The Albums - Survivor

Postby Eyeof » Tue Apr 03, 2012 4:32 am

Okay, I had a little road trip this past weekend and decided to 'spin' (although does that happen digitally) each of the Survivor albums in order and see what I thought about them all these years later...I thought rather than opine about what we don't have, we can celebrate - together - what we do, which is a wonder past catolog.

So let's do 'Survivor' first...

I love the raw sound of this album and the way it's still set in a '70's' harmonic vibe...

To me "Nothing Can Shake Me" is not only the most underrated Survivor track, but the most underated song in the HISTORY of rock music. SIA is a great kick off song to launch the band and album. I love the harmony on this album, and really only find "Freelance" to be the only filler on the album. I love the 70's groove feel to some songs, like "The Whole Town's Talking."

It's a pity that the hit "Rockin Into the Night" was left off. It is so typical to what always happens with this band.

Also, Rebel Girl (Not on original album) makes my version and even better listen.

Great Listen and a wonderful insight to the beginnings of the band.

What do you think?

1."Somewhere in America" (Peterik) 5:13
2."Can't Getcha Offa My Mind"
3."Let It Be Now" (Peterik, Sullivan)
4."As Soon As Love Finds Me" (Johnson, Peterik, Smith, Sullivan) 2:52
5."Youngblood" (Johnson, Peterik, Sullivan) 3:31
6."Love Has Got Me" (Peterik) 3:38
7."Whole Town's Talkin'" (Johnson, Peterik, Smith, Sullivan) 3:32
8."20/20" (Johnson, Peterik, Smith, Sullivan) 3:23
9."Freelance" (Johnson, Peterik, Sullivan) 3:37
10."Nothing Can Shake Me (From Your Love)" (Peterik) 4:09
11."Whatever It Takes" (Johnson, Peterik, Smith, Sullivan) 3:46

I really enjoy this record. It's a strong effort! Dave is great on it. I'm not crazy about JP's vocals, but I'm nit picking here. I would love to hear the story about the making of the album.

Slander...did you download and listen to the 1993 LaGrange boot yet?

You are in for a Dave Bickler treat there!

I never really got into this album much. It's not that it's "bad," it's just that I tend to hear it and forget it. I lacks the hooks or something that the later albums had.

It's not as catchy as the others and a little bit more wild if i can say that......the other albums had a direction....a sound.....this one is a little bit of everything......but i'm not taking anything away from this great cd.

I agree...some more 'bland' moments...I don't mean that bad...it is part of that 70's feel actually....but "Nothing Can Shake Me" is a Killer, Killer, Killer track....
