Jimi Jamison "STILL" has it !

:D For the fans of melodic rock ! Jimi Jamison was and will always be the true voice of Survivor. People on this board want him to sound as if it was 1984 all over again . Jimi is almost 60 years old ! In 2007 you can put Lou Gramm , Eddie Money , Rod Stewart , Steve Perry and John Wetton in concert and have them play all their classic hits live and Jimi Jamison would still blow them all away. I have heard and seen all of them enough times to realize this.

Survivor was not successful until Eye Of The Tiger ! I understand all the fans loving Dave Bickler and the old sound of Survivor but that sound and style of music wasn't breaking through with bands like Foreigner , Boston , Eddie Money Loverboy and Journey controlling the air waves . It was the power ballad type of rock that captured the audience and Jim Peterik was responsible for that sound.

People say that Jimi Jamison is at 75% I"d like to disagree ! Reach was not a good record by the standards of Vital Signs and When Seconds Count . Too Hot To Sleep was a awesome cd but it got no airplay in the USA.

Has anyone heard of RPM Concerts? Check out the cd if you can find it and listen to Jimi sing High On You , The Search Is Over and Eye Of The Tiger and then tell me he can't sing anymore. Jimi is also on a Tribute To Larry Finch cd doing a different version of Eye Of The Tiger .

Come Dancing is a cool tune that Peterik penned and Jimi sounds great on it. It isn't a full throttle rock song it is a country style ballad . Why is that bad ? Survivor will never again have a hit song on the radio in the USA and that is sad to say but nevertheless true.

Survivor to me was Burning Heart , The Search Is Over , I Can't Hold Back, Rebel Son , Is this Love , & High On You and I wanna hear Jamo singing them and Peterik playing them !

Jimi Jamison is my #1 favorite singer of all time, with some of my next favorite being Steve Perry, Lou Gramm, Dave Bickler, Joe Lynn Turner, Mike Reno and Paul Rodgers.

Obviously Jimi has lost some of his range, but as you pointed out he's in his late 50's, and ALL Rock singers are going to lose some range as they get older.

Jimi STILL has great soul to his singing and he's still better than 99% of the singers out there. I think Jimi still has a lot more left to his voice than Steve Perry, and I'm almost as big of a Steve Perry fan. Lou Gramm has also lost a lot in recent years, but in his defense he did have MAJOR health problems, and major surgery, so it's completely understandable that he wouldn't be able to sing like he used to!

I do think that Dave Bickler deserves a lot of credit though as having been a huge part of Survivor!
Frankie and Jim were even more important to the Survivor sound than Jimi, and thats coming from one of the biggest Jamison fans in the world. Jimi brought in a whole new group of fans of the band, but I can also tell you that there are a hell of a lot of people who prefer Dave over Jimi. They both are great singers, and Survivor is lucky to have had both of them in the band.

Even though I am a slightly bigger fan of Jimi's singing over Dave's I prefered when Survivor had that raw and Rocking street sound that they had in the Bickler days of the band, although THTS somewhat brought back that sound and ranks in a 2-way tie with CITG as my favorite Survivor album.

We all know Jimi Rocks.. but we also know that SURVIVOR still can make a top ten song... They have that potential if they would just get into the studio :P

Psssst: Bulldog, Slander generally usually only favors this type of exaggerated hyperbole when speaking of Frankie Mutt Lange Sullivan. And especially if you do it about Jimi Jamison, Slander brings the sarcasm out. :)

Slander, let me save you a few minutes and type your reply:

 It's never fun, though when you roll this exact line of utter bullshit out about Sullivan and someone asks what in the hell survivor has actually DONE since 1988.

Then we get the "I'm sick of the Frankie bashing shite that goes on here. You know damn well Survivor doing well now.

They're up to 4 shows a month now, counting cancellations, Frankie's producing, he made a non-survivor album with McCauley years ago, AND they have an entire album of 10-year old demos out that you can get if you want to break the law, in addition to Reach, the new studio album that you can get if you live in Europe or Japan.
Now.
You Jimi fans tell me,
What has Jamo done?"

I've never sugar coated the production. I've laid out exactly what he has done in the past. I think you continue to understate what the band has accomplished. Survivor has played more dates this year than in recent years.

Okay where to begin. First of all Bulldog or Jimi i appreciate your loyalty to one of rocks great vocalists. For those of you who for some reason think I don't like Jimi you are mistaken. I consider I Can't Hold Back a rock n' roll classic right there with Tiger. It's a masterpiece. Jimi's also one hell of a nice guy! That's been noted over and over. Hell maybe it can't be said enough. A talent and a nice guy.

Survivor was not successful until Eye Of The Tiger?????? Wow what a load of crap. They were an up and coming band that was on their way. It was a matter of time. Premonition was a great sophomore effort. It's a cult favorite. It also had a top 40 hit "Poor Man's Son". Summer Nights was also a nice follow up. Survivor was not huge but they were successful and had just started to develop a following. I'd say Premonition was successful. Was it a blockbuster? No. But it paved the way for Tiger. It was the friggin record Stallone heard that got him interested in the band.

Yes I have heard of the RPM concerts and the singers associated with them. What a talented group of individuals. I love JLT, Mike Reno, John Cafferty. They are great. When was the last time any of these folks had top ten records? When? When was JP's last top 10 record? When was the last time Jamo even put out a solo record let alone a top ten? In all of their defense they and Survivor can not get radio airplay anymore. It's a damn shame but that's the way of music industry. When was the last time Journey, Def Leppard, Styx, Foreigner had a top 10 single? Bulldog I understand you are trying to insult Survivor but it doesn't work. It's a different radio world we live in. It's not 1985. It's 2007. I hold at hopes that Survivor could still have a nice a/c single. Chicago and REO got a little adult contemparary airplay with their latest efforts.

I'm glad Survivor for you is just the JJ era but the group has always been bigger than one singer. It says a lot that FS and JP penned songs that 2 singers could turn into hits. That's not a knock against Dave or Jimi but the fact is they were surrounding by great talent.

Before I go I will leave you with this: Survivor paved the way to be successful long before JJ. It all started in 1977. It was a commitment to excellence by both Sullivan and Peterik. They had the right thing at the right time. Stallone heard it and the rest was history. Stallone heard the street edge sound and the voice of one Mr. Dave Bickler. Sorry the facts are the facts.
