JJ's "Taste Of Love"

Postby DavidWT » Wed Dec 07, 2011 2:30 am

I was just listening to JJ's song "Taste Of Love" the other day for the first time in many years. Is it just me, or does anyone else think he was trying to channel Steven Tyler in that song? Maybe it's not so much the way he sings it, but the way the song is written, I could very easily picture Tyler performing it.

I really like Jimi's WLC cd. I don't care for the title . I think it would have been cooler to use the name Taste Of Love for the cd title. He rocks hard on that tune. That whole cd had a Memphis flavor to it. I am not sure who else I could imagine singing it . I wish Rock Candy would purchase that cd and put some bonus tracks as well as I'm Always Here on it ! He had a powerful voice back then ..

Not sure this is JJ's best effort. The songwriting isn't very strong. Having said that he made up for it with Empires although I could have done without the live tracks.

Empires was great ! I wish he would have put some of his demo tracks in there and pulled a few songs out. His voice no doubt was awesome on a few of them tracks. Cry Tough , Run From The Thunder , First Day Of Love And Dream Too Far rock. It would be awesome if he could have had a follow up to it. Hopefully he can get his voice back to the heights of Empires with Frankie on a new full blown Survivor cd.

I've been checking youtube.com and I am amazed how many shows and different songs he has done. Jimi is a pretty big star now out of the US . I am not so sure going back to an 8 song set list with Survivor is going to work for him anymore. I am anxious to see ..

I think the album suffers from some lackluster production, and the songwriting is pretty hit or miss, but even when it hits, it pales next to when Survivor hits, and since people were naturally going to compare it to Survivor, that didn't help. But still, it's fun to listen to occasionally when I get tired of JJ's other stuff.
"Empires" is easily better. Anyone else think it's an odd coincidence that on "Empires", one of the songs has "Reach" in the chorus? (I forget the title of the song now... gotta go back and listen to that album again!) I just remember that the way the word is sung, it's kind of similar to how it would be sung on Survivor's "Reach."

I just re-listened to all of both "Empires" and "When Love Comes Down," and you know, I think I may have under-rated "When Love Comes Down". For whatever reason, whenever I think of that album, I tend to remember the couple of songs that I don't like much, but there's really quite a few GOOD songs on it. As of this morning, I found that I actually kind of like WLCD better than Empires, overall. (yeah, I know I'm in the minority on that.)

gotta agree on the BAYWATCH song ! :-)

It's not a bad song.......but i think it shouldn't be on a JAMISON cd.....plus the version should'ev been heavier.....harder......it was too soft and should not have been put on his cd.

Yeah, I don't mind the idea of a duet, but her voice just didn't work well for that song with his voice. The song, otherwise, isn't bad.

By the way, did anyone actually buy "When Love Comes Down"? The only reason I have the songs from it is because I bought the "Jimi Jamison / Survivor Collection", Vols. 1 & 2. I don't think I ever saw "When Loves Comes Down" in any store, and those were the days before I had internet access, so I couldn't even get it from Amazon or something.

It's funny...i remember that coming out and the guy at my local 'record' store telling me not to bother that it 'sucked' and that JP was supposed to have something out soon after and it would be great...

Strange I can remember that...

I bought "When Love Comes Down" when it was first released.

I like "Empires" and "Crossroads Moment" better. But it's not a bad album.

I am not aware of any remake of "Oceans?"

Jamison did a remake of "I'm Always Here" on the "Empires" CD. And it's not as good as the original.

He also recorded the song "Empires" which was originally written to be a Survivor song. And a female vocalist does a duet on it with him.

FS has stated that the song "Empires" is an early "Oceans" throwaway...that is what he is talking about...
