Eye Of The Tiger is one of the best albums of all time!!

I've been sitting here listening to this album tonight, and I forgot just how good it is. This album reminds me of growing up in Canada, skating rinks, summer nights camping, roller skating, drive-in theater, 1st kisses. Good times! They don't make albums like this anymore...

No disagreements here!

Ive been playing the album since July 1982 and can never tire of it. I still have the actually cassette tape (as my avatar). Ive played that tape over 2000 times I think.

Underrated exquisite enticing Rock. 8)

I also love how Fergie Fredricksson's back ground vocals give the added harmony, making it wonderfully urgent! (I know most people wouldn't care but I like this sort of thing, BG vocals a very integral staple for Survivor imo).

Very underrated album. Tiger overshadows the other tracks. Some classics are on that gem. Silver Gilr? My god, what guitar, and what a vocal by Dave! I think the weakest song on the album may be American Heartbeat. It really goes nowhere, even though it peaked at 17 on billboard. I think they should have gone with "Ever Since The World Began" as the second single.

Can I say that I think CITG is just as good? Infact, Im beginning to think CITG is Survivor's best! I love the moody edge to CITG. EOTT is just a bit more fun perhaps.

Silver Girl? I think Frankie's guitar work can stand neck and neck with any of the top guitarists that anyone can name. Super stuff!

CITG is my second favorite Survivor album, only slightly behind THTS. EOTT is my third favorite.

Sullivan is an extremely underrated guitarist. He's my second favorite guitarist, only behind Neal Schon. And I actually like Sullivan's riff and rhythm playing a little better than Schon's.

Now if you could get some on this board to understand that without Sullivan's guitar genius, there is no Survivor. It's essential to the SIGNATURE Survivor sound.

All the Sullivan in the WORLD, will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER make McSurvivor anything even close to SURVIVOR. Sullivan is no more essential than JP or Dave for that matter...not to me...even with JJ at least it sounded like some style of Survivor...McAuley should be arrested and forced to register in his community for what he has done to these Survivor songs!

What IS Survivor's signature sound, though? Because when I listen to their first three albums, I hear something very different than what I hear on VS, WSC and even THTS. The sound changed quite a bit over the years. Songs like "The Search Is Over", "Popular Girl" and "Keep It Right Here" would have sounded totally out of place on "Premonition," for example.

"Crossroads Moment," even without Sullivan, does quite a good job of capturing the sound of VS and WSC. A lot of the songs actually sound like they could be outtakes from those two albums. So do you not consider VS and WSC to have the signature Survivor sound?

"Reach," on the other hand, has Sullivan, and I don't think it really captures anything that I would call a "signature" Survivor sound (the title track does pretty well, and so does "Fire Makes Steel," but I don't see how "Home" or "Rhythm Of My Heart" or "Don't Give up" or "Nevertheless", etc, really capture the essence of what Survivor was.)

I'm not trying to make another "Sullivan sucks!" post, I'm just trying to understand what you consider to be Survivor's signature sound.

Really? I have CM and think it sounds nothing like WSC or VS.

Ok, we can agree to disagree on that.

But to go back to the question of their signature sound, do you think "Premonition" sounds like "Vital Signs"? Does the "Caught In The Game" album sound like the "When Seconds Count" album? Do any of those albums sound like the "Reach" album?

I remember Frankie saying that each Survivor album was not meant to sound the same. They do try different things.

Yes, he felt the same about Tiger and Burning Heart. Many called Burning Heart, Tiger Part I I. Far from it.

I think it sounds like Jamison and Peterik, which is 2/3 of the Survivor sound. Some songs (She's Nothing to Me, for example) are too far out in left field, but there are a fair amount of songs on that album that if you put FS writing his own guitar parts that would fit rather well on a Survivor album. Maybe they won't directly fit on VS or WSC or whatever, but generally speaking, no two Survivor albums sounded the same anyway...and some of CM is VERY close to Survivor. It's just missing the signature Frankie Sullivan guitar parts.

btw, not to deviate too much from the subject at hand, but are there any live recordings of Dave Bickler doing Burning Heart? I've never heard any, but that song has to have been performed at some point during his 2nd tenure with the band, right??

Signature Survivor doesn't get any better to me than intro to OCEANS, CITG, THE One That Really Matters, I Can't Hold Back, Light of A Thousand Smiles, As Soon As Love Find Me. Sullivan written all over it!
