Dave Bickler: Rough mix of 'Hope'

I really like the song. It is not pure Survivor, but its grows and I hope, he will finalize his works after these years and publish the record. He might even top Tom Keifer's working procedures . I am eager to buy it. Seems to be a good piece of classic rock and it is long overdue to hear him singing again.

Are you guys tone deaf, or just hearing something I'm not hearing?? He is EXTREMELY pitchy in the song and is flat all over the place! I couldn't listen past the 2:00 mark. I love Dave's voice (during his Survivor days), but to me... this sounds horrible. What the heck happened?

There's nothing wrong with throwing demos out there, but if you're a singer of his caliber you should make sure you're singing in key. To me though, it's more than just the pitch issue. The song just doesn't do anything for me. Glad you guys like it though.

If we hated every song sung with a terrible vocal performance, we'd hate every Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, etc., song. Too many to name. The song is still decent, though. I'd still like to see the tempo brought up. Think that would do wonders for it.

Definitely sounds like a demo. I would say if this is the only indication of his upcoming album, then I probably wouldn't purchase it. It's one thing if this is 1995, and Dave wants to experiment with the detuned type of "grunge" sound that many of the 80's artists attempted to do during the decade. But, seeing as how the late 2000's seemed more "friendly" to the AOR sound, Dave should be going for a more classic sounding album. Especially, since we haven't heard anything from him in awhile.

As my avatar name indicates that I am not overly opposed to artists, who take their time to finish a record, but the solo album is in the mix now for nearly two years. Maybe some inspiration for the album title is needed. I have a few proposals borrowed from rock music history:

It is pretty ridiculous how long it's taking for him to release the album. He's been saying coming soon for more than two years. It might be more like 4 or 5 years now? If he's not careful, he'll cross-over into Frankie Sullivan and Steve Perry territory, where you promise an album that either takes 15 years to release, or never gets released at all.

I really hope that Dave does release his solo album. For two reasons. One is because I love his singing. The other is because we know damn well that Frankie is incapable of releasing a new album anymore, and Dave's album could be the closest that we come to a new Survivor album. You know, other than a Pride Of Lions CD from Peterik that is.

Can't believe that I opened the thread almost 4 years ago. I love the 'dave bickler new project' snippets that recently have been posted on youtube. I will buy the record and hope he will sell it signed. Thumbs up for Dark Licht!

He is in the final mix for some months now an he once twittered that the record is planned für a 2017 release. Hope he finds a label...

Not sure, but I think he mentioned a digital release once. My bet is he's gonna release it on his own
