Survivor: The New Frontiers

Postby survivorfan2005 » Wed Jul 26, 2006 6:37 am

Hey everyone, I thought we could use a thread to discuss the future of the band with Robin M . Kind of a refuge for those who want to move on and discuss the new era and not be held back by the previous one.

The newest addition to the Survivor family had this to say on survivormusic.com "My thanks to all who came to Waukesha County fair on Friday. You made me feel very welcome and it was great to join with you in singing such great music. I feel honored and privilaged to be part of this new family and look forward to seeing you again soon. May the road rise to meet you, and may the wind be always at your back".

Great words indeed, he is really wanting support of the fans and well from the reviews of the first show I'd say he gets a 8 out of 10. A new era has dawned.. Share your thoughts.

All of the above!!!

But I voted a new album every year.

I'm sure they won't be releasing a new album every year. But now that they have a new singer they should get a new album out with him in 2007, and then I would hope for one every other year, or at least every third year!

That 18 year crap was a bunch of BS! I don't know how they can think that they will be taken seriously if they go that many years without an album?

I know that bands don't make nearly as much money off of albums as they used to, and that most of their money now comes from touring. But look at Mountain's guitarist Leslie West, he hasn't had a hit song since 1970 and he tours like crazy, and yet he puts out at least one new CD every year, sometimes two new CD's a year.

I have a friend who's favorite band is Mountain and his second favorite band is Survivor, and he will always say "if Leslie West can put out that many albums then Survivor have no-excuse for not having a new album out every couple of years!"

Thanks, I like this one too, I'm not even sure were i got the other one, I tihnk Jimi sent me that pic a few months ago..

Anyway, is it just me or do you all wish they'd post a soundclip or something with Robin singing a Survivor song, i'm anxious to hear him sing one. Any speculations on what their going to do for the "Rocky Balboa" soundtrack?

I am sure the band will be in the movie along with BIll C's scores but I just can't help to think what Stallone has to say about Robin being apart of the movie. From what I hear he kicks total... on Fire Makes Steel and Reach. Your thoughts or input please.

I am not so sure. Unless they address to Stallone/the production Co. what the hell has gone on. Then he may ask them to rerecord it or at least overdub McCauley, or he may opt to still use the Jimi vox (which will be a familiar bit of nostalgia for thje Rocky fans).

I tend to think that they will just use the version/s with Jimi singing.

Although Jimi is unhappy about the fact that he was not being paid for his vocal work in the movies.

Survivorfan2005,

Don't feel bad in anyway for supporting Jimi Jamison!

It's obvious that you are a fan of the entire band. And even if you were just a fan of Jimi that's your right too!

I hate it when someone loves Bickler but hates Jamison, or when someone loves Jamison but hates Bickler. But it is clear that you like the whole band, not just Jimi.

Hopefully Robin McCauley will continue the tradition of great Survivor vocalists!

Yeah, I like all of the guys. Survivor is exactly that no matter what the "modern" style is, who is the singer, or if Frankie has an ego or not (if I could play a guitar like that I would..). I like Dave same as Jimi and same as Robin. Eventhough I don't know Robin all that well he is doing his best to bring to the fans and make them happy. I mean, the band could've stayed disbanded back in the late 80's right? As a singer myself, I believe that music is real only if you can feel it and with Survivor, millions do no matter the singer. People just get caught in the game to realize it. 8)

You guys know one way you can get a sample of this new era? Just listen to Robin's CD "Business as Usual" Frankie was a big part of that solo album. Anyone ever hear any of the songs on this album?

survivorfan, I wish someone would send the FMS video that is on utube to Stallone. I think that song really fits. I wouldn't care who sang it, I just like the song. Whoever made put that video together did a really good job, Stallone should see it!

Yea, the film should use FMS if it's a choice between that and Reach. But as I recall, Reach is (Was now for all we know) the leader for inclusuion in the film. I could see Reach playing over the end credits, but Fire Makes Steel is perfect for the training/fight scene montage(s). The training montage should kick off with Sly getting early AM up to the Conti slow lonely man kinda theme, then as he comes out his door as soon as he clicks the door shut, in comes Frankie's first chord of FMS and Sly takes off jogging with smoke coming out as breath....and let it play, baby.

Then a few seconds later when that huge drum smash of Droubay happens that kicks the song up anohther nothch you cut away to Stallone smashing a side a beef in the warehouse at the instant you hear Marc's drum impact.

Me and Dave28 came up with all this, how yiz like it? :D

I am anxious to hear Robin do Survivor songs. Not sure when I'll get a chance to hear them, so some sound clips would be nice. I hope they do a better job updating the site from now on. It sure would be nice to have some bios on there, even though we know about Frankie and Marc, it would be nice to have Chris, Billy and Robin on there, make them look like they are part of the band.
