Rhythm of the City vs Too Hot Too Sleep (individual songs)

Postby MarcelJordan » Fri Dec 10, 2010 1:02 pm

I know usually a Title Track is supposed to be one of the highlights of any album, but I think ROTC beats THTS hands down. ROTC is also my fav rocker in the album.

What do you think?

PS. Since nothing else is happening....

Well, between the two songs, I prefer THTS. But I also love ROTC. Their both great rockers!

I actually never cared much for Rhythm Of The City. To be honest, I think it's the only song on THTS that I skip. So obviously my vote goes to "Too Hot To Sleep," though even that isn't among the absolute best on the album.

I think a lot of times bands will name an album after a track because the track has a title that, for one reason or another, just works well as an album title. It's not necessarily because they consider the song to be the best on the album.

For example, "When Seconds Count," was never really a hit song, but it works well as an album title, particularly with a band name like "Survivor." "Is This Love" was a much bigger hit, but it would totally suck as an album name (personally, I think "When Seconds Count" is a much better song than "Is This Love", but it was never marketed to be a hit.)

"Too Hot To Sleep" is a good, solid album name. It has a bit of sex appeal, it sounds a bit edgy, etc. "Burning Bridges" might have been a more appropo name, though, since the album apparently marked the end of Survivor for the next 20 years. But I doubt that would be a word association they (or their record label) would want.

Interesting thoughts. Thanks.

THTS is a really cool song...makes me want a cold beer and a hot night everytime I hear it!

I told you Red, the blog was FS being really mad about getting left out of the 'when rock was king' video!

I never cared for either for the longest time. One day, the mood hit when Too Hot to Sleep was on, and the song finally clicked. Just a really cool song, as has been said elsewhere. Rhythm of the City still hasn't found a home, and may never at this rate.
