Well fans we're here again after 17 years... This is the official single thread. Just tell us what do you think will be a smash hit and do you think anyone of them will go as far as Eye of the Tiger?

None will be 'the new EOTT'. That is not to say there are none that are as good, it is just not the right musical environment. But I really think Reach has all the makings of a hit. And I still believe the one-two punch of Fire Makes Steel and Reach using Rocky Balboa for promotions will be extremely effective for the band.

Yep. Too effective, too smart. Makes too much sense.

Just like me and deano coming up with the Stallone thing for TPIYH and Deano actually getting it into Sly's hands and Sly's peeps contacting management.

I'd bet management just shrugged.

Why wouldn't management be all over getting Generations into a movie? Probably b/c the fans came up with it....dismissed as crackpotism.

I am hearing some rumored problems. Survivor has apparantly cancelled a couple dates citing vocal problems. But it is rumored that is covering up internal issues...

Not cool...would Andrew care to weigh in? I also notice the Sullivan Reach interview's not been mentioned for a while....

I wouldn't be suprised if JJ's voice is unperformable. After all it is Spring and a lot of sickness is airborne, my vocals arn't too good this time of the year either... but internal issues? I highly doubt it but anytihng is possilbe... I do know that he's coming to Memphis June 3rd to perform with RPM, as far as I know that's still on schedule..

Exaclty. Why the one-off solo shows? He did another one in March in FL. Two disquieting things can be construed out of this odd development.
The rumours of discord that J28 reported are founded, or keeping to the script they've followed thus far Survivor as a band are ignoring the States altogether regards to Reach. No album, no singles, no shows in the US. Vermont was just "postponed."

I agree. it does seem like they are ignoring us....how can they ignore their home? I'm going to talk to Jimi about this when he comes to Memphis on the 3rd. Anyhow, maybe we'll get a single over here soon. If not, then I wonder how they think that's going to make the millions and millions of Survivor fans over here feel?

I understand if it's not fiscally feasible (as it isn't for most good bands anymore) over here stateside. But put out a statement, like "Hey, we're tring to get Reach released in the US, just be a little patient" but all the commication's like sunny and happy like everything's a huge go. While the uncertainty of the US release waits ignored like a ridiculous big pink elephant in the corner.

Hey everyone...newbie here but I lurk from time to time just to see what's happening.

I was concerned when I read the posts about shows being cancelled and speculation that it might be because of vocal troubles. I can say with 100% certainty that there are absolutely no problems with Jimi's voice. He's as strong as ever. I spoke with his webmaster today just to put my own mind at ease. I've always joked that 30 years from now he'll still be up on that stage belting them out clear as a bell!

I guess we'll all just have to hang tight and see if we get an official reason for the recent cancellations. Lack of promotion (which seems to be the band's biggest obstacle) would be my guess. It's a shame too with Reach out there now.

As I stated in a recent post...
If Toto have delivered one monster album with 'Falling In Between' and Jim Peterik's "Above the Storm", then 'Reach' stands only half a step below from that. It iwas a good move on Frontiers' part to have such all-time AOR heavyweights on their roster, and I have absolutely no clue as to how much Volcano have invested on 'Reach' but they are speculated as being the hold for this album when it reaches the states.

I wouldn't want to get too political but if Toto and JP have so far benefited from a lot of promotion work, then Survivor should deserve an equally big and tasty piece of the pie judging by this effort..

Will be the title track, should be the house aflame that is Fire Makes Steel. Been listening to REACH alot, and can never get past this song without hitting the "back" button to go all the way through again.
Also, regards to Rocky REACH is a good choice thematically speaking, but the more aggressive, more menacing, heavier FMS would be better.

A new post on the Survivor site by FS says that the latest sales figures since Reach was released is just North of 30K way more than expected. I think once they start touring more and once its released in the US it will jump even higher.

Well, I'm thinking with the high overseas sales now confirmed a US release should now be iminent.

I voted for Fire Makes Steel because it's tied with Give Me the Word as my two favorite songs from the new album. But sadly I think the days of bands like Survivor and other great AOR bands is pretty much over.

If Survivor could get a song in "Rocky Balboa" AKA-Rocky VI then they might have a slight chance at a hit song, at least in countries other than the U.S.

In the days of old I would say the most likely hit of of the Reach CD would probably be Reach, although one of the ballads would have had a shot as well.

J/S.
I think it's all but decided the band is definatle getting 1 track if not 2 onto Rocky Balboa. Probably the title track. You may or may not know that at 1 point it looked like Deano and myself had put The Place In Your Heart, Faith In The Heartland and 2 other songs off Generations, Never Too Late and Beyond The Clouds into Stallone's consideration. I don't know where that stands at this time, though. TPIYH is as perfect as FMS for it.

Agree with you about Gimme The World, too. Sneaky song, might even be better than Reach. Sullivan's lead guitars are devasting on it.

Interesting facts about Reach thar you may or may not know:

"One More Chance' was written by FS and Dave Bickler

Amy Jamison (JJ's girl) helped write "Gimme The Word".
probobly the reason it'd be more likely to appear on a modern day rock station eventhough Amy plays another style of music.

"I Don't" was also written by FS and Bickler

Chris Grove helped Sullivan write "Talkin' Bout Love" but is said to no longer be in the band even though the song is destined for a hit.

Jim Peterik co-wrote "Rythem of Your Heart"

interesting huh?

No, I was not aware of that. That's awesome if that's the case!!!

When the Rocky Balboa fan forum site went up several months ago I was the first person to leave a message that Survivor should do the theme song for the movie, but I haven't been on that site in a while now.

Wait. Now Dunaway AND Grove are gone? WTF?
if this is true, then Andrew should make that call to Peterik that FS said he could during the interview.

I know he has the Jimi interview in the can, but see the Journey forum for a little hint of what may be hindering him from typing it up.

Btw...I heard Jimi Jamison's voice in concert a couple of years ago, and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if his voice was trashed. I know some of the loud screaming he does near the higher end of his range toward the end of many songs isnt' doing him any favors. When he was in Reno it sounded like his voice was either coming apart or something toward the end of the concert. I think the most annoying thing is the stupdly long FS solos that he seems obsessed with doing. It's one thing to do a solo, another to take it to over kill like they seem to do with "I see you in everyone"
