To my surprise after my long trek it turned out Jimi Jamision and members of his Memphis blood band were in town instead! Does anyone have a clue has to why they would swap gigs? I was furious after making the long trip. I was also ticked because everyone kept calling them Survivor. The guy from local radio station called Jimi the voice of Survivor. It was rediculous. But not as rediculous as the show. Jimi is a great vocalist. No doubt. I think that's consensus on this bulletin board, but he's not what he used to be. The show was AWFUL. It appeared to be thrown together at the last minute. I was in the front row. Jimi had the set list taped to the floor. The band took long breaks in between songs. They made it up as they went along. I can only figure they were last minute replacements. The weak link was the lead guitarist. I don't think he's even a member of Memphis Blood. My god for all of you guys who rip on Frankie, it really showed me how important a talented lead guitarist is to Survivor's music. There were no backing vocals. It was just awful. To top it off at one point during the show Jimi said this next song is off Vital Signs...It was REBEL SON! Then he said during the course of the show he mentioned POOR MAN'S SON, and said oh wait we don't play that one. It was terrible. In Jimi's defense he did the best that he could. He's a great guy. I talked to him after the show and he really wouldn't get into the gig swap. I don't get it. Can someone help me. Why did Survivor and Jimi trade gigs.

Why are people calling Jimi the voice of Survivor. Why are opening acts calling Memphis Blood Survivor. I'm a big fan of the band and Jimi but what happened to me after a 7 hour car ride is no way to treat a fan. I will post Jimi's set list later.

Jimi may be the vocalist for Survivor but he is not the SOUND of Survivor. That was really missed that evening. Once again I will say that Jimi was fine but the band wasn't. I just didn't think it was a professional gig. Having said that I had a good time at Hot August Nights.

Slander, just wondering if you tried to find out who put on this show to see why it was Jamison and not the band?
silvergirl66 wrote:Actually, it's like it was before. JJ is performing with his band and singing Survivor songs, at least he's not calling his band Survivor..........YET! JJ has his set of fans that will follow him anywhere. Then there is Dave. I was a fan of Survivor with Dave in the band. My favorite albums are the first 4, I only like one with JJ singing, VS. But there is also the signature sound of Survivor and the reason we love Survivor and that's Frankie Sullivan AND JP if he was still with them. Without Frankie though we wouldn't have those signature guitar riffs that make Survivor songs different from others. I could listen to any song and tell you if Frankie was playing guitar on it, he's so unique. And, what about the songs, it's the words that touched us all in a different way, not who was singing it. One of the songs I absolutely hate the most is It's the Singer not the song........it's so not true for me. Seems to be only true for JJ fans cause it's the same ol thing I've heard for years now. JJ is the voice of Survivor.....NOT! I wish life was perfect and we could all get what we want. Wouldn't it be nice if JJ, JP, FS, MD, SE and DB could all be back together and all get along? Dave could sing a few, JJ could sing a few, the world would be a happy place again, but it ain't happening. I'm just happy Dave's not out trying to make a living singing Survivor songs too. I have the upmost respect for him. It's not like Dave abandoned Survivor, they are the ones that bailed on him. He's moved on, JJ hasn't. If I was him, I wouldn't have went back for a third time. JJ is the one that bailed this time, it's obvious from the interview. Frankie didn't have much choice, he needed a singer and Robin was who he picked. I'm not saying Robin is the best choice but at least give the guy a chance. I'm willing.

Return to Survivor / Jim Peterik / Toby Hitchcock / Pride Of Lions / Marc Scherer / Sir Jimi (RIP)
