It's a shame "Man Against The World" didn't make the Rocky IV soundtrack, as it was intended to, but I have to say that I do like "No Easy Way Out" a lot, too, and it probably fit the Rocky IV vibe a bit better (it sounds less theatrical, and more like the classic 80s rock/pop sound that defined Rocky IV.) Still, I think "Man Against The World" would have been good to include on the R4 soundtrack CD. I mean, hell, they included "Sweetest Victory" which doesn't appear in the movie, so why not MATW?

From my understanding, "Man Against The World" was intended to be the one and only Survivor song that would have appeared in Rocky IV. But Stallone wanted a song that Rocked more, and he asked them to come up with something different. After they wrote "Burning Heart" there was no intention of putting MATW in the movie. Again, that's what I've heard, anyway.

I believe that just within the last few years that MATW has been added to the Rocky IV soundtrack?

It's amazing how much the lead vocalist on "Sweetest Victory" sounds like Steve Perry!

Actually....I mean it just sounds like JP....his style through and through....especially the piano and the chorus melody....as far as who wrote what, I have no idea, but I would wage it is mostly JP.....

JP had produced it, so it's his baby imo. That said, I find the drum sound different than any other tune in WSC album, which therefore happens to be more to my preference.

You may be right, I'm not sure. I always thought that Stallone asked them for two songs-- Burning Heart as a sort of "new" EOTT, and "MATW" for the driving montage, which was then scrapped in favor of "No Easy Way Out." But that's just based on stuff I read on other message boards and various sites, so I may have gotten some misinformation.

Anyone know the story behind "Sweetest Victory"? The band (Touch) doesn't seem to have done anything else, and the song isn't used in the movie. I always thought it should have been used during the closing credits, and I'm sure it was written with that intention. I wonder why they scrapped it in favor of recycling "Hearts On Fire"....

Although without Marc on the drums, I won't call it a proper reunion.

The singer on the Touch track is none other than Marq Torien, later of Bulletboys fame, and yeah, he does sound more than a bit like Steve Perry....probably why I always loved that tune.
