Bootlegs yes or no, good or bad

Postby IngoK » Thu Oct 04, 2007 11:07 pm

This was partly discussed in another topic, but maybe we can go more deep.

I love to collect items of my favorite band, doesn´t matter if official material (for which I pay, of course) or Bootlegs. In my opinion bootlegs helps promote a band. Especially when the band doesn´t release anything over a longer period or if someone don´t know "shall I go to the concert?" or "shall I buy the CD?"

I´m definately against "taking away money" from the artists for things for which they deserve to be paid. I collected (I believe) every compilation which was released from Survivor for which normally is no use because I (probably like the most of you) have all single albums but I want to have it complete.

What is your opinion about Bootlegs?

They're good for a fan like me.

One who loves the band and will buy EVERYTHING they deign to put out anyway, but are so starved for material.

JoePa you will be surprised to hear we agree on this. I do this on an artist to artist basis. When your thirsty you will take a drink a water. I do have some boots. I guess it makes me a hypocrite. I will say this if I could buy them I would. Crap I shelled out 50 bucks for CITG before it was released on cd in the states. I think it's important we support melodicrock music buy PURCHASING any new discs we can. I bought all 3 PRIDE OF LIONS efforts when they were released. I also understand how an artist can feel by having his or her or their music ripped off. It's not fair.

the funny thing is that according to an interview with Frankie that i once heard, they don't make anything off the $50 CITG overseas....I even heard him tell the fans don't waste that kind of money...Of course, you are like me i know that the scond that stuff was available on a CD you were going to get it...

Off the subject, I have a very, very hard time getting into POL...The first one was okay, but it's a little over the top for me...you know?

I personally have no problem with bootlegs. I usually only will download only stuff that isn't commercially available. I usually will only download live shows. If I do download a commercially available album,it's before it's actually released and then I listen to see if I want to buy it. Example...I had the Paul Stanley album 2 months before it was released,I also own a copy of it.

Eyeof....Do you have the Live DVD/CD of POL? Well worth the investment because POL is a much heavier sound than on their albums.
Their live show is a better judgement than the slick studio production. They aren't as refined, plus you get to hear if they can really play that stuff.

Eyeof. Peterik is a terrific songwriter. I love the production. But I do agree with you to an extent. While Toby has got great pipes it is way over the top sometimes for my taste. It's almost Broadway. POL though definetly has a Survivor vibe to it though. In fact I think some of the songs were meant for Survivor albums. [

Slander, i was never thinking about Broadway when I heard Pride of Lions before you said this. But frankly spoken you´re a "little" bit right about it. But I also have to say that I like their Albulms very much. have all of them.

To the Bootlegs: I would make a difference between a live bootleg and an official released recording. With live recordings I had never a problem but with official release that´s a part I wouldn´t download.

I own all three POL albums as well. The first one I think is best. It is great to hear what "were" to be Survivor tunes recorded and sung by Toby. I would like to be Toby reigned in a bit. Sometimes he is a bit too theatrical for my taste. Way to theatrical. Having said that, Toby is an incredible talent-let's make that clear. I don't want to be accused of trashing his amazing abilities. Toby reminds me a bit of Mariah Carey (you read right). Back in the day remember when Mariah used to over do it withe her screech? She has pulled back. I would like to hear Toby pull back and sing with more grit. Just my opinion. Regardless I will be buying the fourht POL album.

POL are great, but definately not Survivor. I will buy their fourth Album too. It was fantastic to see Toby singing with Jimi "Burning Heart" at the Worldstage Event in Belgium.

Hey Silver,

Is Dave working on something now? It would be great to have a new disc from him. Years ago I used to visit his website.

I own a lot of boots, but it is stuff you can not buy as an offical release. If you can buy it I will. I lost all my offical Robert Plant cds, and a few others. Yes I did get copies of them, but now all but one or two are offical cds.-ERIC
