Jesus, Eye.

Couldn't you have fit a couple MORE ballads on there?

Now, Now Red...first of all...let me say how nice it is to have Joe Pa back....

Then let's see...

. Nothing Can Shake Me (starts like a Ballad, but come on man this is a bad ass song with great guitar and Bickler was never better)
2. Take You on a Saturday - Not a Ballad
3. Chevy Nights - Semi Ballad
4. I'm Not that Man Anymore - Yes Ballad in a way, but I love the guitar riff at the beginning....it's heavy....as his Bickler smoking vocals on NOOOOO
5. Silver Girl - Ballad, but I just love the guitar that starts this song....they were never better...
6. Ever Since the World Began - pure ballad...almost left it off...but i like it...
7. I Never Stopped Loving You - pure ballad, but maybe the most overated Survivor song ever
8. Jackie Don't Go - Not a Ballad
9. Broken Promises - Not a ballad
10. Too Hot To Sleep = Not a ballad
11. Can't Let You go - In the middle....but at least i didn't put in In good faith....

So where is your list?

One thing Red, you say your favorite linup with the Vital Signs/WSC lineup of Marc, Stephen, Frankie, Jimi and JP...would you not agree that is the era where the band was practically one big ballad...or at the least very pop heavy...

I mean..compare Nothing Can Shake me or even Somewhere in America to say How much Love...hard to tell it's even the same band...

Don't get me wrong...VS and WSC are great albums and I could listen to them for a year straight, but...

Santa Ana Winds
Jackie Don't Go
The One that Really Matters
Everlasting Love
Broken Promises
Man Against the World (was that one a hit?)
Runway Lights
One More Chance
Popular Girl

No, I would not agree. I think that is a lot of propoganda put out by Jamison rippers.
I think there's as much rock in the Jamo era as the Bickler. Some of them are more "polished," I guess but otherwise it's a misnomer.

Mine:
The One That Really Matters
Hesitation Dance
Nothing Can Shake Me
Popular Girl
Broken Promises
Burning Bridges
Hungry Years
Fire Makes Steel
Oceans
Can't Let You Go (and I see nothing ballady about this. Love song yes, ballad no)

Well I'm not a Jamison ripper, but I think it has a lot to do with the way the band went. Not as much Vital Signs, but WSC featured so much keyboard. Actually in all fairness it was mainly the songs that they released off that album...By the way I think JJ's voice was very capable of rocking...ie - Too Hot to Sleep and Can't Give it up....

You've made me desire to rethink my postions and go look at it song to song...

Vital Signs -

1. Can't Hold Back - Very close to a ballad and pretty pop. Was a pop hit. I love this song...the guitar at the first...great stuff...
2. High On You - The definition of pop...a hit, but in no way one of my favorites...
3. First Night - Good song...POP
4. The Search is Over - Very pop, very ballad...
5. Broken Promises - This song rocks...
6. Popular Girl - It rocks some...put pretty pop
7. Everlasting - Pop Ballad, but strong song...
8. It's The Singer Not The Song - Near filler...pop
9. I See You In Everyone - Good song...great song on the Live album...

WSC

1. How Much Love - The most pop they ever got....hit, but not one of my favs..
2. Keep It Right Here - Good song..but pop
3. Is This Love - See How Much Love
4. Man Against the World - Great song...but a ballad....
5. Rebel Son - I like this song...but it's not power rock...
6. Oceans - Okay song...word is Empires was a throwaway in the early stages of writing this song...or that's what Frankie said...
7. When Seconds Count - Okay
8. Backstreet Love Affair - Great song...closes thing, along with song 10 to rocking on the album...
9. In Good Faith - BALLAD and POP with a capital B and P
10. Can't Let You Go - Rocks...

I wasn't even saying they did anything wrong...

I mean compare 38 Special's late 70's stuff like Rockin Into the Night, to their late 80's only number one hit Second Chance...music changed...

Sorry, bro I wanted to also post that I know you're a down-the-middle guy not a Jamo ripper.

the bottom line is I can't stand ballads and I ripped you for having 4 ballads on your list. :D

Indeedio. Fuckin EYE is so strong an album that the brilliant, quintissential title track might be about the 5th or 6th best song on the record.

I'd go as far as to say that it might be the most overlooked album in the history of rock...The fact it's not more regarded just amazes me...I mean it had the title track going for it....and that got people to buy it and listen (like me). Man I was in the fifth grade and I fell in love with that album from front to back...to this day, I can still listen and listen....

With that strong an album with that strong a single, I bet if they had been on a label that new how to promote, there is no telling how big this band could have been....

1. Santa Ana Winds
2. Summer Nights (the long version)
3. Runway Lights
4. Ever Since the World Began
5. First Night (live version--esp the mix on Indianapolis 1984....much more rock and much less pop)
6. Desperate Dreams
7. Man Against the World
8. When Seconds Count
9. Chevy nights
10. Feels Like Love

very close (just to up the rock ante!)....Can't Let You Go, Burning Bridges, Nothing Can Shake Me, Didn't Know It Was Love

as far as the Jamison-era pop discussion goes, part of it is the songs were definitely more pop. That being said, the production makes the When Seconds Count album sound considerably more pop than the songs are. For the Bickler-era, the production was guitar-dominated with keyboards. For Jamison, keyboard-dominated with guitars. You can throw the pop/rock balance seriously one way or the other with production. Too Hot to Sleep goes a LONG way to evening the balance with the most-rocking album since Eye of the Tiger.

Fire Makes Steel landed on JoePa's list!

I thought about it, but the only one from Reach that made it on my list was "One More Chance". Man, I love that song. I know Jamo was quoted as saying Seconds Away was his favourite track off the album, but I'm not crazy about it.

As for Talkin Bout Love... I'm really still trying to accept Frankie as a lead vocalist. It's weird. Not bad, just weird. LOL

Hmmm. Several people have picked "Oceans". I haven't heard it yet. I don't have WSC yet... just downloaded the hits. I'll be buying that one next.

Incredible song...I know, and respect that Eye thinks it's too poppy but I love it.
Killer guitars, maybe the pop label comes from it being a little 80s keyboardy at the outset.

Lyrical message about trying to rescue a relationship going wrong works good.
Chorus kicks ass.

Nice to have our stations theme song... lol :P I don't know if i told you all or not but I have been working with band to try and get them record a new version of the song w/ Rob for our station. I hope I can get them too.. it'll be most excellent.

BTW: I still have no idea why they don't play songs like "Oceans" and "Backstreet Love Affair" live... Those songs rock!

OH YEAH!! COME TO MAMA!

JK. Seriously though, that song kicks some SERIOUS ass. I love it. It's in my top ten non-hits for sure. I will knock out Popular Girl to make room for it. No wait. Jackie Don't Go.
