Review is in down at gig reviews. So-so rating.
saddening is that in front of a sellout crowd, the guy says not 1 Reach track was played.

I agree that they should be pushing "Reach", but maybe it has to do with the fact that the CD is not set for US release yet. They wouldn't want to promote an import and then hurt their US sales...

F- it. I would think a sale's a sale.
Somebody circulate a boot of this tour, please but not until they start playing Reach material. I guess the European leg of the tour is over ?

Er... that official website of theirs is a real fountain of info. Lemme get it straight now. Reach is out in Eu...but they pushed the tour back to the fall. They're playing US shows with no Reach tracks and the album's not out stateside?

Don't Survivor and Journey now have the same management (John Barruck)? Suddenly Journey seems to be doin' ok compared to that snafu!

hey, I didn't know that.. I don't really see how Journey became more of a big thing than Survivor in the first place. Don't get me wrong they're a great band and I have a lot of their CD's but Survivor could take them and give a run for their money in a battle of the bands competetion..

Anyhow, were's Andrew? maybe the interview got pushed back as well... :P

Journey had 12 years under their belt before Survivor actually "hit". I know there was more to Survivor, but none of it made an impact. If they had HH as manager Survivor would have toured their butts off and been more visible.

Probably the reason why Survivor is holding back the release of ”Reach” in US is that they don´t want there to be too long gap between the release of the album and the premiere of new Rocky film. The film gives much more push for the album when the release date is not too far from the film. But I agree that it would have made much more sense to tour Europe now when “Reach” is already out here.

Maybe management felt there was a saturation of EU right now with these kind of bands....

I largely agree with you on that.

I have told Jimi Jamison that I never understood why Survivor never gained the same amount of fame as Journey, aside from the fact that Scotti Brothers did a piss-poor job of promoting the band.

Basically Survivor and Journey are pretty much tied as my two favorite bands.

If I were to compare Survivor's most famous lineup of Jimi Jamison, Frankie Sullivan, Jim Peterik, Marc Droubay and Stephan Ellis against Journey's most famous lineup of Steve Perry, Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Steve Smith and Ross Valory I would rank them this way...

Jamison VS Perry- very slight edge to Jamison

Sullivan VS Schon- edge to Schon, although I like Sullivan's riffs better

Peterik VS Cain-slight edge to Cain because he is technically speaking the more trained player

Droubay VS Smith- edge to Smith because again he is the technical monster of the two, although I think Droubay has the more athoritative sound, a bigger sound from his drums

Ellis VS Valory- I think that Ellis is a great bass player without question, but I have to give the edge to Valory there

Jim Peterik is as far as I'm concerned the greatest songwriter in Rock history!

But as I've said to many people over the years if you like one of those two bands then I think you should also love the other!

Can't disagree on the rankings. Pretty spot-on.

Except I call the Valory/Ellis match a draw and Droubay over Smitty.
People who know me are going to kill me but Marc Droubay is a fantastic stix man. I'll also take on the Jamo over Perry issue but to me that's not even as close as Droubay over Smith.

I love Marc Droubay's drumming, he has a very ballsy sound to his playing, and he's one of the most underrated drummers out there! It's just that when I listen to those Vital Tech Tones and Vital Information CD's Smith's talent is mind blowing! But I am one of the biggest Marc Droubay fans you will ever come accross!

I also consider Stephan Ellis to be very underrated, and he was the perfect bass player to team-up with Droubay. I just think that Ross Valory has a little more versatility overall.

I give a very slight edge to Jamison over Perry because I just think Jamison has the smoother voice and is IMO slightly more soulfull, but Perry can not be far behind in soul at all. I don't think there is another singer other than Jamison who is as soulfull as Perry? Of course I think some guys like Lou Gramm, Joe-Lynn-Turner, Dave Bickler, John Wait and Paul Rogers are extremely soulfull as well.

Back in the early 1990's a friend of mine who is also a huge Survivor fan asked me if there was only one Survivor (that was at the same time Jamison was calling his own band Survivor) but I could only have 3 of the members in the band who would I want in it? But the other catch was that I had to choose between Sullivan VS Peterik, Jamison VS Bickler, and Droubay VS Ellis.
I said that I would choose to have the band be Jamison, Sullivan and Droubay. And as you know those are the three that are in the band right now.

But believe me, I would love to see Peterik and Ellis back in the band as well!
I wouldn't mind it if some day they would have the combination of both Jamison and Bickler in the band together. With both Jamison and Bickler being in their 50's it is hard to sing as many songs in each show as they used to. Give Jamison 7 or 8 songs a night, and give Bickler 7 or 8 songs a night and it should make it easier to have long concerts and more concerts.

Would like that as well, as has been bandied about with Van Halen. But then you'd have to pay 2 frontmen and it would just seem impossible fiscally. Agree that given the choice of 3 members, I'd take Jamo/Sully/Droubay and the replacement keyboardist and bassist.

No way....I'd take Bickler, Sullivan and Peterik...Peterik is Survivor....

Second choice, I'd take Jamisioin, Sullivan and Peterik if need be...

Given a perfect world....Bicker, Sullivan, Peterik, Marc and Ellis...That is SURVIVOR.....

Have you heard the Pride of Lions? It's good, but that stuff with Survivor would be GREAT...it's almost like both deals are just a little off without each other...

I like JJ's voice as well, I just like the raw emotion of the other stuff....some of it depends on the material...and I will admit i didn't like Dave as much on some of the stuff of the JJ era...just depends....

Well bassed on the question my buddy had asked me years ago it was that I had to choose between Peterik and Sullivan and therefore I said Sullivan because I love his guitar playing too much to give that up! But believe me I absolutely would love for Peterik to be back in Survivor, he's a great keyboardist and IMO the greatest songwriter ever!

Jamison is my #1 favorite singer of all time, but Bickler is in my top 5 though.

Survivor is my favorite band with Journey a close second. I think Jamison has one of the best voices in rock, but I have to disagree a little here from the popular opinion. I think Steve Perry has the best voice in rock period. I think Jamison's voice has a edgier power to it, like Mike Reno's voice, but Steve Perry puts more emotion into his singing than anyone I've ever seen. My list would look something like this for singers:

Steve Perry
Ann Wilson of Heart
Steve Walsh of Kansas
Jim Jamison
Mike Reno of Loverboy

For acts

Survivor
Journey (Perry years)
Rush
REO Speedwagon
Styx
Kansas
