Jimi Jamison - Behind the Music

Postby IngoK » Sat Mar 15, 2008 5:12 am

Received today the Rock the Bones Vol. 6 Sampler with Jimi's new Song (Andrew posted also a short clip on his site). What a great Track. It starts with the typical Jim Peterik melody and drifts into one of the greatest Tracks I ever heard from Jimi!

:D Jimi is back..!
I am so very happy Jimi & Jim are back together .. This is the sound and the voice we have been missing.. Jimi sounds revived and refreshed and much much better here than he ever sounded on Reach . He 110% still has it . I can't wait to hear the new cd.
It is quite amazing after sounding hardly nothing like he used from his prime on 2006 Reach.. In 2008 he sounds very very close to the way he sounded on Vital Signs over 24 years ago.. I really like the Pride Of Lions feel with that Survivor voice.
I love it... What a comeback on getting your voice strong again Jamo :D

The guys just finsihed a KILLER ballad (very subtle, not a power one) and are now at work on a big rocker...

As far as I know Jimi have been help by great AOR musicians for his new album including ex Survivor mate Bill Syniar on bass and Kelly Keagy on drums. I think it will be the album we have been waiting for... can't wait...

Great track. I think it sounds more like POL then Survivor. Looking forward to the record.

:D I think all the songs will be great .. I love Peterik's writing.. Those guys missed out on a lot of years . It is amazing how great Jimi sounds still. All us fans may miss the old sound and the over dubbed over the top production but that sounds dated in 2008..
I actually love the unique sound of Pride of Lions mixed in with the voice of Survivor.

Jimi is busier this year than he has been in many many years ..

That is a good thing. It sounds like POL but a bit more restrained. I have all three POL efforts and enjoy them a great deal but sometimes they can be just a bit over the top.

Survivor for Adults :D

What I like most on this Song is the second half. The Melody changes in a bridge, coming back to what was there before and followed by a wonderful duett between Jimi and the Guitar player (Mike Aquino?).

Wouldn`t call it new POL or new Survivor. It's Jimi Jamison who made a fantastic collaboration with Jim Peterik.

It's POL in style as that is how Jim has developed as a songwriter today. It's Survivor as that is his roots and how he used to write. It's the best of both worlds.
I've heard 8 tracks so far....there's some gold in there for fans.

Andrew, would you say it's a vast improvement over Reach?

I would not.
first impression is this doesn't sound as strong as anything on Reach.

Red I think it's hard to compare the two. Different styles. JP's stuff has always had a dramatic flare to me.

Andrew thanks for the info. I know Jim has a jazz album in the works but do you ever see him working on a MEAT LOAF style album? Almost an opera? Some of the POL stuff lends itself to that. I also read where Toby sang on the GENUINE project which is a rock opera.

Slander,Toby did song on the last Genius project and I was really impressed as the material is a lot heavier than POL but his voice suited it well.
Its a shame there isnt going to be any POL project this year as far as I am aware.

That is disappointing. Having said that, they have done 3 albums in 5 years! That's a lot of product. I still say the first POL is the best. The second was a little inconsistent I thought. I think if recall, JP had to crank out The Destiny's Stone in a hurry. Still a good effort though.

I have only heard rough mixes of most tracks and 2 final mixes and there is more to come. Some of the tracks I heard won't make the cut - and already and I can safely say that it kicks Reach's ass backwards.

Production - top notch (as all the POL albums are); performances beyond anything in recent memory and KILLER songs. One I just heard about has a VERY biting lyrical theme!!!!

I have Jim's Jazz record right here....must spin it...

As for a operatic or pomp record, I asked him about that and he kinda laughed...said it would be fun to do. But I don't think anytime soon...
