Showin' the love for Runway Lights!

Such an amazing, underrated track - so it deserves its own topic on the Survivor board! One of my favourite songs from Premonition. Did the band ever perform it live? For some reason it reminds me of I See You in Everyone - similar pace maybe?

Oddly, I only had Premonition on cassette for years, and they changed the running order of the songs (presumably to fit them on the tape). On that version, Heart's a Lonely Hunter is the last track on side A, and Runway Lights is the last track on side B (the album closer). It threw me when I finally got the album on CD and found them swapped! I'm not sure which running order I prefer. I guess Heart's a Lonely Hunter ends the album on the same moody, epic note that Santa Ana Winds ends Caught in the Game on.

Oh, and while we're on the subject of Premonition - can I just say how amazing Dave is on Poor Man's Son. From the end of the first chorus onwards, he absolutely rips it up! If only he could still belt the songs out like that nowadays. His voice seemed much weaker from the 1993 reunion onwards - softer, more mellow (maybe due to the vocal chord problems during CITG?). On some of the boots he seems to slur his way through the songs, whereas on the early studio albums he has grit and power and huge range. I love it when he gets that snarl in his voice, like in the middle-eight of Nothing Can Shake Me - "Raving like a - MAD MAN!".

Anyway, yeah, Runway Lights - love it! :-)

- Danny.

Classic song, classic album. Poor Man's Son is definitely one of my favorite Survivor tracks. So gritty and street-tough. Dave's vocals hit you hard and Frankie's guitar snarls.

Premonition is a great effort by Frankie, JP and the rest of the guys. I always thought that "Light of A Thousand Smiles" would be a great way to open a show. The intro is killer!

You're right - it would be a hell of an opener. Haunting piano, power chords into a great groove.
