Is JJ a good guitarist?

I've seen several publicity shots of him posing with a guitar, but as far as I know, he never played guitar on any of the albums that he's recorded. Does anyone know if he's any good at it? And if he is, why doesn't he ever play on the albums?

If I had to guess, it's Frontiers Records's doing. Same thing with the Kimball/Jamison video. They wanted to make it look like they did more than just sing. Same thing here....along with the paparazzi-looking shot.

I read years ago that Jimi says that he can play guitar. But he said at the time that it was just well enough to be able to help him write songs, and not much else.

If you have the Kimball/Jamison CD with the bonus disc with the interviews and song videos, you can see some video where Jimi is really playing an acoustic guitar. There are the two song videos where he is pretending to play the electric guitar in the two songs. That's obviously not really him playing on the CD. But he sounds decent on the acoustic playing that he's really doing. He also seems to be fairly good on piano.

I'm sure that he's not good enough to be a lead guitarist on any album. But he probably could play some additional guitar on songs or in concert. Kind of like Steve Augeri was and is able to do with Journey or now on his own.
