The Band Reporter Is Back

Postby Slander » Tue Jun 12, 2007 1:21 am

It was great to hear from Frankie in the new band note. It was great to hear from him after so long. Just as I thought the DWTS appearance was a big hit and also opened doors for the group. You can read in Frankie's words that 2007 has been a year of personal growth for the band. Robin and the guys sound like they are clicking on all cylinders. I have no doubt that will be reflected in a new record. I am excited about where this band is going. I for one am looking forward to what the year brings. I hope you all will join me in supporting Frankie and the guys in making 2007 their best year ever.

The year has brought more tour dates than in previous years and a national tv appearance. I'd say that's a good half year. I understand that doesn't meet your standards. I know you want a double live cd, a studio album, an appearance on Leno, an appearance on MTV TRL, plus an epsiode of VH-1 Behind The Music. I know they don't meet these standards but it appears by the bands calender that they are plenty busy.

they have typically been a "summer touring band". I am searching my saved files for their schedule in summer of 2004 and 2005 to compare to summer of 2007. I do not think they are any busier in 2007 than they were say in 2005, as a matter of fact I think they have less shows booked to date by comparison. I think it is funny that FS spoke more about his workout than the band.

Here's the scintillating, in-depth, eye-opening, excitement-enducing post.
Warning: Be sitting down when reading. That means YOU, EyeOf. :D

6/10/07 - Checking In...

Dear Friends…

I am back for a second after passing the job over to Robin. Once in a while I get the urge to write you all and so this was one of those times I cannot no resist!

We have been busy! Everything in our world was turned over by a day with the “Dancing With The Stars” Show! What an amazing bunch of folks they have over there. Everyone we met was top notch and filled with class and know-how. That makes it easier which makes it fun for all of us to do our jobs and move onward. That be said…

I am sitting in a van with the guys on or way to do the Temecula Show tonight. We played The Northern Lights Theatre in Milwaukee on Thursday and spent yesterday traveling to Los Angeles where we will base ourselves out of for the next few days. I would love to just park myself in Los Angeles for a couple of weeks but this band reporter has to be in NYC by Thursday. That leaves me enough time to stop at home, get some clean clothing and head back out to the airport.

Things have come a long way since the inception of Robin. The band gets better and better each show and he takes it all in stride like a true professional. I am so darn happy that he is around and was out there when the time came for the big switch. We scored a three pointer + with Robin. Lets just say we are all very happy and pleased. From the response we’ve get live its seems you obvious all agree! Thanks for that one…

Since we began this three-day 6K Mile Run of dates I haven’t had any time to do a workout. I got the last one in with my trainer the day before I left for the shows. Still, today I feel a bit odd and guilty for not being able to hit the gym. Oh well, that time will be here again soon enough. Perhaps I should simply enjoy the break from those grueling workouts.

I miss you guys! Feels like I need to get back on here and write you all more notes to let you know where we and I are at from time to time. I was simply so relieved to have Robin eager to jump into the spot after no one ever wanting to do so before now. It is a good pass of the torch but it doesn’t need to be permanent. After all, what is?

So we will take the stage here in Temecula in about an hour and a half and do what we do. It’s hot down here and that makes it just perfect for a Rock N’ Roll Show! I will be sure to makeup for the missed workouts on stage keeping up with the other guys and the fine folks out front. I am glad to have stopped by to say hello and look forward to seeing you all soon. Thanks you for the support and belief in Survivor. The fire still burns…

Fast Forward –

We are back from the weekend of shows I wrote about above. They were capped out with a record crowd of 7K plus in Woodland Hills California! That’s a great way to end any run of dates…

Now, with all that I’ve written above before the shows I forgot to post what can I say? These things happen in this life and the journey takes us in many directions. I hope you are all well and thank you for you’re believe and backing. This is a lucky band having one of the best summers since 1987 all do to you. Take care and I will be back soon enough.

7 did you have a dominatrix with the last named McAuley or Sullivan? Did she or he put your dog collar on too tight? That is the only explanation I have for the reason you choose to spew such venom? It really is unfortunate. I'm sorry you have been emotionally scarred from such a trauamatic event.

Lark a very short portion of the note talked about excerscise. Damn you guys can't contain youselves. They have been on the road more. It isn't even up for discussion. Why don't you just support the band.

Well now that you mention it, Sman I DO want a double-live album. Compile one from recent tours have 4-5 Dave-sung songs, 4-5 Jimi-sung ones and 2-3 Robins including Reach and Fire Makes Steel.

Disc 2 could be Frankie's guitar solo.

Wouldn't that be great? I for one had the opportunity to see Frankie play the blues one night. Super stuff. I consider myself a relatively sane person. Am I losing my mind but when I look at their schedule it appears they are playing mored dates and in more areas. There even playing two shows in my neck of the woods in August. I'm going to both.

I would have to say they are playing more shows this year than they have for a long time. At least the last two or three years.

Thank you silver. I have followed their tours for years. It appears they are playing dates more frequently. I didn't think I was losing my mind. You are going to have to fill me in on the alligator sometime.

This from a blog about the free Survivor concert. This person didn't know Survivor did "Search" but had this to say about it:

quote
Today, we dropped by Warner Center Park in nearby Woodland Hills, because Survivor was in concert! I was only familiar with a couple of songs they wrote--Eye of the Tiger and Burning Heart, of course--but then I found out that they also sang Search is Over (this song was AWESOME, live). The concert, as a whole, was great; of course, they ended with Eye of the Tiger! The concert, as a whole, was great; of course, they ended with Eye of the Tiger!

unquote

I always thought Robin did "Search" well, but nothing like a person who had no clue who did the original tune, say it was AWESOME. Nice!

PM me if you want the blog addy.

Grove's terrific.
I can't hear the difference on the live shows I have between him and Peterik (a good thing) and I thought his Reach work very up-to-date and more pleasantly subtle than Peterik was at times. Plus I think he cowrote at least 1 song on Reach (Gimme The World? Which is one of the best).

Definately the right dude for that important job.
