as in After Jamison (still  )...was played Friday night and seems to have come off w/out a hitch in the Chicago area. Curious to see some write-ups on it as it is the band's homebase.

I posted a link to a review I found on Concertshows. The first one I found so far. Waiting to hear from others.

Sounds like it was a good show. Also FS has a note write up on the show on survivormusic.com

Sullivan's Assessment of the Show- Meaningless!!!!!

Postby SouthernBytheGraceofGod » Mon Jul 24, 2006 5:42 am

Yawn... as if Sullivan would post anything other than a glowing assessment of the show- he's made his bed and he has to lie in it! What's he gonna say except for how great his decision making is - afterall, it's not hard as his posting says.

He ran, right or wrong, Barry Dunaway out of the band for having a "bad attitude"- this just days after telling Andew in an interview that - exact quote here- "... just finding a bass player….along came Barry. As I always tell him when I see him, it's always a pleasure. He has one of the best attitudes for being in a band."

Frankie Sullivan has ZERO credibility- as a matter of fact if he says a show is great, I'm inclined to believe that he already knows it's not gonna work out!

I'm sure in some interview somewhere he's claiming that the snore-fest that is Reach is 'the best record we've ever made."

Wake me when the whole charade comes to it's inevitable headlining show with a puppet show as the support act! Coming to a bowling alley near you!
The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has it's limits!

When I read something like this "Last night was by far and by a long shot the best Survivor Show I have been a part of since the mid eighties. And even at our best I’m not sure we were never near this good of a live band." Its hard not to be mad why can't FS say WE HAD A GREAT SHOW I AM REALLY EXCITED. He makes it sound like all of the shows with JJ "his friend" stunk. Why compare if you really want people to move on ? I read his band notes today and there were times I thought he was being honest and speaking from the heart and then he would get into his PR machine mode and be insulting like the statement I posted above. I will say this again I have nothing against Robin after reading the concert review I wish I could give the guy a hug because I can't imagine how nervous he must have been, but the contradictory remarks from FS make is difficult for me to even consider going to see them. I think FS should let his talent do the talking because he is forever putting his foot in his mouth as far as I am concerned.

It's great to hear that they did Burning Heart!

I don't see why they were not playing it over the last 6 years seeing as Jimi Jamison was always playing it with his own band?!?! I hope they keep playing Burning Heart for good now.

I also hope that they will play Caught In The Game at every show. Again, that is a song that Jimi would always play at his own shows, and he wasn't even the original singer on it either. I have always thought that CITG is the perfect song to open a show with.

I don't mind when Sullivan plays long guitar solo's, in fact I am one of the few people who seems to enjoy that, but I wish he would let Marc Droubay play a drum solo in every show as well.

Nothing against Billy Ozello, but if Survivor now go in a harder Rocking direction, and I hope they do, it would have been good having someone like Bary Dunnaway in the band who has had a hard Rocking background.

They bring in Barry Dunnaway who had been in Malmsteen's band as well as in Dokken and then they record possibly their least Rocking album ever, now they bring in a Rocker like Robin McCauley but they don't have Dunnaway?

Of course I wish they would bring back Stephan Ellis into the band, he and Droubay were a great team!

But now more than ever with the addition of Robin McCauley I hope they decide to Rock out more. They should be playing songs like Caught In The Game, She's A star, Children Of the Night, Too Hot to Sleep, Take You On A Saturday and Rhythm Of The City, as well as newer songs like Fire Makes Steel and Give Me The Word.

I hope their really going to release another new album in 2007, and I hope that it ROCKS!!!

Although I don't feel that it was Jimi's fault that they went lite on the Reach album. Jimi has always wanted to Rock, and his Empires CD Rocked way more than Reach does!

Setlist

Postby RockInDetroit » Mon Jul 24, 2006 11:44 pm

From the review - On the set list thus far was: Reach, Burning Heart, Can't Hold Back, Fire Makes Steel, High on You, The Search is Over, Summer Nights and Seconds Away. They did an hour set.

Does this mean they didn't play Eye of the Tiger? Can't imagine that. And if the setlist was only an hour and they played 8 songs musta been the long guitar solo again.

considering some people have reported 20 minutes or more of a Guitar solo, I'd say that's a LOT of filler. I guess Robin needed time to rest his voice what with singing those 8 songs.

Sheryl....now you know how it feels....you were delighted by such things back in 2000....but you think much less of it when it's "Golden Throat" getting ripped on...I can remember JJ saying some pretty terrible things about Dave..

What comes around.....

It would be nice if Frankie didn't have to use these superlatives to describe the show ("...the best Survivor show I have been a part of since the mid eighties...I'm not sure we were never near this good of a live band."), we get the point, Jimi is no longer in the band.

I have a problem with the way Frankie is making himself look like the good guy in light of the recent goings on with Survivor. I'm not saying JJ is off the hook either, but at least he has taken the high road and not ripped his former bandmates in the media.

Not a big fan of this of this either. He's really low-roading it in his attempt to apppear to be taking the high road. The shots at Jamo (without mentioning his name of course) are weak.

Eyeof I can see I am not the only person who feels this way, I am not saying JJ is a saint none of us are ! I just don't appreciate the Jekyll and Hyde routine being displayed by FS. Have you heard Barry Dunaway slinging any mud towards FS what did he ever do to deserve his insults ?

You say I was delighted in 2000 I have my opinions and you have your's that doesn't make them right or wrong just different. We are all here to share our thoughts and I respect that but I would never act like or say that I knew how someone on this board felt because I don't know any of you personally.

I imagine it's like any other breakup. You know when someone says well we can still be friends. Regardless who cares. Good luck with the nightclub. The Jamison era is over.

That how it went down last time Frankie fired Dave? :) B/c Dave says he found out about from reading this site. :? Not from Frank VH.

You're actually trash talking because Jamison's been replaced or quit as singer of Survivor? This has to be sort of a first.

Give me a break..True or False the Jamison era is over with Survivor? How is that trash talking? Haven't spent time with Jimi I wish him the best. I just think that Sheryl and others have an entire website to gush over Jimi. I don't see Frankie or his webmaster on here talkin trash. God I hate hypocrites.

From me? I'm all for the band and the new lineup.
Frankie's a tool, though, and his track record's a mile long. That doesn't mean I don't love him as a player and think this is one of the best bands around.

I've spent time with both of them. Neither are a "tool" as you would call Frankie. I think they are just different people. Frankie is intense, Jimi is just rather aloof. I said in a previous post if you want to talk seriously about life and music then Frankie is your guy, if you want to drink a six pack and have a laugh then Jamo is your guy. It's a matter of taste. Both are decent people. I just can't understand what everyone is so wound up about.

Oh, excuse me. YOU "spent time ( ) with both of them." Guess that renders all of us non-insiders ( ) opinions moot. Tell me though, in your quality time fireside chats with both how did you conclude that Jimi is both aloof AND someone you want to have a six-pack with? What do you just sit there in silence and drink 3 beers a piece? I don't wanna have a 6er with anybody who's aloof.
Unless you're basing that opinion on Andrew's one recent interview with an (in hindsight) obviously done-with-it-all Jimi.

Yes Jimi was rather aloof in the time I spent with him. Dude it's just an observation. I'm not saying you are not entitled to an opinion. I just enjoyed the time with Frankie more. Frankie is a great guitarist, song writer, performer. I look at Jamo as just as a performer. Sorry those are my impressions. I just couldn't take Jamo very seriously.
