Saw Survivor Tonight

Postby Journey/Survivor » Sat Aug 16, 2014 2:45 pm

I just got home from seeing Survivor at the Hard Rock Rocksino in Cleveland.

I can not remember the exact order that they played the songs in, but these are the songs that they played tonight...
Rebel Girl
Rockin' Into The Night
Poor Man's Son
Take You On a Saturday
Eye Of The Tiger
Feels Like Love
I Can't Hold Back
High On You
The Search Is Over
Broken Promises
It's The Singer Not The Song
Burning Heart

As always, Sullivan played a long guitar solo, and played extra solos in songs. The keyboardist played a keyboard solo.

Rockin' Into The Night was probably about 8 minutes long because of all of the added soloing by Sullivan.

Sullivan must have wasted about 15 minutes sharing his philosophy with the crowd.

If he had just talked less they could have played at least 2 more songs.

Sullivan's son did a good job on drums. But I still missed Droubay, and would prefer him to still be in the band.

Jimi and Dave sounded great considering their ages.

It was great seeing/hearing Frankie, Jimi and Dave. But it's still not the same without Peterik, Droubay and Ellis.

Is Droubay out in the sense of having quit the band?

The thing is that much of what he says is stuff about faith, knowing what's in your heart, doing the right thing, etc, etc. Which is generally good advice. The problem is that he doesn't appear to live his life that way. He's too busy screwing over people he works with, especially former band members, and suing the shit out of people.

I once saw where he was asked if he was stranded on a deserted island, what would he most want with him on the island. One of his answers was the bible. That's great! Try living your life based on the bible instead of screwing over people and always being out for every last dollar that you can get.

The guy has a world of talent. Put it to good use instead of playing a small handful of shows each year and suing everyone.

The guy has got to be filthy stinking rich beyond words.

Eye Of The Tiger
Burning Heart
The Search Is Over
High On You
Is This Love
I Can't Hold Back
American Heartbeat
Poor Man's Son
Rockin' Into The Night

Those songs must have made him million and millions of dollars over the years, and will continue to except maybe American Heartbeat and Poor Man's Son which don't really get air play anymore.

And then there are other smaller hits like...

How Much Love
First Night
Summer Nights
Didn't Know It was Love
Caught In The Game
Across The Miles
Man Against The World
Ever Since The World Began
Don't Say No Tonight

Those would have made him some money at one time.

You've got way more than enough money, Frankie. Stop worrying about getting every penny out of a record company, and put out a new album.

Somebody on FB attending a previous gig said that Marc is recovering from an injury. No source provided, but I am confident this is not permanent..it would be nonsense

I hope that they're right!

Marc is a big part of the Survivor sound. But so is Stephan. I wish he was still in the band.

I was there too. I should've thought to look you up before the show. I enjoyed the show for what it was. The solos and blabbering were a bit annoying given the brisk 90 minute set, but it was a fun cheap night ($25 to sit in the 5th row, dead center - I'll take it). I thought Dave sounded a lot better than Jimi. Jimi oozes cool on the stage, but he's just a bit fried at this point. The Search Is Over was particularly rough to my ears.

I left the show realizing how many great songs the band has. There must be at least 25 more songs I'd like to hear live.

Thank you guys both for reporting on the gig.

Yes, I've actually never been a true 'fan' of "TSIO", and youtube videos always proved me it's not a born live number. As a ballad I would take "I'm not that man anymore", "Man against the world" "Ever since the world began" or even "Across the miles" anytime! But hey, it's a hit so who am I..

Yeah, I should have thought to PM you before the show too.

Jimi was a little rough on TSIO. I thought both singers got better as the show went on.

I would like to go to the Foreigner show at the Rocksino, but I'm guessing the tickets will be a lot more expensive for that show, and I have to watch my money. I wouldn't have minded seeing Buddy Guy who was there the night after Survivor. But again, I couldn't really afford to go.

I think it's good not to take for granted that we are able to witness 2 of the best singers in the world on stage together, singing some of our favorites songs of our life.
Still can't get over the drummer, though...

In many ways Frankie's guitar playing is my favorite thing about Survivor concerts. But at the show that I saw last week, the highlight for me was seeing/hearing Jimi and Dave on stage together. It was my favorite Survivor show that I've been to in a number of years.

Now, just bring back Jim, Marc and Stephan and it will feel like the 1980's again. :D
