Irwin a lot of us have had the pleasure of seeing the band a few times...some a lot more than others....

One thing i would recommend to you is to search over the old posts and stuff and you'll fine a lot fo the answers to these questions...there are a tone of concert reviews, memories, information on bootlegs etc. that I think you'll find very interesting to read.

Thanks

Yea.
In fact, just do a complete search of EyeOf's library of posts and you'll find all the bounty of scintillating, titilating, intriguing Survivor reading MORE than sufficient to quench your thirst for knowledge and insight.

I know I'VE done that search :P

Yes, I've seen them probably about 20 times. And then I've also seen Jimi Jamison's band about 20 times too.

The first time I saw Survivor in concert was on the WSC tour in 1987.

Cheers, Irwin.
I'm sure you'll have a passable time at the Jamo show. Even IF the songs have to be tuned down.
Surely it will be at least quasi-distracting, despite the fact JJ's a little more rotund now and does The Statue Of Liberty play onstage (not by choice, mind you) better than some pro quarterbacks.
I'm not going to bash, so as not to rain on your parade, even IF Jimi's band is but a pale imitation of Survivor and missing the gritty street feel Frankie brings. After all, Jim IS an "AOR LEGEND," right? :D
Hope you can look at it for what it is, objectively like me, and block out all the negatives and find a way to enjoy that show. Here's hoping he sings "I'm Always Here" for you.

would be special to hear american heartbeat live beacause there's no guitar at all in the studio version

I'm sure Frankie is doing some solos in this one live....

Apparently the guys are going to do some new songs at Kettering and Hershey. Whether that means old tunes never done before, or really new ones, its not clear. Interesting nonetheless. :)

I saw them in the summer of 1982. Eye of the Tiger was #1 on the radio and they opened up for Kansas[Vinyl Confessions Tour]. Survivor really rocked. I mean really rocked. And hard.

I can only imagine how hard they rocked like in '82, based on the time, the fact they were number 1 and how much that album rocked.

I can't help but feel if FS had not made one of his major F*(k ups and did what the record complany wanted to do and put the band in the video with footage of the number one movie in america, Dave Bicker and the guys might be a household name today...

I mean, think about it. That was the eary, early days of MTV. Stars were MADE in videos then. ANd people could not get enough of Rocky III and the song...I know that would have been on ALL THE TIME. Instead they made a video with a garbage bag waving for a background, because Frankie's ego wouldn't let him share the spot light with the Number 1 movie of the time. Great call.

Hmmm the lameness of Scotti Brothers had nothing to do with it? Yeah blame Sullivan. What a joke. Everyone else in the band is an infant and can bare know responsibility.

Proofs in the pudding Frankie Boy....Enjoy your pudding pop....

From Jim Peterik:

MTV was around for about a year when this was released. Over the next few years, it became standard practice for any popular song from a movie to use footage from the film in the video. These videos were great promotion for the movies, and often didn't show the performers at all (Footage from Footloose, Flashdance and Top Gun showed up on MTV in videos like "Maniac" and "Danger Zone.") Peterik explains how this video came together:
"Initially, it was going to be footage of the band performing contrasted with footage of the movie. One member of the group objected to that because he wanted to feel that the group was a group on its own and not just tied to the movie, which was pretty valid motivation. I didn't agree with it. I thought, 'Hey, let's capitalize on this movie.' The same person came up with a storyboard mimicking Stallone's rise to fortune to a young band from Chicago's rise to fortune and notoriety. That became the video of a band woodshedding in a funky warehouse, then walking down the street in a funky part of town with determination on their face and eventually hitting the big stage and performing the song. That's what came out. It was a popular video, but it was in the very early days of video. I look at it now and just cringe because it was so stiff and primitive."

now who here thinks that 'other' band member was Stephen Ellis that came up with that lame ass idea?

Can't you just hear Frankie now. "Hey, we don't need that great move. We need more shots of me."

Damn Slander, it must suck to be proven that wrong. Hmm...Scotti Brothers...to quote you:

"Hmmm the lameness of Scotti Brothers had nothing to do with it? NOPE

Yeah blame Sullivan. I will and do. As does JP it seems.

His ego and endless demand for total control.

And you'll come back by blaming the other band members for not stoping him. Makes a lot of sense. I mean, why stop the GREAT Francis Sullivan.

First Eye...When did Rocky 3 come out? When were the other movies released. To show movie clips in videos didn't become practice until much later. Secondly this was the first look ever really at Survivor. The band needed to be seen. Third Kenny Loggins was already an established star when he did the top gun vid. In fact I think he is barely shown in the video. As far as Flashdance Irene Cara and Michael Sembello were barely shown if at all in those videos for FLASHDANCE. Survivor need to establish itself. By the way I think the band did just that! Burning Heart was a perfect video because people already knew the band.

Yes Scotti Brothers was a lame company. Is that even up for discussion here? They did such little promotion for the group. Eye are you really defending Scotti Brothers. Oh yeah..this just end Frankie Sullivan responsible for GLOBAL WARMING.

Scotti Bros sucked, but they didn't nix the idea of mixing the band and movie footage for Eye, Frankie did.

They also didn't come up with the lame ass story board...Frankie did.

That video established nothing and it was hardly EVER shown on MTV, despite the fact the song was number one.

Yes the Burning Heart video is much better, but three years too late. Video was on the down by then.
