Frankie Sullivan Comments On JJ's Departure

Postby Slander » Tue Feb 19, 2008 2:24 am

I don't know if you guys ever read this interview. It comes from a September interview FS did with a local newspaper. Here are his comments on JJ's departure:

"I won’t diss Jim because I spent a lot with him, and he really doesn’t deserve that, but Robin really is turning the flame up one more turn," he said. "It (Jamison’s departure) was just really bizarre how it all went down. His manager started making demands to our management company. Our manager was saying ‘this guy’s crazy; you gotta get rid of him.’ I tried to call Jim to work it out, and it took two or three days to get him on the phone. It was just a weird time. I just said screw it – I got Robin McAuley. Robin was the only choice. I didn’t think about anybody else. We’ve worked together before when I helped produce and write his solo album. I felt in my gut that he was the guy, and I was right. After I convinced him to do it, he came in and, after just one week of practice, he sang the entire set list perfectly."

Notice FS doesn't name call etc.

Jamison is bashed in this piece.
I don't think this makes frankie look a high road-taking saint... :?

Bashed? LOL. I think FS takes the high road here. He doesn't call anyone a demon or a thief etc. I think it speaks for itself.

McAuley was the ONLY choice?

I remember some guy named Dave was the original singer for this band.

I want to hear the guy that sang the hits! Period ! VItal Signs had most of the the hits. Same goes for Styx, Journey, 3 Dog Night ,Foreigner etc. If Tyler ,BonJovi or Mick and the Stones would happen the ship sinks. Peter Cetera made it clear he wanted to raise his daughter and Sammy Hager was just to damn good. Although Brian May waited for many years,I wish he had chosen Jeff Scott Soto to do the songs justice.

Way off on that.
Yes, Jamison is my # 1 AOR voice of all time, but that's nothing I hold against Dave Bickler.

To me Survivor is one of the VERY few bands that's really truly pulled off 2 signature vocal sounds in Bickler and then DoubleJ.
Think about the monsters sung by Dave, among the rest: Nothing Can Shake Me, Eye, The One That Really Matters, Hesitation Dance, CITG, Jackie Don't Go, Half-Life, Hungry Years...

Most back stabbers don't. They take the "high road" a la Steve Perry and perpetuate the charade that they didn't do anything wrong. I won't vouch for Jamison, but knowing a LOT of people that have known Jim Peterik for many years I can say that if Jim Peterik thinks you're an asshole, you probably are.

Like I said man. You are all class. A lot of anger there. Let's hope you can work this out.

Yes, indeed.

OR they go the passive/aggressive route, ala "I'm not going to diss Jimi, BUT...."

Bottom line, Frankie could make this band ENORMOUS again if he'd reach out to and mend fences with BOTH Bickler and Jimi as well as Peterik. You just bounce grove and send McCauley on indefinate loan to Quiet Riot.

Not sure Chris knows this but Frankie's been wanting to fire his ass for years, only thing that keeps him in the band is his nose.

Yeah and while were at it let's let Peterik sing lead and play lead guitar. Yeah let's bounce Grove....your all class JoePa. Grove is a classically trained pianist. Something tells me he is a hell of lot better on keys than JP. How about we keep the band as it is. By the way as far as Robins concerened he runs circles around Jimi and Toby when it comes to belting out Tiger. I for one don't think Toby should be singing the song. What? Liza Minelli wasn't available. Hey maybe we could get Josh Groban? Some guys just shouldn't do certain material.

Yes, throw Grove out if it meant getting a founding member and key Survivor collaborater in peterik back.

Classically trained piansts aren't what I get bunged about in a rock and roll keyboardist anyway.

He's a sideman, Peterik's a legend.

What's your issue with Peterik?

He didn't see eye-to-eye with sullivan so you denigrate his contributions and abilities by damning them with faint praise?

My god Red you can respect someone while having disagreements at the same time. It's called respect. It's not passive/aggressive. Listen I respect Andrew a great deal. He runs this board. I appreciate the forum he offers all of us. I don't agree with him 100 percent of the time. I'm not going to pucker up to make sure he likes me. That is silly. Why is that passive agressive? In the interview I posted it is clear that Frankie DOESN'T get personal about Jimi's departure but doesn't understand his actions. How is that dissing Jamo? Explain.

I realize that like with your snerky "Good luck with bar, Jimi" comments, you're taking a shot a Bickler with the "Sorry Dave is doing Bud ads" comment (you'll surely deny any negative intent now when called upon it with your usual "hey. where's the beef? I think dave's a nice guy and was a good singer once" noise), but maybe it will occur to you that those ads have made Bickler far more relevant (not to mention $) at this time then our favorite band who've been relegated to the musical equivalent of the breathing machine.

Bickler's on TV and and radio and McQuietSurvRiot is playing clam fests.
And they SHOULDN'T be.

BTW, in your above post you're STILL intimating that somehow Andrew's responsible for the CONTENT of the other interview which he did not even conduct?

Guy Dave Bickler is my favorite Surivor singer PERIOD. Always has. Always will be. Don't go here. The band lost it's edge in the 80's because of his departure. Dave has done great for himself. My praise for Dave is all over these message boards. My favorite album is Premonition. JoePa what the hell are you talking about. As far as JJ. You are spot on. I did saracastically say good luck with the bar. How is that a personal attack? You don't see my ranting and raving on this board calling people assholes, douchebags...etc. I think that talk serves no purpose on the bb and it's a shame those fires get stoked. Hey let me know when JJ and JP are headlining big arena's again. So spare me the attacks on Survivor's venues. Let me know when JP and JJ play national tv then pop off.

Why another shot at Andrew?

He was not even part of the discussion.

Clearly your rage at the fact that Andrew ran the Jamison interview that someone else conducted is still consuming you from the inside.

What shot did I take at Andrew other than to say I respect him? How is that a shot? Rage? Where have I on this board used foul language against anyone? JoePa if you are losing an argument it's best if you don't just make up stuff. I will say this again: I have the utmost respect for Andrew and what he does. How many more times do I need to say it? It doesn't mean I have to agree with him 100 percent of the time.

Well, would you favor us with what, exaclty, you're choosing to disagree with Andrew on at this time?

Because you brought up in this thread, where he wasn;t even an issue or discussion point, how you will not bow down and kiss his ass.

I brought it up because you accused me of being passive agressive toward Andrew on this board before. I was citing it as an example of where you can respect someone but not have to agree with them. This is a red herring. Nice try JoePa. You accused FS of being passive agressive and that's nonsense. He didn't respect JJ in the interview at all.
