Talkin' About Too Hot To Sleep

Talking about Survivor their 1988 album Too Hot To Sleep is an essential. This is one of Andrew's top favorites. I still think VITAL SIGNS is their best album in total quality but THTS is the album I listened three times as VS. Here is my amazon review.

------

Too Hot To Sleep, one of my all time favorite albums, is Survivor's last original album released in late 1988. It is much heavier than previous works Vital Signs and When Seconds Count. They could play safe with another Vital Signs like albums that could produce much more hits. But they didn't do that. They finally produced what THEY really wanted to do. Some Survivor fans refer this album to Caught In A Game styled album. Maybe so in a way that they wanted to produce perfect melodic rock album. I think this work stands between Caught In A Game and Vital Signs. So the album became true to what they think is ideal rock.
She's A Star opens the album really hard but crisp pop tune as well sounding like Caught In A Game with a bit of Vital Signs mix. "Desperate Dream" is a great emotional ballad sounding familiar to

I won this cassette way back when. I listened to it and the only tune that jumped out at me was "Across The Miles". But I am sure that had to do with the fact that I was in a long-distance relationship. I just never gave the tape a chance I guess. But everyone speaks so highly of it that I keep intending to put it on. The only place I can do that is in my home stereo, which means I need some alone time to listen. Otherwise everyone else will complain!

I don't rate it too highly. I know many disagree with me, but I rate it among the weaker Survivor albums. Don't get me wrong though, just because I rate it among the weaker albums, it still kicks a**. All Survivor albums so far are just amazing. The highlights from Too Hot To Sleep are in my opinion the title track and Frankie's solo on Burning Bridges (starting at 3:09). Anyway, for what it is worth, here is a list of how I rank the albums:

1. Survivor
2. Eye of the Tiger
3. Caught In The Game
4. When Seconds Count
5. Premonition
6. Too Hot To Sleep
7. Vital Signs

Reach is still too new to rank. I need to listen to it more. Hopefully it grows on me, because so far it would have made the bottom of the list.

Overall an amazing amazing record. Duels w/ Vital Signs for my top spot. Rythm Of The City is great (Jamo a house aflame: "MMMIIIDDDNNNIIIGGGGHHHHTTTTT MY LOVE IS ON FIRE!")....Tell Me I'm The One DOES have that weird children's choir sounding kinda chorus, but someting about it is just so cool!! Good point. Plus the guitars that open the song...wow.

2 best tracks: Desperate Dreams and Didn't Know It Was Love....
"I love almost everybody."---Rocky Balboa 1990
"Let's reform this thing.Let's go out and get some guys who want to work and go do it"--Neal Schon February, 2001
"I looked at Neal, and I just saw a guy who really wants his band back"-JCain 2/01
