Question about "Nevertheless"

Postby DavidWT » Thu Dec 16, 2010 3:20 am

Back on the old Survivormusic.com board, I had commented that I slightly preferred the demo version of "Nevertheless", which can be found on the FMS demos album, over the official version that's found on "Reach." Frankie basically laughed at me for saying this, and commented that the version on Reach IS the demo version.
Now, am I just nuts, or does anyone else hear that the two version are different? I know they're very similar, but to my ears, it seems pretty clear that they're not the same version. And does anyone else have any preference between the two? (assuming that they are two different versions.)

I also prefer the demo of Nevertheless that is heard on the FMS bootleg.

And your right, they are two different recordings.

By the way Fire Makes Steel was made for Bickler. Plain and Simple. Hate the JJ version. Besides the guitar the song has no balls whatsoever. I didn't mind Robin's version in concert, but clearly this is Dave's song all the way. It's a damn shame the only Dave version out there has blank spot in the middle, that really sucks.

Ok, glad to know I wasn't just remembering things incorrectly when I thought they were different.

Slander-- I totally agree with you about FMS being a Bickler song. It was definitely written for his voice/style, and while I don't mind Jimi's version as much as you do, it did seem a bit jarring when I first heard it after getting used to Bickler's version.

On a somewhat related topic, does anyone know for sure when "Burning Bridges" was written? That song sounds so much like it could have been written for Bickler. Jimi does a great job with it, and I have no problem whatsoever with him singing it, but it just sounds like a Bickler tune.

Also on a related topic-- I wish Bickler had sung "Talking 'Bout Love." I think he would have rocked it. It's not a Jimi song, and while Frankie does fine with it, I think Bickler would have done better.

I prefer the Reach versions of both Nevertheless and Fire Makes Steel. FMS is Jamo's best voc on the album.

I think that Jimi sounds great on FMS. But I do slightly prefer the Dave version of the song.

I like the original demo version of Nevertheless better than the version that wound up on Reach.

I agree that Dave would have sounded great on Talkin Bout Love, but I do like Frankie on it too.

Even though I have thought that Dave sounds great on Burning Bridges when he's sung it live, I have always thought that it was classic Jimi Jamison vocals on the THTS version. I think you can really hear great passion in Jimi's voice on it! I would probably say that Jimi's vocals on Burning Bridges ranks in my top 10 favorite songs of all time for Jimi's vocals.

Frankie really wanted JJ to do Talkin' Bout Love but JJ it seems to have bitterly refused. FS said sonically it would have been awesome (something to that effect.
