On the front page is a CD Showcase with samples to EVERY track on the album.

Yet not one single post on the Survivor forum???

That speaks volumes people!! Am I wrong?

In my case, if at all possible, I hold off on listening to samples of albums that I'm really looking forward to until I can just hear the entire thing all at once.

I did the same for the Jim Peterik CD until I got the review copy from Frontiers.

Otherwise, I would've been posting my butt off listening to the samples.

LOL...I posted the press release a few weeks back and a few samples and there was overnight 2 or 3 pages of comments.

I post all samples and there is NOT ONE post!

Just curious as to why...

OMG!!! Sweet electric guitars!! Thanks, the songs that I havn't heard now have are frickin' sweet! survivor is REACHing for the Top 10 list and they may have it!!! I've been to several music stores lately and some FYE stores asking about this new album.

Some stores had a promo poster and a preorder sheet which had tons of names already on it. Considering the hype already, just imagine the hype whenever the new rocky movie comes out with FMS in it! I really like the tracks with FS in them, they were better than I expected. I even like nevertheless!!

Let's start talking!

Postby MarcelJordan » Tue Mar 21, 2006 8:08 pm

I love the FS ones! Talkin about love is brilliant! Geez, didn't know FS could sing that way. However, I could have sworn there was a whole of Firehouse in it.

Now, I'm gonna have a bit of fun. Make a friend of mine here TAL and tell him its Firehouse. Will let you know if he believes me.

Need a few more listens. If there is a "weak" track maybe it would be "Rhythm of your heart". Sorry but it doesn't have enough punch, IMO.

I'm also a bit confused. Nevertheless sounds different from what Ive heard earlier. Wish I had the full version of the earlier version...for posterity.

Home is great.

Just comments at the moment. Need more listens. I'll be back!

Andrew, thank you, thank you, thank you for these!!

Absolutley loving the sound of this album! Although i like the FS tracks, i just don't think it sounds like Survivor though and would have preferred JJ to stick with all the vocals. It kind of gives the album a slight disjointed feel for me, a little like Journey's Generations record did when they all wanted to try their hand at stepping up to the mic!

I love this site and cannot wait for the release of Reach. No disrespect to FS but the vocals should have been left for Jimi. Jimi could sing the McDonald's theme and it would be incredible. Thank you for putting the song samples up on the site, just my opinion but I think Gimme The Word is the chart topper of the bunch :D

Amen.
Amen to Paul (excepting the swipe at Generations. With Rolie at least, Journey had some track record with different Vocalists)
Amen again to 'Drew.

The FS vox should've been replaced by jamo overdubbing vocals. Reading between the lines in one of FS' last posts on the official site, Frontiers balked at the FS tracks b/c Jamo wasn't fronting them but lost out anyway....hell if label can't make it happen then as Andrew told me, they're in the can. This STILL should be, warts and all. a good good solid record.

Ah hem! Survivor did have Peterik on leadin their FIRST record. While since this release is Survivor WITHOUT Peterik, I would consider as a FIRST record for arguments sake.

Yeah so far what we hear, it doesn't sound like Survivor but still I want to hear the whole tune to decide what doesn't work. Meanwhile, don't tell me Frankie doesn't sound good on atleast Talking 'bout love. Its got a great ring to it, IMO. Meanwhile, nothing really wrong about someone else do the vocals, especially when its from one of the founders.

Face it, FS is a BIG part of Survivor, like it or not (whether you want him to leave the vocals to JJ). Without him at all, I'll look somewhere else...sorry. BTW, how many solos are there, I want more of them!!!

Correct me, but isn't Half of my heart a duet of sorts? FS and JJ did speak of one in 2000. Wonder if this is the one they were talking about. Anyone know the facts?

Lastly, Frankie didn't say it was due to his vocals that Frontiers wanted it out. Also it was Nevertheless they weren't keen on. No mention against Talkin' bout love.

For the 4th freaking time, I’ve had to type up this?!!!! Geez! (in the space of 4 days!!!!)
Here’s my rankings of the tunes (atleast what we can hear from them) This better work.

Reach **** ½
FMS *****
Nevertheless ***
Gimme the word *****
One more chance **** 1/2
Talkin ‘bout love *****
Rythym of the heart ***
Home ***
I don’t ****
Seconds Away *****
Half of my heart *** ½
Don’t give up **** ½

Never said FS was not a big part of the band, sir. Just not a fan, (and your hair splitting aside, neither was label who DID say they wanted to drop Nevertheless because Jamo wasn't singing) of him indulging his lead singing fantasy.

I just started listening to the CD this morning and I will prepare a "casual fans review" later when I complete my listening. But first impression is that the first FS song is in the wrong place. It is not a bad song and his voice is not bad, but it is the 3rd track of the CD. The band is establishing itself with JJ for two rockin' tracks, then they bring in a different vocal on a similarly rockin tune. It just doesn't seem necessary. Since Generations was mentioned, that CD did a similar thing: two rockin' tracks with Steve and then they changed the vocal. But they also changed the type of song. Everything sounded different about it so it seemed OK that it was sung by someone else as well.

OK: As a lead singer, Frankie's a hell of a guitarist and BG vocalist.
And I mean that his guitars sound super on these clips.

I like Reach, FMS, SA, GMTW, I Don't, and DGU the best.

Hearing Droubay's urgent powerful THUMP THUMP THUMP ing on the rockers again is really awesome... wonder what THTS would've been like in '88 with his agressive, pounding style. Either way, good to have him back.

Jamo can STILL flat out deal heat.

You haven't seen me split hairs, those are with explicatives!

Indulging? Just two tunes out of 12? Whatever. And it ain't fantasy, its REAL. BTW, just want to warm up this thread a bit, Red Your comments are understandable, difference of opinion that's cool. :D

Agreed on Marc. I always dreamed of how THTS would have been with him on the skins. I Wasn't too keen on Mickey to be frank.

jrnyman28, although I agree about what you said, I'll rather have that tune than another slow number. More rockin' tunes the better. I sensed a hint of Heart (All Eyes) in there, so its fine with me. BTW, is there a solo in Nevertheless?

Red13JoePa, Im with you on your choices, but don't you dig Talkin' about love in any shape or form? I think that's a great one, regardless. (putting my huge FS bias aside).

MarcelJordan, you are correct that there are a few too many slow numbers. So it is a good choice of song, I just think it was bad placement.

I have listened to the CD 3 times now and I do enjoy it. It took a little getting used to JJ's "new" voice but it is clear and strong. FS sings well, I just don't see any "reason" for it. He doesn't bring anything different to the CD and JJ could have easily done the tracks. The middle slows down a little but the individual songs are pretty good. Only one or two on the disc that don't do much for me.

Overall, probably a 6.5 or 7 out of 10.

Most appreciate your comments. You're one step ahead, with full tunes at your fingertips, but I hope i'll give the record an 8.5 atleast when I get it. 8)

Still having insane working schedule but i gave the samples a quick listen. I still keep my prediction that this will be my album of the year. This time I even liked "neverthless" which I wasnt too keen on previosly. Reach and FMS are excellent openers for the album and maybe one slow number could have been replaced with rocker but its just minor point for me and doesnt much lower my enthusiasm about the cd. And thankfully "Gimmie the word" has heavier guitars so it makes it different from other slow songs on the album.

That's great to hear AORrules!

But guess what? I GOT THE WHOLE THING this morning! Woo hoo! Someone gave a clue how to go about doing so. Don't get me wrong though. Im still going to get the album officially and perhaps buy a couple more for some cousins of mine.

When I got time will give it a full listen and get back with my comments.

That´s good you are still buying the official version even if you have unofficial. I think it´s important if you really like some band that you support them by buying the real one. If this free downloading thing gets any worse soon nobody bothers to release new good music for us anymore.
