Reach Vs the other cds...

Postby Abitaman » Wed Feb 28, 2007 1:01 pm

Is it me or am I the only one who things Jimi's solo cd Empires, or Survivor's unrleashed Fire Makes Steel, is better than Reach. Gave all my Survivor related stuff a listen to the other week, and Reach (sorry RED) is slowly sinking down the list. Any thoughts-ERIC

If I ranked or graded all the Survivor stuff I had...

SURVIVOR
Eye of the Tiger (B) Good songs but drags a little
Vital Signs (A-) my second favorite Survivor cd
Live in Indianapolis 1984* Good FM broadcast
Live Tokyo 2-9-1985 Another good sounding boot
When Seconds Count (B-) A vital signs want to be
Too Hot to Sleep (A) The CD to beet, my favorite
Greatest Hits (B) Both 90's hits are not that great, but good
Live 1993 La Grange, IL* Pretty good show with Dave on vocals
Live Paducah Kentucky 1995* This show get under my skin at times, and Jimi talking about only getting half of his 15 minutes of fame burns me.
Live 1999 Mohegan Sun* Dave sounds bad here, sick?
Fire Makes Steel Demos* (A-) good songs, production not the best in spots
1980-2000 (hts)* cheap import
Extented versions good to hear official live songs, even in a cheap package
Ultimate Survivor (A) Best of the best stuff
Reach (B) Some good songs, too much filler
Live in Kansas City 8-11-06 [new lead singer]* still don't know if I like Robin

JIM JAMISON (Survivor, Target, Cobra)
Have Mercy Demos Some good songs that showed up later
When Love Comes Down (B) some good songs, below average production
Demos 1999-2000* some of same demos as above
Empires (A-) really good, should have been the nest Survivor cd.
Cobra-First Strike (C) Not bad, but not that good either

JIM PETERIK (Survivor)
World Stage (A) Almost an A+, Eye of the tiger remake too it a way

PRIDE OF LIONS
Pride of Lions (B) was to keen on the group on the first outing, something is missing
Live in Paris 11-12-03 Okay cd, poor audience recording doesn't help
The Destiny Stone (A-) Better with this cd, more of a "fresh" classic sound (if that is possible :D )

Hey, man.
I DO love Reach, but I will agree it's NOT as good as Vital Signs and especially the masterpiece Too Hot To Sleep.
Eye I have 3 behind those 2 and the rest I just like a lot.

It was a used cd I got off ebay. Cover art and that was kinda chessy, and the music covered only the Jimi area and his solo cd When Love comes down. I don't remember off the top of my head if there was any unreleased songs, I don't think there was. I remember seeing it in stores many years ago.-ERIC

Yeah, I'll agree. I prefer Empires to Reach. I don't tend to listen to albums in their entirety very often (haha considering the genre is AOR! LOL) because I put stuff on my MP3 player then I put it on random. So I will listen to my Survivor/Jimi playlist on random and you never know what you're going to get and in what order.

There are songs on Reach that I ADORE (One More Chance) but on the whole I love almost all the songs on Empires (less the Baywatch theme... never could get into that one).

And Jimi's voice was in a bit better form on Empires. I like the raspiness on Reach, but I prefer the crystal clear voice when he showcases it.

I'm with RedJoe on this one. Jimi is my favourite male vocalist.

Seconds Away is my favorite ballad that i've heard of Survivor.. Allthough, I tend to like Dave's version, just a tad bit more that Jimi's (he does a most excellent job though).
Which one do you all prefer?

Use to have it on record, well still do, somewhere, but no record player to put on computer then to cd :( , been at least 10 years since I listened to it. Also have Eye of the tiger on record, but made a copy on tape then eventually to cd. Have about 30 tapes waiting to be transferred to cd, but my tape player broke a few days after the first of the year.-ERic
