Just back from concert

Postby Eyeof » Mon Aug 10, 2009 2:07 pm

I know a little off topic but,

Just got back from Def Leppard, Survivor, Cheap Trick concert. First of all, I think it would be awesome for Surivovr to find a third slot in a show like this, much like Cheap Trick does.

But the thing I noticed the most about the show, and it's something us Survivor fans are all to familiar with.

Joe Elliot's vocals are SHOT! I mean, the dude might be done. At the least he needs a year or two off. I mean, it's bad. They did all the could to hide it...turning his mic down, reverb, echos, phil collin singing all the parts he can, but it was really bad.

Bret Michaels by the way, still brings it.

Joe sounded fantastic last year, but this year is a different animal apparently. I wish the man all the best.

I don't really feel bad for him, since he seems quite proud of his smoking habit. But yeah, it is amazing they can get away with touring at all... it's even more amazing this is the same guy who laid down the primal screams on Photograph, the wrenching vocal on Love Bites, and some underrated ballad singing in songs like Have You Ever Needed Someone and When Love and Hate Collide

They honestly should not be touring and charging people for tickets as poorly as his voice is...I mean guys, it's BAD. Very, very bad. I saw them two years ago with Journey and they were fine, but this is really, really, really bad. It's the worst vocals I've ever heard at a concert. He makes Paul Shortino sound like Steve Perry. BAD I say, bad!

It was funny, they were replaying that Download Fest on Palladia last night right after I posted here. I never bothered to watch the Lep footage from there before, but I did last night. It's very, very bad. I saw Lep in 05 and 07 and he had definitely lost a lot on his voice, but it was still decent. Now, it's so obvious they are using all the fancy delays and reverbs to try and hide his shortcomings... only problem is, when you echo each phrase on Hysteria four times in the verse, not only does it sound messy, but it gives me four chances to hear how tired and flat he sounds! It's a shame. Maybe if he quit smoking and lost some of that huge gut, he'd be able to get back into some kinda shape... he's not that old yet.

And that's the shame. He absolutely could change this if he wanted to work at it. Too bad he doesn't hang out with Phil and Viv more...they obviously take care of themselves. Get into shape, give up the vices, see a vocal coach and he could be a new man!

No kidding...Phil Collin looks like a machine...Elliot looks like he fell off the couch he's been sleeping on for the past two years, woke up and walked on stage....sounds like it as well. The man makes Eddie Money look in shape. I know we are kind of piling on here, but guys that theatre was jammed packed the other night with people who spent their hard earned money in the middle of a recession and they get some guy singing that - well - can't sing and looks like combing his hair would have been too much of a chore.

It just didn't sit well with me. You also have to feel for the rest of the band in a way, they sounded awesome, in good shape, everything...the guys is drumming his arse off with one damn arm for goodness sake and elliot can't go on a diet and quit smoking. Sorry, just didn't sit well with me.

I'm sure Andrew would be interested in Eye's remarks, given Joe's history of kindness and classiness to this site

It was Cheap Trick and Poision Silver...

Cheap Trick was great and Poision should be the headliner...much, much better....weave or not, Brett Michaels has taken very good care of himself...voice was crisp as ever...
