If they had recorded a new album?

Postby Journey/Survivor » Tue Sep 23, 2014 8:30 am

If Survivor had recorded a new album with both Jimi and Dave on lead vocals, how do you think that it would have been structured? Would Jimi sing the lead vocals by himself on half of the songs, and Dave sing the lead vocals by himself on the other half of the songs? Or do you think it would have been all duets? Or a mixture of those scenarios?

I myself was hoping for the latter, with Jimi singing some by himself, and Dave singing some by himself, and them doing a few duets together.

How do you think it would have worked? And how would you have liked it to be done?

If they had of recorded anything, sadly I think it would be buried in FS's computer with the other five 'albums' we'll never hear...ie. 'Re-Entry'...

It's sad...

I mean, do you realize how many shows they did with both guys, that there are sound and video board recordings that could be made into a descent live concert video? We have the misfortune of being a big fan of a band, with a gatekeeper that refuses to give us anything.

The funny thing is, in that recent interview on the Survivor website, Frankie insists that he's the one who wanted to release new stuff, and basically implies that the other guys couldn't get it together. Who knows what's actually true at this point.

I read that too, but I don't believe him for a moment.

In a very recent interview (August 2014), FS mentions that they were not in the recording mode yet, but only focusing on playing live.
So, that's all I need to know.

Who is the "other guys"? Could only be referring to Jimi or Dave, as everyone else really has no imput. Jimi seemed pretty active putting out cds outside of Survivor so something tells me he'd like to put out Survivor cds also. And I doubt Dave as this has been an issue long before Dave rejoined the group. Actually this was an issue whether Dave or Jimi were in the band...and then there was Robin also.

Right. As usual, Frankie was full of shit when he said that about waiting on the other guys. It's Frankie who has no intentions of recording a new album. He's all about the money, and a new album wouldn't pay as much as he wants. People who are in to doing albums for creativity's sake, like Neal Schon, they are willing to take a financial loss on albums if necessary.

Frankie has more money than God, but he's still out for every last buck.

Just think of the money that he's made off of "Eye Of The Tiger" "Burning Heart" "The Search Is Over" "High On You" "Is This Love" and "I Can't Hold Back" alone !?!?

I totally disagree. FS is obviously questioning the 'impact' of new releases. Journey is another band another story: they know they could still pull at least 50-70000 copies even with a CD made out of a-capella tunes or toilet FX. Survivor is another story, much different.
As Frankie recently stated in the interview with Slander, you produce a CD with some european label and then what happens to this release? It is obvious that Reach did not make any dent and that even FS doesn't have a clue of the (very low I guess) sales figure. To sum it up, they made a CD of new tunes that disappeard in a couple of month

I know that Survivor would NOT sell a lot of copies of a new album. But my point about musicians like Neal Schon, is that he and others have literally made albums that they knew they would probably lose money on. But as creative artists that want new material to be heard, and that don't want to be nothing more than a touring jukebox, they still make albums. I guarantee that Neal Schon is NOT making big bucks off of his solo albums. But as a creative artist he knows that it's about more than just money.

Sullivan does not want to record a new album because he wont make a lot of money off of it. Either he has nothing left as a creative artist, or he's all about the money.

I had to remove my original post from this post because it keeps telling me some crap about not being allowed to embed more than three quotes.

The thing is : Even if Neil Schon seems to have some Frankie Ego problems , he is NOT that bad and does other solo and band projects when he feels like showing off instead of murdering the JOURNEY franchise if I can say.......he wont go on stage stealing the show to his singers.......SULLIVAN should do solo records and get his shit together when he's with SURVIVOR instead of pissing off everyone around him........

as far as a new CD you know my opinion......whatever happens it will never be SURVIVOR again cause you don't replace JJ and PETERIK and DROUBAY........no fucking way !.........cause with Peterik and JJ out you just lost THE SINGER '' AND '' THE SONG......and DROUBAY rules.
