I do think that's fair. Eddie was all over MTV with the No Control album.

He was all over radio with it too.

Yes he was as was Survivor with the 3 aforementioned songs.

You never heard American Heartbeat? Top 20! By the way on Billboard! The One That Really Matters was on the aor chart!

Ive heard Silver Girl played on radio in the Philippines in Jan '83. But a bit of tangent here, Poor Man's Son on radio in Singapore in 2005!

Slander, no one has. Seriously if American Heartbeat was a top forty hit...it NEVER got played again after if dropped out of the top forty, If American Heartbeat did make it to #20 it made it only because the song Eye of the Tiger got it there. Shakin, Think I'm In Love, and No Control are still all played on Classic Rock Stations. Take a Little Bit got more airplay on the radio and MTV than American Heartbeat. Personally I don't even think that American Heartbeat is even a good song.

Don't be afraid to admit it No Control is better than EOTT. It wasn't Survivor's best album....Vital Signs was. I would give you Vital Signs was more successful than No Control.

it's as matter of taste guys...I like EOTT much better than Vital Signs and would be glad to go through song-by-song with anyone on that...Furthermore, why are we hung up on hits...yes American Heartbeat was a top 20 single, but it's not even my sixth or seventh favorite song on the Album.

I also have No Control and it's a good album as well, but to be honest I like Can't Hold Back just as much. I also got a lot of play out of Right Here and I still listen to that CD as well.

But come on guys...really, if we were that worried about hits and what was popular would we really be on a Survivor bboard 30 years later? Face it, they weren't never very mainstream. Eye was big, but for the most part they were faceless. I would say that 95 percent of the population would listen to that remixed duet of Eye of the Tiger that the guy did on the other post and not even know it was different singers. It's just not Van Halen in that level of popularity. However, I don't care. The EOTT album gives me just as much personal satisfaction as 5150 (one of my fav vh albums and albums of all time)...

So you keep saying. But no, I never heard American Heartbeat or The One That Really Matters on the radio. And when I got EOTT I did not recognize any other songs on it. (Sometimes you hear stuff but don't know who/what until you get a reference like the album...not the case here.)

SMan, you can't tell Dave28 he heard songs other the Eye on the radio if he really didn't.

I've never heard ANY song from that lineup on the radio but Eye.

And that is NOTHING at ALL against Dave Bickler, I think he's a fantastic signer, a kind of perry with balls vocalist.

Eye....Here friggin' here. I'm tired of the revisionist bs history. Everyone heard American Heartbeat. Damn it was a friggin top 20 song and everyone's acting like it was a b-side. They may not like the song but let's not take away from Dave's contributions. This is rediculous. Poor Man's Son was a top 40 hit that Sly Stallone heard! That was Dave on vocals. Not JJ. I'm sorry "IS THIS LOVE" would not have gotten Survivor on the soundtrack of ROCKY 3. Even though the camera loves JJ or so I'm told. While Survivor was racing up the charts Jamison and his band were making video with spaghetti falling out suitcases.

And Eye's post is another example why there needs to be a "SARCASM" smilie readily available. Sorry you missed it Slander.

I have not given my take on whether I like the song or not. I am simply telling you I never heard it on the radio!!!! As for Dave's contributions, here is what I have discovered for myself and said several times. Before picking up the Survivor discography I was a fan of the JJ-era due largely to Vital Signs. Once I listened to the Bickler era I have discovered that I am a bigger fan of that sound.

I never knew it was Poor Man's Son that Sly heard, do you have a link to that? I would love to read more about that. (Remember, I am a casual fan).

Yeah I got it from FS. Sly liked the underdog theme and the vibe from Poor Man's Son and Premonition.

I had forgotten about JP's site, that was a cool read. I also read the Burning Heart story. Pretty incredible circumstances and I have always had a respect for people who can write songs.

It really is a cool story! It's called preparation meets opportunity. Survivor was rewarded for its perserverance. JP and FS should be congratulated on writing a classic and Bickler should be congratulated for bringing the edge the song needed vocally.

Ive always liked the part where JP mentions Queen's Another one bites the dust. Atleast for me I think I can hear some of the resemblances between the two smash songs. But wouldn't you know it, EOTT is actually BETTER.

Saw Eddie Money in concert tonight. You'll never guess (how ironic) but Eddie opened his show tonight with the entire No Control album. I was blown away. No Control has to be one of my favorite albums of all time. After "No Control" the rest of the set was pretty much hits. Eddie played for about 2 hours. Wonder if this summer Eddie plans on doing this for all cities.
