SURVIVOR At Sweden Rock Festival 2013

Postby bomes » Fri Dec 28, 2012 3:41 am

This is really a surprise...

http://www.swedenrock.com/index.cfm?pg=1&lg=2

"Survivor to Sweden Rock 2013. Only show in Scandinavia!

For the first time ever in Scandinavia!

The year was 1982, the movie "Rocky III" and the theme song "Eye of the tiger". This one song guaranteed Chcago's Survivor their place in rock history forever. But it didn't end there. Instead Survivor kept producing hit after hit, including "I can't hold back", "High on you", "The search is over" and not least "Burning heart", the theme from - that's right - "Rocky IV" (1985). They are, in short, one of the biggest AOR bands ever, an the time has finally come for the first SRF appearance of their long career. Original guitarist Frankie Sullivan is in charge as always, and by his side we once again find classic, and still amazing Survivor vocalist Jimi Jamison."

This will never happen because Frankie will be too busy working on the new album...man I can't even type that and keep a straight face.

Frankie's in charge of what, booking airfare? Must be a nice offer for them to fly from the states there for $15K USD or whatever they get for their shows in the US.

They did not show up at Rock The Nations Festival last summer, so I' m curious if they do this time.
Survivor is no reason for me to go to Sweden Rock !!!!

Last Jimi Jamison CD is GREAT anyway!!!!!

The year was 1982. Good

Now the bad news....the year is 2013. No hits, since...er...well...since? Ever since the world began (just feels like that).

They did "hit" the road sort of since 1982.

MJ I miss our discussions. Hell, I miss how everyone used to pile on me because I tried to stay positive about the group. Now there is no emotion. Nada, Nit. Damn shame.

Yeah, you fought Tooth and Nail and defended FS, also critized (constructively), and tried to believe in them. I on the other hand was quietly patiently waiting, waiting, waiting, defending (little bit here and there), waiting then....cancelled the Singapore show!!!! , waiting,waiting....you get the picture. Im tired exhausted and it's over for me.

MJ

Edit: Sorry folks for hijacking this thread. Let's see IF the band does NOT cancel this upcoming show...wait...I wouldn't care to find out. What am I saying?

As you know I'm a huge fan but it's hard to stay loyal when your loyalty is taken for granted. I get it Survivor-you don't need me anymore. Moving on.

Well, I hate to disagree, but this might actually (and finally) be a good year for Survivor fans, with their first albeit short tour of Europe, and scheduled to play with rock legends on same stage.
Again, hate to disappoint you, but you can't deny this is huge news compared to last 5 years and especially a great news for european fans. This could bring up to something good

Maybe they'll release a new Greatest Hits album!! They could put a picture of a tiger on the front, and include songs like "Eye Of The Tiger," "High On You" and "The Search Is Over". Woohoo!!!! That's something to get excited about!

It's over, and it's been over since the late 80s. Even "Reach" feels more like an epilogue to their career than a legitimate Survivor album.

Sorry again, but at least to me, playing a gig with Journey or Whitesnake isn't properly what I call an epilogue to a career

For me, their career was from the late 70s to the late 80s. IF they had actually released the Fire Makes Steel demos as an album in the early-mid 90s, maybe they could have prolonged things a bit, but I don't know... "Too Hot To Sleep" wasn't such a success (I loved it, but it didn't sell well compared to earlier albuims.) Seems like people were already losing interest by then.
And then "Reach" came out in, what, 2006? (can't remember exactly.) It wasn't even released in stores. To go from having a slew of top 40 hits to releasing an album that can't even garner enough interest to get a normal release is a definite sign that things have pretty much ended.
Yeah, the current gig is nice for them, but aside from that, it seems that they're mostly playing pretty low-key places (like street fairs or whatever), and even those appearances are getting rarer. Again, that's a sign that things have ended, when a band goes from having #1 hits on the radio to playing street fairs.

Of course, I'd be happy to be proven wrong. I'd be happy if they get such a great reception at this Sweden gig that it prompts them to start recording music and touring properly again, and releasing top 40 hits, etc, etc. I just don't see it happening. And until I actually have a new album in my hands, I won't believe that one is being worked on, unfortunately.

As you said, if they DO show up at the Sweden Festival, and they DO good...well, people will notice! The festival is exposing them to a huge crowd of hardcore music lovers, which still exist in Europe. This is a waaaayyyyyy younger audience than what you can have in the USA for those types of bands.
C'mon guys, people at the Sweden Fest know far better than you the reasons to book Survivor in the first place
