Yes, you can't really judge it, but I think its got potential. It's got a name : How Do You Feel About Love
axecrew wrote:Hmmmmm.....very uninspiring but what do I know. Guess we'll get a "true" picture of things once this "project"is complete. So it's working title is How do you feel about love..huh? Based on the clip, I'd guess the answer is very bleh. Marcel..your reponse begs the answer to this question..You think it has potential what? Because quite honestly it doesn't sound anything like a survivor song right now. I'm assuming sullivan wrote this along with mccauley. Where's that signature sound we all keep hearing about, or is it somewhere other than this clip?

I was waiting for the much-spoken-of signature sound as well but did not hear it on that clip.
Reach had it in spots.

So if you took a particular Reach tune and heard 40 secs, you should hear the signature sound, is that what you mean?

Yes, that's what I mean, DEPENDING on the song snippet.
And what in hell, by the way, do YOU mean with the post abouve suggesting they purposely avoided tantalizing fans with exciting Survivor music?
You lull the fans to sleep, wane interest, and lower expectations so the "project: explodes and sales soar?
Where's the Kerrrangggg and thumpthumpthump???

Sounds too much like the last album and the weaker FMS demos - very light, mellow, acoustic, and with a country-esque vibe. That's not the classic Survivor sound to me. I hope the rest of the album finds its way back to the moody, urgent feel of the band's earlier material. Something heavier in the vein of Caught in the Game or Too Hot to Sleep would be appropriate for Robin's vocals. I'm worried about how his voice will fit lighter material - he's a screecher not a crooner!
At the risk of being controversial, I think the main constituent of the Survivor sound walked out of the door in 1996...
Crossroads Moment, while lacking some of the bite and attitude that Frankie brought to the table, still sounds 90% like Vital Signs/WSC Survivor to me. There were some okay songs on Reach (mainly the JP co-writes!) but the attempts to write the same kind of anthems (Reach, Gimme the Word, Talkin' Bout Love), while good songs, don't really sound like any previous era of Survivor. Stick 'Behind the Music' or 'Friends We've Never Met' on, and within seconds the Survivor magic's there. To me, it's not Survivor without Jim AND Frankie, but if Reach is anything to go by, then Jim is responsible for at least 90% of the Survivor sound as pertains to songwriting.
Still, I'll be interested to see what Frankie comes up with. I'm sure it'll be a good AOR album, I'm just not expecting it to sound like Survivor.

A longer version with some vocals might just fit the puzzle.

I HAVE heard the song in its entirety with the lush keyboards, solid rock guitars and the great vocals by Robin, and backing vocals...HUGE song my friends...ALL SURVIVOR....what is in that clip is like 30% of the tune.....
Rock On Gents.....

Excellent Joe! Funny you mentioned Lush keyboards because there are minute parts of what I hear so far in the mini clip that kind of remind of the awesome Caught In The Balance (Toto). Albeit that being a totally different tune in context and having a faster tempo.
I don't think the keyboards are even on in the clip....but trust me, they are mighty on the full version....
