Finally got the first two Pride Of Lions CDs

I finally got "Pride Of Lions" and "Destiny Stone." Yeah, I know I'm several years late. lol.

One question-- Why are the song names totally screwed up on both Amazon AND iTunes? I downloaded the album from iTunes, and I see titles like, "Henry The 8th I am," and "Theme From The Monkees", "Now I'm A Believer", etc. I got nervous and thought I downloaded the wrong albums. Turns out that I didn't, but I had to manually correct all the titles.

Anyway, my thoughts on the albums so far-- Some really good stuff, some incredibly cheesy stuff, and some cheesy-but-good stuff. I don't think these two albums compare so favorably to "Crossroads Moment," but maybe I just need to get used to them.

The firsts album is dynamite. Especially the songs left over from Survivor days. Destiny Stone is a miss. Roaring of Dreams is strong. Great songs, great hooks. Sometimes I wish JP knew when to stop. The cheese factor gets old! Sometimes I wish JP would be reigned in just a bit.

I finally listened to ALL of the first album on my way to work this morning. I still think it's a mixed bag. Some good songs, but qute a few that I found myself tempted to skip. Something about the singer's voice just doesn't work for me. At times he sounds great, but at other times, I don't know, it's a bit too over-the-top or something.

I plan to listen to all of Destiny Stone on my way home.

Oddly, I've heard from other people that Roaring Of Dreams is the worst, which is why I didn't get it, but I listened to some clips from it on YouTube the other night, and I have to say I really like what I heard. "Heaven On Earth" could be my favorit POL song so far.

Destiny Stone is my least favorite. Songs just don't have the hooks. As far as Toby. He is an amazing talent, but both he and Jim don't seem to know when to quit. At times it's a bit over the top bordering on comical. It's all a little too theatrical and Meat Loafish at times. Although I do like Meat Loaf!

I wouldn't blame Toby for the theatrical parts. He's just singing what he is told to sing. His voice works well for that type of material, but it's the main reason I'm only lukewarm to the Pride of Lions cds. Peterik is still a good writer as Crossroads Moment proved, but I just don't care for theatrical stuff and it doesn't matter who is singing.

RoD is definitely my least favorite PoL offering so far. Heaven on Earth has the most killer intro and then it just totally loses me at the verse. The chorus gets better and the song builds to a nice crescendo, but after that kickass, upbeat guitar riff intro, the staccato guitar riff and Peterik's vocals just kinda kill it for me. That song shoulda soared high.

For me, the juxtaposition of the verse/chorus works well. The staccato verse just makes the chorus seem to soar that much higher.

One thing I'm noticing about Destiny Stone is that I like the vocals a lot better than on POL. It seems Toby found a way to make it work better, though I can't really say what's different.
Also, the songwriting on DS is a lot more interesting. It's more complex, yet still instantly catchy. The songs on POL, generally, feel a bit simpler and more cliche to me.
