Loverboy's Just Getting Started

I wouldn't normally talk about another band on a Survivor thread but the new Loverboy album is so good I wanted to share it with you all. Please give it a spin if you get a chance. It's an example of how to take the 80's and make it sound current. It's even got a Def Leppard vibe to it. I hope Survivor rocks like this on their new one. The album strikes the right balance of rockers with ballads. There is no filler! Read Andrew's review.

Silver,

For me it's the best melodic rock effort I have heard in a long long time. RENO does a great job. There's only 1 song I don't care for on the whole disc. If this were the 80's it would be getting lot's of airplay. By the way you can grab it at WALMART for 8.82! Can you believe it.

I'm sorry Silver. I'm hoping to interview Mike Reno sometime in January. I will keep you posted.

Going to try to buy it today. I used to like the new wave vibe of Loverboy's earlier stuff. I did not like Six at all. Overall each Loverboy cd got progressively worse after Get Lucky. I felt the the first cd and Keep it Up were about equal. While all their cds except Six were worthwhile...I just felt their sound got further away from what made them good. Loverboy is very good live and i also really liked their live cd.

Met Loverboy one back in the late 90's. Reno was very shy...almost uncomfortable. Fernette was very nice. Scott Smith rest his soul was a little too friendly with my girlfriend and future wife. Never met Dean or Johnson.

I bet I've seen loverboy more than 15 times in my lifetime, they were awesome back in the early days. Their shows were just like listening to the albums, always right on, and they all had a great stage presence. I became friends with someone several years back that knew them very well and I got to hang out with them back stage a few times. Paul was cool! I really liked Scotty too and was very sad when he died. I went to one show after that and it was just really hard to see them without Scott. It's been several years since I've seen them live but I still think they're great. Get Lucky & Keep it Up is by far their best!

I bought this cd last night. Was out doing Christmas shopping and swung by Walmart and got me my copy. Was goig to about a month ago but Walmart did not have it. I think this is a great cd considering. Considering how hard it is for a band to recapture it's magic after 20 years. I think they did a really good job with making an 80's record. You are right the sound is a little updated, but still updated in a good way....and still very good. One thing kinda erked me a little....was that on the cd it says Vocals Mike Reno and Paul Dean. I don't know who Paul Dean thinks he is but he should not be given equal credit on vocals.......he is barely present on backing vocals.

As for is this as good as Get Lucky and Keep It Up. I would say after two listens...no not that good but still very good. It is as good as any of their other cds though. In some respects this cd reminds me some of Keep It Up.

But this cd is definitely one you gotta thank the band. THey tried to give the fans what they want. They did not say 'We have been there done that". Also, they have some free downloads available including a bonus track. And the cd is only $8.50! This is a cd for the fans. You get that from reading the liner notes also.

Rock I'm so glad you liked it. I hate to recommend something and have someone not like it. I'm going to see the guys play Saturday night. I've seen them twice in concert and Reno's voice is great live. Anyway I hope someday we will get a similar effort from Survivor.

I would of bought it anyways. So no need to worry there. Loverboy is usually a great live act. Been a long time however sinc I hace seen them. Seems like when they come now it is usually as an opening act...which is too bad. I hear they are doing a New Years Show with Honeymoon Suite and Dennis DeYoung in Niagara Falls. That would be a great show.
