New Band Note

Postby Slander » Wed Jul 18, 2007 1:28 am

There's a new band note on Survivormusic.com. I get my wish. It sounds like Robin will performing some MSG stuff too! Frickin awesome. Adding "Anytime" Or "Love Is Not A Game" would add punch. What do you guys think?

Hello Again
“Keep your eyes on the road your hands upon the wheel”!! sound familar?
Well we just got back from ten days on the bus and had a blast seeing you all in Alabama, Iowa, Idaho, Mi, and visiting Chicago on our way through.
Meeting old and new friends is such a learning and uplifting experience. Thanks for all you support as always.
It will be one whole year this July 21st since I joined forces with this great band and had the chance to meet most of you. I'm still ironing out some glitches but hopefully the songs are still more or less how you remember them but with a little twist and newer flavour.
We plan to add a bunch more tunes to the list including a couple of mine from the MSG days, so stay tuned for that.
Talk to you all again soon and keep the faith.
luv you guys
Robin

No way. Uh uh.

Too many great Survivor songs that need to be played.

No need for McSideProjectSongs in the setlist.

Wow I can't disagree more. I think it adds to the fan base. It's that simple. It doesn't take away Survivor. MSG had quite a following. To disregard Robin's accomplishments is selfish.

I don't mind them doing it. But if its going to delay them writing new tunes, THAT would be disappointing. Meanwhile, when I say I don't mind it is due to the fact that JP and his POL project, doing Survivor tunes, there should be allowance for MSG stuff since Robin is there. After all, as far as I know Robin had a part in writing those MSG tunes.

Besides, I prefer less of Reach stuff and let Marc slams those skins harder due to MSG tunes, why not?

Oh yes, I am biased on Marc. Louder, harder the BETTER!

Well, they should limit it to just two max of MSG tunes. Hope they don't do a whole slew of them, then it will become less productive,IMO.

They're only playing 10-12 songs as it is.

Jamo's solo efforts are frequently put down here, but I had never even HEARD of McCauley until he took over in Survivor.

The following can't be that big.

But it can add to it for sure. I mean MSG with Robin had a top ten hit once. So there are likely some following. I would wager that some people requested it.

Frankly, I didn't hear of Robin with MSG before, but hits are hits. It could arguably work.

Red I'm sorry but Jamo's solo albums do not compare to the popularity of MSG. No slam on Jimi but that's the honest to god's truth.

Red, go to YOUTUBE and start digging up some MSG tunes. The band was quite successful. Pop metal if you will, but some of the stuff really cooks. It would really be great to hear Frankies guitar soar and Marc hit the drums on some of these songs. Serioulsy.

Nope.

Apparently I am remiss but I'd never even heard of him/MSG until Andrew's piece explained where he came from.

And I sure as HELL don't want to hear songs from MSG at a Survivor show any more than I want to hear Jamison roll out Rock Hard with Survivor.

Not with this band's cannon of great songs.

Wow. Van Halen had a great catalogue but damn it I wanted to hear sammy sing there's only one way to rock and heavy metal. Robin brings a lot to the frickin' table and it's time his abilities are respected. I for one am sick of this nonsense.

LOL, it's not nonsense.
I do respect the MSG accomplishments, I just don't want to hear them at a Survivor show.
If I want to hear something non-Survivor with McCauley I'd just as soon they play Come On Feel The Noise. It'd make a hell of a lot more sense to me. :P

I'd rather Van Halen play only Van halen and Survivor play only Survivor.

Survivor has a lot in its arsenal I just think it's a waste not to expand their plan of attack.

wow...Van Halen played Heavy Metal...I never heard that...Heard I Can't Drive, One Way to Rock, Eagles Fly, Give to Live, but don't remember Heavy Metal...

I loved when Halen played the Hagar stuff, but let's be honest Hagar was a little more intwined in VH, plus his stuff rocks...

I don't care what Survivor plays, just don't play Reach with McAuley...

Red, I'm with you have to admit I know a lot of music, but other than Frankie going on about him when they did that record, I'd never heard of him...

Cum on Feel the Noise...awesome...they should play that...and Heavy Metal...which by the way...Peterik wrote....

Hey Eye, I saw Sammy when he first joined vh and he was playing some of his stuff. Robin is no longer new, he has been there are year. I don't understand the harm of playing a couple of MSG songs or a couple of Robin's songs off Business As Usual. Afterall Frankie produced that album.

For me it´s very simple. When I go to watch a concert of Survivor I don´t want them playing songs of another Band. It´s Survivor and not Survivor + MSG. And it wasn´t Survivor + Jimi Jamison before it was just Survivor.

The lack of open minds and willingness to try anything new astounds me. Good rock and roll is good rock and roll. I think the reaction here is just more of the same effort to discredit Robin. It really saddens me. Robin is a talent and needs to be recognized as such. Yes I want to see Survivor. I have been a fan of the band since Premontion. I do however recognize that Robin brings his own catalogue to the table. If he has a couple of songs that can add some spice to the set list I'm all for it.

I first heard of Robin Mcauley back in the late 80's when "Anytime" was a hit song.

My friend and former neighbor is a big MSG fan. I had already heard "Anytime" but I remember him also playing the song for me at the time because he thought being a huge Survivor, Journey and Bad English fan I would really like the song, which I do.

That friend of mine is also the person who told me about the Robin Mcauley CD "Buisness As Usual" when it was first released in the 90's.

I heard that Survivor might include a song or two from the "Business As Usual" CD in their set list. At least in that case Frankie was the guitarist on those songs in the first place unlike the MSG stuff.

I don't have a problem with them playing "Anytime" except that it means thats one less Survivor song for them to play each night.

MSG was a very successful band, and a song like "Anytime" might go over well with the more casual Survivor fans?

Robin Mcauley actually is somewhat of a big name singer from his years in MSG.

Sorry I call bullshit. Many of you are living in the past and don't want to go forward. I get really sick of Frankie did this blah blah blah blah. I'm sorry you guys don't like the fact that Robin acutally had a nice resume before Survivor. The band is fortunate to have some of his caliber to step in for Jamo. Is it so unreasonable that Robin would want to sing a couple of songs that were hits for him? Seriously get over yourselves.

J/S thank you so much for this. I am shocked by the negative feedback. MSG had a nice following. Anytime was top ten hit on Billboards mainstream rock chart back in 1990. It's a great song. So is Love Is Not A game. Frankie produced Robin's solo album. There's some good stuff on their if people are willing to give it a spin. I for one think the band is fortunate to have a person as capable as Robin to step in and take over for Jamo.

Yeah, I have the "Business As Usual" CD, it's a pretty good album, I like it a lot, and Frankie plays some great guitar on it!
It was originally intended to be a new band project when they recorded it, but it was later released as a Mcauley solo album instead.
