This is why I feel Hagar gets it, while so many others just don't...

[i] Sammy Hagar says that he has no problem with Sen. John McCain and the Republican Party using Van Halen's 1991 song "Right Now" in their race for the Presidency, according to roadrunnerrecords.com.

Although former bandmates Eddie and Alex Van Halen, who co-wrote the song with Hagar and Michael Anthony, have objected to the song's use by the G.O.P., Hagar issued a statement explaining why he supports its use, saying, "When I wrote the lyrics to 'Right Now', I intended them to inspire people to not sit around and wait for something they believed in but to go out and get it, to make a change however they needed to. Whether it was McCain who used the song or if Obama had chosen to use the song, with the current political climate, the lyrics still have the same meaning, and we all need to do something to make a difference, every action counts."

Hagar went on to say, "In fact, I still feel so strongly about this that I wrote a new song 'Cosmic Universal Fashion' with a young Iraqi musician in an attempt to motivate a new generation to the same affect. I am pleased to be associated with the lyrics to my original song and the new one in hopes that both will make people move to make a difference."

Thank you for posting this. Do any of you think Sullivan, Perry, or any other narcissistic has been could've been this eloquent?

Absolutely... Already had tons of respect for Sammy and this just upped him even more in my book

Not to mention Sammy probably realizes at least half the people that shelled out the big bucks for the last Van Hagar tour are card-carrying GOPers... lol.

Sammy has a right to have his songs used at whatever venue he likes. I like Sammy. Seen him many times. I doubt that card-carrying GOPers rule the day at a Hagar concert. Having said that why the hell should Sammy Hagar have a say on whether or not Frankie, The Wilson Sisters, or JC Mellancamp have their songs played at a McCain rally. Seems to me Saint John, Eye, et al. you folks don't believe in freedom at all. You think artists should have no rights it sounds like to me.

Ad hominem attacks and blatant disrespect for the people you're debating against does you no favors. Referring to people as "guy," telling people to "get a grip," and implying that the entire white race belongs to the KKK? Small wonder he's getting "trashed."
In one way, debating politics is pointless... I'm not going to change Slander's mind any more than he's going to change mine. But, if done respectfully, it does give each person a chance to hone/refine his own views. Slander is rarely respectful, so he reaps what he sows a lot of the time.[/quote]

You are kidding right. You remarks are extremely defensive. As a white male I take offense to some of this crap you have posted above. I will however point out when my race acts RACIST. Sorry. I want to better my race not bury my head in the sand when hate goes on in my country. I agree with you that debate is a pointless. I wasn't trying to change your mind at all. I wanted to have a legitimate conversation about the rights of recording artists when it comes to their songs being used by politicians. I am very respectful of your views Ehwmatt. However when attacked I will attack. And I'm sorry if words like naive and ignorant are offensive to you. Damn you really need to get some tougher skin. I guess the x-rated Tirade of Saint John are what you consider civil discourse?

You didn't hurt my feelings at all, don't worry. My skin is plenty thick. Your tone IS dismissive and disrespectful 99.9% of the time, here included, so most of us here don't take you seriously. Thanks for worrying about my feelings though. But if you're taking offense to my remarks above, it is YOU that needs the tougher skin.

I think a lot of you on here sit here and get pissed and go nuts at these virtual debates. I just laugh.

Bla, bla, bla....LMAO..."Get a grip...Grow a Pair...My Dad is bigger than your Dad and other thrid grade playground phrasology made popular by Slander."

You my friend are one predictable joke after another. As the man said, you are so disrespectful that NOBODY (not one single person on here) takes anything you say serious, so really...you are a big joke, with an amusing punch line.

Eye you are hilarious. I love how you speak for others. Yes there are others who don't like me on this board simply because I like Frankie. This all goes back to when I first started posting. I have also developed some nice connections here as well. As far as being disrespectful, gimme a break, I've been called everything here, so quit being a hypocrite. The bottom line here is the fact that I like and admire Sullivan.

Sorry my friend, if it were only that simple...

Has nothing to do with Sullivan. Serveral people here like Sullivan and we all admire him. The difference is, JV and others are apt at making their points, while respecting others. You don't have that ability. You constantly attempt to belittle, while name calling and finger pointing.

Bottom line, the reason people don’t like is not because you are a self righteous, pig headed, over bearing, argumentative pain in the ass. Nope, not at all.

They don’t like you because you show zero respect for others and their opinions. Furthermore, you don’t normally even have the nerve to straight forward state what you want to say, but instead you relay on passive aggressive insults, that you actually think fly over the head of most.

If you really want to see how to make an alternative point known, while at the same time driving home facts that may actually make others alter our own perception (that actually is what debate is about), then take a page out of JV’s book. While I often don’t agree with him, several times he has forced me to reexamine my way of thinking on a subject.

You on the other hand. You just give us ALL a good laugh. Sometimes I feel that is what you are after, so if it is keep up the good work. You are clearly the best joke the board has going for it. But if you actually ever want to be taken series, then stop insulting everyone and their intelligence. I think that you would find it to be a lot more pleasant world if you did.

i would dare say most...and you would find few to disagree...

and your statements show just how little you understand...

I'm saying, why don't you show some respect for others and perhaps they might show some for you....and you even find a way to argue with that...says a lot about your complete lack of character...

Please. I don't need value judgements from you Eye. Give it up. Worry about your own character and judgment and I'll worry about mine. Like I said I love how you've become a spokesman for those who disagree with me. Like I said this all dates back to my defense of FS. I have been attacked here repeatedly, called every name in the book and I'm still here. You know nothing about respecting other peoples views. You and others on this board have proven that repeatedly. So please don't come at me about character and respect. You guys are playing a losing hand.

JV...did you find Hagar's comments insightful? Meaning that he liked the fact that peolple used his song to as a call of action, not matter what side...

I think it says a lot...Sometimes we all get so carried away with this two party politics, that we forget we are all on (are supposed to be) on the same side...

I guess what I'm saying is I liked that fact that he is saying, no matter what side...DO SOMETHING.....no matter what your view, your actions mean something and your dedication can be respected...

Honestly, when i watch debates etc., I don't really even get the sense the two candidates dislike each other that much...Most of their (and I say MOST) of their differnces are semantics in many ways, and they both seem to be able to put it in perspective...

Contrastly, I really got the sense eight years ago that Bush and Gore really didn't like each other...Bush is a much polarizing personality it seems...Gore to probably....

But aren't we all on the same side? Even if we have different ways to go about it?
