Favorite song from the FMS demos?

Postby DavidWT » Tue Dec 21, 2010 3:24 am

Just to take a break from the "Frankie's Blog" thread, what are your favorite songs from the FMS demos?
Actually, I'm not sure if all of them contain the same songs. My CD has the following:

1. Someone Else's Sleepless Nights
2. One Step Ahead Of A Flame
3. No Boundary
4. Strip For Me
5. Innocense Of Love
6. That's What It Feels Like To Fall In Love
7. Rebel Girl
8. Everything Turns On You
9. Give It Up
10. Feel The Memories
11. Fire Makes Steel
12. Nevertheless
13. Jessica
14. The Love We Never Made
15. Seconds Away
16. Lies

Some of my favorites in no particular order.....

"Strip For Me" I love Frankie's guitar playing on it.
"Someone Else's Sleepless Night"
"Innocence Of Love" Possibly Dave's best lead vocals on a ballad.
"Give It Up" great Rocker.
"Jessica" great Rocker.
"The Love We Never Made" type of song that could have been on Vital Signs.
"Fire Makes Steel" Probably the best song from the whole FMS sessions. Has everything you could want in a Survivor song!

Really, their all great songs. I just wish that they would have Rocked more overall.

I never really liked "Strip For Me." But I really like "Someone Else's Sleepless Night." And although they're not exactly rockers, I think "No Boundary" and "One Step Ahead Of The Flame" are quite good, too.
"Jessica" and "Give It Up" are both very good, catchy rockers.

I think the weaker songs are the ones that get a bit too sappy, like "That's What It Feels Like To Fall In Love" and "Innocense Of Love." But I do like "Everything Turns On You," in spite of its sappiness.

By the way, is "Lies" actually a Survivor song? It sounds nothing like them, but it was included on the disc I got.

No. If memory serves, it was for Frankie Sullivan's blues cd. I believe it was played live by Survivor some in the late 90s however when there was a tremendous amount of unreleased material being aired.

There are several versions of that cd floating around. One of them doesn't have One Step Ahead of the Flames and Strip for Me. Another one has an acoustic live version of Rebel Girl for a Chicago radio station. One of them has gaps in Fire Makes Steel--the other one doesn't, etc.
