Survivor concert in Akron Ohio on July 4th

Postby Journey/Survivor » Sat Jul 07, 2007 8:36 am

Just thought I'd give a very brief review of my own on the Survivor show this past 4th of July.

The band played 11 songs total, I can't remember the exact order that they played them in but I will name the songs that they played.

They opened with "Reach"
then they played "Burning Heart" second.

They also played "Poor Man's Son"
"Summer Nights"
"Take You On A Saturday"
"I Can't Hold Back"
"High On You"
"The Search Is Over"
"Burning Bridges"
"Fire Makes Steel"

And they closed with "Eye Of the Tiger"

Frankie played a couple of short solos as well, and Chris played a keyboard solo.

Robin did a great job and keeps getting better and better all the time, and he does a great job of interacting with the fans. I spoke with him briefly before the show and he's really great with the fans!

Frankie really impressed me and the rest of the crowd by recovering quickly after falling over backward on the stage. They were playing "Take You On a Saturday" and Frankie had just started into the guitar solo, he started walking backward and he fell over a monitor and some cables. He fell hard on his back, but after only a second or two he continued on with the solo while laying on his back and played note for note.

Frankie seemed to be having a good time, and he seemed to really enjoy playing in this band with it's current lineup!

Seriously, they were short solos. I actually prefered when he would play longer solos, but then again I'm a guitarist myself...so...

The longest solo of the night that he played was no more than 5 minutes long at the absolute longest, maybe not even 5 minutes?

Thanks for pointing those out!

I think I spotted the back of my head in the crowd a couple of times?

I was mostly dead ahead of Robin in the first row.

Is there anyway of downloading those clips? Any time that I have ever tried to download something off of youtube it has never worked.

Any tips would be appreciated!!!

You need a plug-in for your Browser to download the videos and after downloading a program to convert the files from .flv to mp4 or .mov or .avi or whatever you want.

Judging from the clips on YouTube this band is energized. They sound great! I look forward to seeing them when they visit my area and I can't wait until the new record later this year.

Time to change that setlist up, fellows.

Leave the Reach material but rotate BH and BB in and out and ditch the others. Same thing as every setlist I've seen since McCGoCommado came aboard.

It's clear that the band is firing on all cylinders. What energy. Great sound. Hopefully that will transfer onto the new disc. I for one thought Reach lacked energy. Mcauley has truly brought an element they have been missing.

OK.

But one of the parting shots tossed at Jamisons' heels on his way out (from Droubay in an interview) was "Now we don't have to play the same setlist for 5 years in a row."

Well, what're they only gonna stop at 4 years in a row w/ McNoUnderwear? Same songs for over a year now.

amen! two of my least favorite songs in the catalog. WSC almost killed Survivor.

Yeah, releasing 0 albums in 18 years had nothing to do with that.

Not an assault on you, Slander. Just a statement about the band.

touchet! Very true. WSC just didn't fit where the sound was going in music at the time.

Agreed. Some good songs, but a little to "poppy" for a rock-oriented band.

BTW - WTF is up with Peterik's obsession with "backstreet(s)"? He used that word in seven different songs in four years!

Rising Up back on the street-Eye of Tiger
Backstreet Love Affair-WSC
on the backstreets lookin' so pretty-She's A Star
Out in the street-I see you in everyone
hearts are burning on the boulevard (ok not street)-American Heartbeat
sneaking down the backstreets-As Soon as love finds me
The street lights reveal-Rhythm of the City

Just a few. I have always wondered what his obsession is with the city, streetlights, streets, boulevard. My only guess is imagery. He must have been a huge fan of noir.

Yuck! This song represents the transition of a group dedicated to rock n' roll to absolute cheese and cabaret.

damn straight! LOL. Hardly Jamo's fault. He's not a song writer. He merely sang what he was given.
