The Survivor Sound always works with great Backing Vocals. Which guys do you like ?
I think the combintion with Sullivan and Peterik always was the best. But there was other combinations like
on the " Caught in the game " Album with Kevin Cronin or Richard Page ...

Mickey Thomas provides the hook in I SEE YOU IN EVERYONE! WOW. I would have had no problems with him singing leads for Survivor.

Good call, Slander. Kevin Chalfant has also supplied background vox for Survivor in the past. In fact, they have quite a repoitoire of great singers working behind the scenes for them...and of course, Jimi has done it for a crapload of bands.

I think it's actually a big giant harmony Thomas does on that Vital Signs track...just leaps out totally unmistakeable. I SEE YOU IN EVERY WWWAAAHHHUUUUUUNNN!!!!!!

Peter Wolf does some keys and synths on the record and REO's Kevin Cronin and Styx's Tommy Shaw might add some BG vox too, unless that's on Caught In The Game.

JOPA. I've said it time and time again; Jimi is a great vocalist.

True. Not as gifted as Beddie Wetter or Corky Cobain, but talented nonetheless.

I liked EOTT album harmonizing the best. So backing vocals of Fergie will do nicely for me. Yes, its the very same Fergie who did Toto's lead on tunes like Angel Don't Cry, Lion, etc from Isolation.

Mickey Thomas best with JJ's vocals, IMO.

Meanwhile, FS and JP doing backing is the complete package. Sigh.

See I think the 2 Frankie lead vox on Reach are 2 of the best songs on it.
Like Shaw or Lukather he's a guitarist who's blessed with a damn good lead vocal quality singing voice. It's his live BG vox that are too over-the-top for me. Turn down his mic and we're gold.

JOPA, TBL is the best song on Reach! I would like to see Frankie sing lead on a song or two just for variety. What do you think of his blues samples? I had a chance to see Frankie play the blues in 1986. It was great. Jason and the Scorchers were touring with Survivor and they couldn't fly into Spokane, WA because of bad weather. Frankie and some of the guys prentened to be a band called "Spleen." Frankie played the blues and it was great.

Jiimi should have done the vocs on TBL. It could have charted in Europe and Japan.

"The Best Song On Reach" mantle is still occupied by Fire Makes Steel in my house. I've heard Frankie playing the blues and it's awesome. Coming from Chicago, being the caliber of guitarist he is, how could it be otherwise?

On the subject of TBL, I thought I saw an ancient You tube video of TBL from back in the 80's. Was it recorded prior to Reach?

 How COULD it have been?
We all read Frankie's post on the site that time, right?

JOPA it was not an old video. Someone put together a new video using clips from old videos.

Yes, I know KevCat ( ) but the fact remains, like HALF or Reach had been written long before, UNlike Frankie said would be the case.

You are so right!!! I stand corrected!

However, I am sure (bet my life on it) that I saw it on You Tube, an early 80's cheesy video. I have looked but am not that good at searching You Tube.

I don't think so, it was FS singing, however, I can't find it and couldn't tell you how I found it in the first place. I believe I clicked on a you tube link on this site and TBL was a tag, so I clicked it (thinking, hoping, praying that it was NEW) and it was old, real old.

Hmmm. I remember the video but I don't remember Frankie. I also think the song was co-written by Chris or Billy.

Reach credits it as being cowritten by Grove. (who would have been in his late teens and not even connected to Survivor at period of the video on You Tube). Possibly a fake or maybe FS and Grove changed a couple of lines, rerecorded with a new song writing credit. Anythings possible.
