JacenSolo wrote:I'll probably pick the album up out of curiousity, to be a completist. My personal view on Jamison and Sullivan aren't too high, though. Several years back I was in constant contact with FS, until he fire Dave, and didn't have the balls to tell him, Poor Dave found out in the melodicrock.com front page, i dared voiced my opinion about that to FS, and, well that ended that friendship. As for Jamison, well he had the audacity to lie to me about Jim & Frankie not being in Survivor anymore, when he was touring as Survivor some years back, but, that is how I met FS and passed on info that hopefully was useful in stopping the illegal use of the name Survivor. Sadly of course he fired Dave (who is vocally in better shape the JJ), and brought back Jamison, to try to regain the "pretty boy" image of the band. Sadly Survivor, my favorite band, is as relevant as parachute pants are now. As for Fire Makes Steel, it's an awesome album, and Dave sings the tracks with balls, the way Peterik/Sullivan intended, don't know if Jamison can or not, he doesn't have the depth to do it, nor the highs anymore, based on the bootlegs I've been hearing recently.

Wow, this is new information. I´ve heard that Dave left the group (Survivor website says this too). But if Frankie and Jimi can come up with good album all these past things can be forgiven.

FYI Dave left the band for medical reasons. It's a proven fact, just read almost every bio of the band, it even says it on dave's homepage.

You're right, Survivor Fan, those are great songs. But that is not Dave. That is Frankie singing those two songs. They were to be on his solo album.

I guarantee it's Frankie and yes he is a great vocalist. Too bad we don't get to hear more of his voice.

I'm not talking about Dave's 1980's departure, I'm talking about his getting fired a few years back. He left in the mid 80's because of throat polyphs, the recent history will be masked & hidden by Frankie. And yes, lies is performed & sang by Frankie.

So Survivor boys have landed a deal with Frontiers records, the home for many great AOR bands. The first quarter of next year will be great as there will be new Survivor album and my other favourite act Toto is also releasing album.

Very cool news that Survivor signed with Frontiers.

Heck I might even get to hear the CD before it's official release since the site I do my reviews for gets a lot of advance material from Frontiers.

I liked the fact that Survivor plans to stay true to their sound that made them big in the 80's! I can't imagine Survivor having a "modernized" sound.

Yep, that works over trying to sound flavor of the monthy. Other bands have tried the second route only to be crucified by both their die hard and casual fans.

It's Official!!!

Postby survivorfan2005 » Wed Oct 19, 2005 4:10 pm

Frontiers Records welcomes legendary rock band SURVIVOR for the release of a brand new studio album in the spring of 2006 !

The story of SURVIVOR began in the cold winter of 1977 under the initiative of Frankie Sullivan and Jim Peterik, but only three albums and five years later this name became well-known all over the world, when the band composed “Eye of the Tiger” for the movie “Rocky III” with Sylvester Stallone, which went on to win the Grammy Award and to hit # 1 of the charts in many countries.

After the next album “Caught In The Game”, the former COBRA shouter Jimi Jamison was introduced to the fans, making his debut on the worldwide hit (soundtrack of “Rocky IV” and # 2 in the US charts) “Burning Heart”. The following album, in 1984, “Vital Signs” is still counted nowadays among the milestones of melodic rock, with tracks like “Can’t Hold Back” or “High On You”. “Can’t Hold Back” entered the Top Ten of the US charts and the second single release “The Search Is Over” reached Nr. 2 on the hot 100. The following album “When Seconds Count” kept the typical trademarks of the Survivor sound and reached the USA Top Ten again with the single “Is This Love”. “Too Hot To Sleep” was the title of the last Survivor record in 1988, which is still considered by many as their best record, containing the singles “Across The Miles” and “Didn’t Know It Was Love”.

This was the last sign of life from SURVIVOR up to now, besides two “Greatest Hits” compilations which were quite popular by the fans. Now, 17 years later and with a line-up featuring Frankie Sullivan along with long-time members Jimi Jamison and Marc Droubay, plus Chris Grove and the new face Barry Dunaway (DOKKEN; YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) on bass, SURVIVOR are back! “The present line-up, with the exception of our bass player, has been playing together since 1997” says Frankie Sullivan, “so really we’ve been together a long time and Barry Dunaway, our newest member solidified this line-up all the way”.

When asked as to “why now?”, Sullivan explains: “We have spent a lot of time in the studio working even though we have not released a record of all new SURVIVOR material in all these years. The “Greatest Hits” and “Essentials” on the band have been amazing in so far as the demand for us to continue to do them. We are glad that phase is now over and we set our sights on the new studio record. Most of all, we feel the fans deserve it more than anyone or anything. They have waited a long time and are overdue for new material. Having a CD of all new material to give them is first and foremost and what it is all about.

“The fans can expect us to stay true to who and what we are”, says Sullivan. “There is no plan to change the SURVIVOR sound. There is no what I call “target” writing or any attempt to make a 2005 “hip” version of SURVIVOR. I believe one must be true to themselves. Our fans can expect the SURVIVOR they have come to know and love during the years”.

The band is currently busy in the recording studio working hard on the new material. Some of the song titles set to make it to the album include: “Fire Makes Steel”, “One More Chance”, “Give Me The Word” and “Seconds Away”.

SURVIVOR are also planning some live appearances in Europe to coincide with the release of the record. “Nothing makes this band happier than to play live” explains Sullivan, who finally concludes “We thank all our fans, from the bottom of our hearts, for being there with us. Now, Are you Ready To ROCK...!?!?”.

YaY! I can't wait. I've heard Dave on "Seconds Away" that song almost always makes me cry. I believe Jamo will do a good job on it also, it should be an instant hit, along with FMS.

Speaking of that..... :D FMS is going to be the new theme song for Rocky VI!

Cool, I was HOPING with both Rocky and Survivor being renewed, that Sly would hook up with Frankie again and get the band on the soundtrack.

I can't picture a Rocky without Survivor for some reason. Everybody has already informed me when Rocky comes out, I'll be seeing it alone. FINE! More popcorn for me!

I haven't heard so many encouraging posts about Fire Makes Steel though...is it really that week? I'm sure the song would probably be remixed for the Rocky soundtrack.

As a matter of fact whenever I went to see Jamo he gave me a sample and I thought It was really great, sure Jamo dosn't have Dave's voice but I though he done a wonderfull job on it and I also got to hear him on Dave's old song "Seconds Away" I really think that song will reach above the hights of "The Search Is Over", it makes me almost cry everytime I hear it. As for FMS, I believe it will reach beyond the ranks of Eye of The Tiger (He done a really great job of this song also). I can almost garuntee you from what i've heard of the CD thus far, if the band promotes it enough with enough publicity, it will be a chart topper for sure. Say goodbye to the "Old Survivor" Welcome to the new era with the same style.

I can't say for definite that it will be on the cd or not. If you however want to hear the Eye of The Tiger, I have the song with jimi singing, I may be able to hook you up with a clip. Just send me a Private Message.

Seconds Away

Postby JacenSolo » Mon Oct 31, 2005 10:34 am

Had to pull the Fire Makes Steel demos and give them a spin last night, and man, Seconds Away was good....hope the new version doesn't go the same route that Fire Makes Steel went, be a shame to see 2 great songs turned into mediocre messes.

I got GREAT NEWS! I have recieved information on a release date for the new CD! It is stated to be released late Nov. or The First 2 weeks of Dec. That sounds great compared to the years in between the last new cd. lol
I recently had the chance to speak with Frankie. I asked him if they were going to perform on a talk show such as Letterman to promote the CD. He told me that it's a great possibility and that if they do it will be after or sometime before the new promotional Tour in Europe.

All I can say is, get ready to rock like never before.....

I don't see how, absent any official word from the band aside from vague promises, that the world (hopefully. It IS going to see a US release, right?) will be seeing the album in a matter of weeks.

And when Andrew makes a prediction on a melodicrock artist, you can pretty much bet the house. '06 it is, though I'll be stoked in the unlikely event Andrew's wrong.

I sent an email to frontiers records in regards to the release date. They said that it would probobly be in Mid December before Christmas. I mean it really dosnt matter to me, don't get me wrong I want it now!, lol, I'm just thankfull that its getting made. You can't rush great talent. We've waited since 1993 for a new album, surely we can wait a few more months. :-)
