Shaw's got the range for the song and I like his voice, but there's something unique in Bickler's voice that made that song.

Does anyone have the Jimi Jamison version, or a clip from it?

I have the Jamison version. Unfortunately, I don't have a clue as how to post it though. Sorry! It's also played at the end of the Stallone movie "Lock Up."

I'm in the minority because I prefer Jamison's vocals on it better than Bickler's. But I still love Dave on it too. I just prefer the smoothness to Jamison's vocals on it.

I had the mp3 of it, but no longer. However, I can get a 80% quality version of it. Check your PM's J/S and PianoMan1986. :D
