AJM's piece on the front page CONFIRMS: Bickler to appear singing with Jamison on the track When Rock Was King.
:!:

Mike Reno, Don Barnes and Mickey Thomas also sing on the track.

I was sad to see that "The Heart of A Women" wasn't on the new cd.
I hope these guys continue to work together now. Peterik never seems to run out of songs . He has so many different talents to bring to the table it's amazing.

It is awesome to hear Jimi sound so good.. It makes you wonder what might have been had these guys never stopped working together.

The cool thing for me is to hear the passion back in the vocals and two of my favorite musicians playing together again and sounding awesome.

Everyone thought Jamo had lost it.. From the first tune "Behind The Music" and the sound of that tune that made up for the lackluster performance of Survivor's Reach cd. Production is the key with crystal clear vocals and soaring melodies with a flare of passion and a message of hope is what inspires me behind the music.

- Far better songs on there than Heart Of A Woman. There were over 20 songs written for the record and I don't miss that one at all :)

- Passion in spades...the album is pure magic.

Indeed I do :)

Nice to hear some songs that I originally heard with only JPs guide vocal and no drums, delivered in full blown production mode with JJ singing his ass off.

ANDREW

A few questions for you.

1. So far, how would you rank the new album when compared to Empires?

2. Do you feel that Jamo sounds the best he has since say the THTS album?

3. So far, how do you think that the new album would rank when compared with Journey's Revelation album?

Journey/Survivor

1 - Above Empires as it just has that classic AOR / JP feel.
2 - Jamo sounds as good as he has in 20 years.
3 - Right up there and maybe even above Revelation. Still a month to go before I will review officially.

I had a friend send me the tracks mp3.....Look Away was heads and tails above all the other tracks for me....I really dug it.....I agree it's WAYYY ahead of Empires, I only dug a few tracks on that album...

I agree Jamo sounds GREAT, age is a baddd thing to singers and pro-tools can help that, but tone is something the singer has to bring....and Jamo did.....

Here is my 2 cents....DO NOT compare this to a Survivor album....treat it as a JJ album, and a REALLY great one at that....but melodically it goes in places a Survivor song would not like the sudden inserted high notes like on the POL albums that Toby pulled off masterfully and the keyboard sounds are different, the guitar tones are different, and the drumming is not the static Survivor drumming we are used to......I think Ed Breckenfeld plays wonderfully, and it swings more than old Survivor kudos to Ed...Droubay on the other hand is a rock machine....

Am I surprised, Yes....I thought it would be good...but it is great....is it a classic Survivor album, no.....but what is???? I can hear the album going there at times, but those albums had ingrediants to the chili that are not here in 2008....I do think that ALL fans of ANY of Jamo's stuff will LOVE this album.....he delivered the goods....now make sure you BUY it.....

I still thought he sounded fantastic on Reach, especially Fire Makes Steel?

Obviously a more mature Jamo, but Frankie rather than trying to obscure that difference (ala Kevin Shirley allowing Augeri to be muddled at many points on Journey's Arrival) embraced and showcased that vocal depth on Reach.

No matter how great the album is, it will never be the same as a Survivor album, seeing as there will be no Frankie Sullivan guitar playing or Marc Droubay drumming on it.

But it will be AWESOME to hear Jimi again, especially if it's the best he's sounded in the last 20 years, and with the greatest songwriter of all time, Jim Peterik, being a major contributor to the album.

It will also be great to hear Dave Bickler, Joe Lynn Turner and the others on the album.

Great post...

I will add one thing....it's the JP/FS connection that is not there.....that IS SURVIVOR....I LOVE Frankie...we are buds....but only WITH JP can that magic be created.....

I COMPLETELY respect Andrew and everybodies opinion.....but, for me, unless FS AND JP are on it, it is not Survivor.....BUT, this is a GREAT album....lots of hard work, and I can hear all the time they spent on Jamo's vocals....and it was worth it!!

Thank You for this statement Joe.......Now as Babylon AD once said "When the hammer swings down" Time for the Axe to swing!!!!!!!!!!

Can someone tell me WHY some of us on here are always vilified by a certain someone because we have the audacity to say that it hasn't been survivor since Jim Peterik left......in spite of whomever has..."kept it going" etc.
Glad to see that you agree with us Joe. We all know Jim is a much stronger songwriter than others and we also know that the others I refer to, are good at taking an exsisting melody or idea and "fleshing it out". That has been my statement since day 1. Why are we vilified for thinking that? Not by you so to speak, but by others?
