The Search is Over - Dave

Postby Eyeof » Wed Jul 12, 2006 1:52 am

I was watching a DVD of a Surivor show from 1993 with Dave and I tell you what...the quality isn't that good, but Dave gives a right on performance of "The Search Is Over". I just could not get over how good it sounds. I also love him on Broken Promises. In that concert they also played a lot of stuff from the Too Hot to Sleep album. Sounds good....

Cool! I've never heard Dave do anything off TOTS. Did you find that off of ebay?

Bickler

Postby RockInDetroit » Wed Jul 12, 2006 4:46 am

I saw Survivor tour around that time with Bickler as the lead singer. There is nothing wrong with Bickler's voice. But, my impression of him is that he looked like a big druggie. And my suspicions were confirmed when before singing "High On You" he talked about being high. The crowd looked at him and just went......"loser"....you could here a pin drop. Honestly, the crowd could not get over his appearance....and me truthfully I did hardly recognize him. So about The Search is Over. Yes, he performed that song and his voice was fine....but he could not project that song as well as Jimi does....coming from a guy who looked at acted the way he did that day in concert. I know he has since cleaned up his appearance and I know this is rock and roll, lots of musicians in the industry do drugs....for all I am concerned he can do them if he wants to.....he just did not give Survivor that look they need with their fans all in the baby boomer generation. Bringing Jimi back was the smart move.

Written before JJ

Well, Vital Signs songs was written when DB was in the band. It was for him till his voice probs. JJ took it (after replacing DB) and there you have history.

I have not only seen Survivor with Dave Bickler on several occasion but I have had a few conversations with him too. I have never seen anything like what you described. I'm not saying that it did or didn't happen, just that it doesn't sound like anything that I have ever seen or heard from or about him.

As far as Dave on The Search Is Over I must say that he always did a great job on it.

Back in and around 1993 I was seeing Jimi Jamison perform it many times with his band and at that time I was also seeing Dave Bickler perform it with Survivor and in some cases Dave was hitting the high notes better than Jimi.

I'm a slightly bigger Jamison fan overall, but Dave Bickler is a great singer as well, and he always did great on TSIO.

When I saw Bickler on that tour he looked like the crypt keeper and acted like he was on some drugs. Again, no biggie because drugs are very previlent in R&R but for the show I was at the audience were very turned off by him.....appearance came first than his comments about drug use came second. I am saying this because when he played some of the ballads Survivor had they just did not emotional connect with the audience...because of the biasness the audience got from first impression. Hey, with Jimi out.....I would rather it be Bickler than someone new but it looks like that will not happen now. Survivor is in trouble.

This sounds like bullshit. One person in a crowd can tell how the whole crowd thinks and feels. Yeah right. And the comment that Dave sang better, but Jimi "projected himself" better. What non-sense. Either you can hit the notes or not, you either sing it correctly or not, and by ALL accounts Dave does this. His stage presence is different than Jimi's, yes, Jimi likes to run around alot (maybe by your accounts he's on "speed", someone beter get a urine sample quick). These kind of comments piss me off. Never accused someone of shit like that without knowing FOR A FACT. It hurts his rep and makes yourself look like a fool. Dave kicks ass. Always has. Always will. Now that's a fact.

Well, I see my crack is almost made, here in my meth-lab, let me put down this joint and shoot up. Oh that's right, I don't do drugs, , maybe like Dave I just don't "project" myself like Jimi.

Dave himself was talking about getting high so I am not saying anything that he didn't say. I thought he looked scary and so did my wife......ok I will not speak for others....but I saw a reaction. By projecting I meant presentation...there was nothing wrong with his voice.

Damn! If he was on a cd I think it wouldn't matter how he looked like. If he nailed the songs, more power to him. DB my fav. singer and always will be. Although JJ could (on a record) as I consider a more powerful vocalist (in his prime that is).

When I saw Dave singing, he usually always made a statement like "you wanna get high" or something like that before he'd sing High on You, refering to the song. What's the big deal? Dave is a class A act! Dave rulz!!! I heard a new Real Men of Genius commercial today! GO DAVE!!!

I heard a few new ones (at least new to me) a few weeks ago.

There are a couple of websites that have around 80 of his commercials posted, and they can be downloaded.

But I was wondering if you OR ANYONE ELSE FOR THAT MATTER can tell me if there is an official CD that Budweiser have released with them on it?

Also, I found one website that has some of the TV commercials with video posted for download, but it's only a small handfull of them. Does anyone know of a website that has downloadable versions of the TV commercials?

J/S,

Check this out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_Men_of_Genius

According to this, there is a cd out with some of the commercials on it. This shows 4 new bud commercials for 2006. This site is really interesting.
