That is an excellent show! I just wish they'd sing "Oceans" or "Seconds Away" live... that would be awsome!

Oceans would be great. Never gonna let you go would be great too. Frankie's guitar soars on that song. As far as the rest of WSC let's bag it.

Incidentally, I thought "I Can't Let You Go" was the highlight of WSC. Jamo actually nailed that song pretty well.

Does anyone have a clip of "Oceans" live? I've never been able to get ahold of one.

I can't let you go is terrific live. Did they do In Good Faith live? Was this released as a single?

Oceans and Can't Let You Go are total standouts, head/shoulders above the rest of the record.

Backstreet Love Affair is good too.

Geez...forgot about "Oceans". Best Survivor song ever. CLYG is a close second on the record.

I like Oceans but like on every other song on WSC it doesn't know when to quit. It goes over the top and nearly turns into cheese. It reminds me of Pride of Lions. For the record I like POL but sometimes the music borders on parody.

In good faith was released as a single but only in Germany. Don´t know if Survivor performed those songs live, Jimi with his Solo Band yes.

Word!

Meanwhile, recently been listening to BLA and surely one of the highlights of WSC. Speaking of WSC record, it would have been great if they included Burning Heart and maybe removed How much love.

There are some rather amusing clips of Survivor lip synching In Good Faith around from German tv.I have 3 of them, the bassist and drummer are session guys as Marc and Stephan had just left.I will have to watch them again very 1980's.

Those recordings are classic...the drummer looks like an 80's porn star...(or that's what i've heard)....

Actually, I always thought In Good Faith was a pretty good song...good hooks...very ballad for Red....

Wonder if they ever played "Santa Anna Winds" live...or Slander...love the Caught in the Game stuff....

And for the record Red, I don't dislike the When Seconds Count Album as a whole...I thought the singles they released off of it were some of the weakest on the album...it's a shame that How Much Love and Is This Love will go down as the last two hits....

But there is good stuff...I like 'Backstreet' at good deal...Man Against the World is a good tune...I even like Keep it Right Here and a couple other...stipped of all the over keyboarding, it could have been a good album...for me it was just two 'Howard Jones' meets Survivor...

I can remember getting that album and "Slippery When Wet' from Bon Jovi around the same time and wishing so much that I liked the Survivior album more...but I just didnt'....

They are definately funny those German TV clips I also have one of JJ lipsynching the Baywatch theme in 1999 from German TV.The drummer is so daft the cymbol stand falls over halfway through the song and he tries to pick it up whilst stopping "playing".
You are right about the In Good Faith drummer!!!

Yep, BSLA sneaks up on you out of nowhere among the rest of WSC. It's a tough, gritty, crunchy little urgent mid-tempo/rocker.

Agree w/ EyePatch too. Keep It Right Here, though in keeping with the poppier side of the album is pretty good.

I hate backstreet love affair because of the cheese! Please. Peterik/Sullivan are better than this song. I'm so sick of lyrics like "meet me in the city tonight". What the hell is the infatuation with the street, city, the night. Enough already. This album sounds thrown together. Thank god Ron Nevison put some polish on it. Frankies quitar nearly saves it too. Did they hear out of a date it sounded when they were mixing? I just don't get it. I agree with Eye. I remember listening to other records at the time like 5150, Raised on Radio and thinking "houston we've got a problem"

Hello Baby! Wow what a start to that album. It was like screw you DLR we have moved on. Very little filler on that album. Yes lot's of keyboards but it's not like a tidal wave of syrup like on WSC. Eye you and are getting along to well of late.

The best "street" lyric was...

"Every night, a fleeting glimpse of candlelight
Chases across the atmosphere
But you're not here
And I see the shape
Of moonlight on the cityscape
But now the skyline wears a shroud
I hear your voice in every crowd."

It goes downhill from there...but Peterik's such a badass; you can tell by the way he throws back his wet hair on the "EOTT" video, and the way the guys walk in unison like a L.A. street gang before heading into the alley. THAT'S where the obsession with streets and lights came in. Dude was born and raised on the streets and it's reflected in his appearance, personality, and music.

RED BABY! I think it's a midwestern thing! LOL! Cruzin....backstreets......rebelgirls....and of course Chicago is a kickass city, but most of these guys grew up in the burbs. Hell I grew up just a couple hours south of them, maybe that's why I can relate so much. I loved cruzin down mainstreet in my mustang chasin the guys, partying in the backstreets and getting into a few fights now and then too LOL:)

I think there can be a fine line between a great rock/pop song and absolute cheese. I couldn't believe Jimi complained that Talkin Bout Love was too pop after singing some of the stuff he has. I'll be ready is very pop. In any event this is not a criticism of Jimi. It's a plus he can sing rock and pop.

You are right Jimi has a good pop voice. Dave is a rocker. There voices are not that similar and I get tired of hearing that. Both are talented in their own respects. I'll be frank, no pun intended, I hated Jimi's version of Tiger. I tried to give it a chance. It went from being a bad ass song to nearly cabaret. It loses it's street feel and is way too pop. Just my humble opinion. Having said that it doesn't mean I don't think Jamo is great. Vital Signs is an incredible effort by all parties.

This album sounds thrown together. Thank god Ron Nevison put some polish on it. Frankies quitar nearly saves it too. Did they hear out of a date it sounded when they were mixing?

For me WSC was originally a disappointment for me, especially Marc's drum sound. It still drives me up the wall! Not to mention that the band i think tried to sell out. Tried everything possible to sound pop as much as possible, but retaining their rock signature sound. A casual friend a girl that time hated rock bands, asked me however, if she could borrow my WSC CD, because she "Loved it!" From then I knew if Survivor could attract her with the kind of music in WSC, frankly I felt it was the beginning of the end. Years later Marc mentioned those exact words.

WSC however, sounded more organic and less polished than VS. What shocked me was to learn that they used the very same equipment as VS. Puzzling.

On the bright side, I think Oceans had the best lyrics, like :"We rode the crest of the wave are we destined to leave love behind" "We shut out the hurt. We cast love aside. Stubborn beyond the point of all reason, stranded by pride". Great imagery!

And then some: "To challenge the rising tide or drown in a sea of tears" Just brilliant, IMO.

Overall, WSC ranks as one of my least favorite albums, but it does still have it's good points too.

I have always thought that Jimi's voice was at it's absolute best on the WSC album.

CLYG is a great song, Frankie Rocks on it, and I love Marc's drumming on it, Very soulfull singing from Jimi.

Oceans is another highlight of the album, again very soulfull vocals from Jimi. I read an article in a magazine one time where the writer said that he considered Oceans to have the best guitar solo of the year.

My brother, who is not a Survivor fan overall, but who likes some of their songs, says that he thinks that BSLA is the only good song from WSC.

Funny thing, at the high school that I went to the band t-shirts that you would always see the most were Van Halen, Rush, Iron Maiden and Kiss, but the shirt that you would probably see the fifth most at the time was the WSC shirt. I used to see those everywhere at school or around town.

Couldn´t agree more. WSC is also not my favorite album but it had some very good parts. Don´t like "backstreet" but "oceans" and "Can´t let you go" are also my favs.
