Just found this blog with info on the HOB on 10/9

It's a benefit...anyone with 250.00 can go
Not only is World Stage scheduled with Jim Peterik, also Jimi Jamison and Dave Bickler and Kelly Keagy.
I'm tempted to spend the 250.00 to go see all three on stage again.

I would love to be there but $250 I don't know. Especially after dropping $185 last week on the Eagles. Also, not sure about the San Miguel thing. They better keep Nick Colionne on a strict time limit. To me, he overstayed his welcome at the Feb. World Stage show. He was good...at first, but stayed too long.

Just my opinion....but....I think the Lifeforce thing will detract from the rest of the show.....JP is not a jazz guy.....those guys that are in that arena are softspoken artists that never self promote their product and they only do jazz, they live jazz....JP is a rock guy that is doing jazz versions of his prior written and cowritten hits.....I am all for the guy making a buck, and nobody mines old material better than him, but world stage was always a rock fest....and I was honored to do World Stage 1 - 4......but I feel the jazz thing will throw it a bit off course....I am HUGE fan of those shows.....but to me....they are a rock show laden with hits.....I just hope it doesn't become a "vehicle" to sell other new product.....

Mecca is cool....the commercials I have done were real lucrative and fun, all the dozens and dozens of demos I sang for JP were cool too.....but World Stage will always hold a special place in my heart.....I just hope they keep it like it was.....

I am going to go....it will be my first World Stage show since I stopped doing them after WS 4....a close friend has endured a tragedy and I am going to support him....should be a good show, they always are.....

For $250 it wouldn't have been worth it.

That's worse for you. He could've snuck up on you.

Saw Steve Smith's Jazz Legacy at Martyrs for $15 instead.

I was at the show on Thursday. It was a great time. The show was a benefit for the San Miguel school of music.

Setlist as best as i can remember

World Stage band:
Night of the World Stage

Jimi Jamison:
High On You
The Search Is Over
I Can't Hold Back
Burning Heart
---- I've seen Jimi many times recently and this was the best he's sounded and looked yet. Great versions sung in the original keys with power.

Jim Peterik's Lifeforce:
Unconditional Surrender
---- Lisa McClowery on vocals, amazing live singer with great, sexy moves on stage

Ray Parker Jr.
You Can't Change That
The Other Woman
Ghostbusters
---- Ray was superb and got a huge response from the crowd. Great to hear "The Other Woman" which wasn't played in the Soundstage show taping.

Lobster Newburg:
Lobster Newburg song #1 -- very proggy, riff reminded me of "Belexes" by Kansas
Lobster Newburg song #2 -- also Kansas-influenced, more melodic and catchy, with a proggy midsection
---- This is Jim's son Colin's band. These kids can play. Great super energetic drummer. Colin plays keys and sings lead.

The Ides of March:
L.A. Goodbye
Rebel Girl (LEAD VOCALS BY DAVE BICKLER)
Vehicle
---- very cool to see Dave with the Ides -- Rebel Girl sounded more like the 1980 version than the FMS version, but with horns. Cross between the Ides version and the 1980 Survivor version.

Pride of Lions:
Sound of Home
---- Toby's voice is of course excellent, but it's his stage presence that really impressed. He has really grown as a performer. No longer wooden, he now commands the stage

Martha Davis:
Mission of Mercy
Suddenly Last Summer
Only The Lonely
---- Superb! Her voice is exactly as it was in the early '80s. You can tell that the band loves playing her tunes. Threw in some pro-Obama political commentary

Nick Collione:
1. guitar instrumental -- really good, crowd loved it
2. smooth ballad, which I think he said JP cowrote
3. slow ballad, possibly called Rainy Night In Georgia
---- his dress sense rival's JP's. Turquoise suit and shoes, pimp hat -- this guy's got style. His set ran a little long for my tastes, but the crowd enjoyed him

Dave Bickler:
Summer Nights
Eye of the Tiger
---- "Summer Nights" was insanely good -- they played the shorter version from the LP, not the "full-length version" from the CD. Phenomenal. "Tiger" was one of the best versions I've heard -- when Dave sings it, you know it was written for him. He just glides across the notes.

Mickey Thomas & Stephanie Calvert:
Fooled Around & Fell In Love
We Built This City
---- Mickey and Stephanie are always great and tonight was no different. Mickey hasn't lost a thing vocally either. World Stage band sounded amazing on "We Built This City"

Kelly Keagy:
Sister Christian
Don't Tell Me You Love Me
---- due to time constaints, a set change was not possible so Kelly was singing only -- he did not play drums. Very interesting to see him as a frontman. He sounded good on "Don't Tell Me You Love Me" which I've never heard him sing lead on before.

You'll notice that the sets got shorter as the night went on. Unfortunately, because this was a benefit show, there was an opening act -- The Lovin' Spoonful. One of their members is (I think) on the board of the school for which the benefit was being held. The Spoonful played longer than their alotted setlist. World Stage was supposed to begin at 8 pm but didn't actually start until closer to 9 because the Spoonful ran overtime. This meant that some of the later WS sets had to be cut. I was especially disappointed because Dave was scheduled to sing "Somewhere in America" as part of his set and i was dying to hear it. But it wasn't meant to be.

Nonetheless, an amazing night of music. Highlights for me were Jimi, Ray Parker Jr., Martha Davis, and Dave Bickler... well, pretty much all of it, because Lifeforce was also excellent, as was the first Nick Collione instrumental. This was a very loose show -- Stephanie from Starship was out in the audience dancing with us when she didn't have to be on stage. Ray Parker Jr. arrived on stage with a pulled pork sandwich in his hand -- he'd been eating over by the bar before hopping on stage -- it was that kind of night -- loose, good vibes, everyone happy to be there with their buddies.

Here's a pic of Dave, Jimi and me.

Great review! Thanks. I wish I was there but I could not justify the cost, especially on the heels of the Eagles concert I just saw. I'm not really familiar with the school too but if it was for a cause I truly believed in, I may have been willing to drop that kind of dough.

My 2 cents (had I been there):

Interesting Jamison lead off (excluding opening song) but good set from him. Unconditional Surrender is a good song. They performed that earlier this year at WS back in February(?). Parker played the two songs I would want to hear from him (Other Woman and You Can't Change That). Sound Of Home is good but I would've prefered Gone. Lobster Newburg has some good songs, I would be willing to bet one of the songs was Set Your Sails (or something like that). Good tune.

Ides played the songs they had to. Rebel Girl (arguably my favorite Survivor song). Did Bichler hit/scream some of those notes in the song? He is great in this song. Too bad Martha Davis had to make an Obama comment. Shut up and sing. Considering it was for a music school I doubt she offended anyone though. I wish she would've played Remember The Nights instead of Mission of Mercy.

Sounds like Nick Collione overstayed his welcome...again. Unfortunately they didn't learn from earlier this year. He's good but in SMALL doses. I think they had to scrap a Joe Lynn Turner song at the last WS because of him. Hold to one song or two shorter ones. He does have nice clothes. Classy pimp. What was JP wearing. His stuff can be off the wall sometimes. Well, most of the time.

Bichler sang the two songs that probably defined his time in Survivor. I wished Somewhere in America was played too. Mickey Thomas sang his two most famous songs as well. Kelly Keagy has done these two songs at every WS show. I think he usually plays three songs or so.

As far as the set list getting shorter, you're probably right to the reason why but don't discount Collione probably went past his time too. However, with the exception of Bichler not singing Somewhere in America, I don't mind as much who got cut. The newer faces got their time and the old hands got cut. You would've wished the HOB would let them go a little past time since it's a charity gig but they want their dough too.

I am ordering my WS tickets soon for next year. I HOPE JP brings the same crew as this and Soundstage. This is a great, loaded lineup. I know the ticket prices are higher this year so this gives me hope. Soundstage only a handful got to see and I would imagine not that many saw this show due to it being kind of under the radar and the cost. By the way, what was the attendance for this? So, I really hope he brings this crew to WS next year. As much as I like him, cut Keagy if you have to. We've seen him at plenty of shows.

I agree with Tito - a great lookin set, but too bad Bickler didn't get to belt out Somewhere in America. Easily one of my fave songs by them.

Dave hit a fantastic note at the end of the song. Instead of finishing it as "ooh-ooh-girl" and going low, he ended it with a strong "she's just a rebel girl," going high on "girl" and holding the note for what felt like a very long time. It was friggin' awesome! He built in power as the song went on until he just nailed it at the end!

Tito wrote:Too bad Martha Davis had to make an Obama comment. Shut up and sing. Considering it was for a music school I doubt she offended anyone though. I wish she would've played Remember The Nights instead of Mission of Mercy.

Some people didn't like her comment too much, especially the guy wearing a "Bite me Biden" sticker. JP looked surprised that she made a political comment. Mission of Mercy is amazing live though. The band plays it better than the Motels, imo. They hit a great groove on it.

JP was wearing a vest with a tie on underneath, tight black pants and red boots. During his solo in the crowd on Tiger, a girl was smacking his butt! Pretty funny.

Agree, having seen Mickey and Kelly before, I didn't mind missing their extra songs, but was very sad about the extra Dave song. At least we got 3 including Rebel Girl.

Attendance was only a couple hundred people. The interesting thing with this show is that most people there probably weren't there specially for the music. They were there to support the school and the charity auction. The area in front of the stage was full when hits were being played, but pretty open when lesser known acts took the stage. For the few hardcore fans that were there, it was awesome because it was almost like a private show at times. The band seemed to approach it that way too. It was loose and vibey.

Was hoping to meet you there, sorry that you couldn't make it. Your musician friends are probably correct, but thankfully the songs didn't sound "different." Nothing like the versions on Youtube from the shows with JSS. Or the version of "Search" that i saw Jimi do in Rhode Island a couple months back. They "felt" right, even if some work was done on the keys.

So...

Jamo appears with World Stage and, hey presto - a new Jamo solo album... and now Dave Bickler is appearing at World Stage too...

Come on Mr Peterik - how about a Bickler solo album!

You know you want to!

Reunite the original Jim Peterik Band! Bichler, Peterik, D.K. Johnson, and G. Smith. Probably get M. Aquino to play guitar and as an additional bonus bring Jamison.

Although a nice sitdown meeting with Sullivan would be better. I'm sure this could be resolved after 12 years. Can't it? Hasn't Ides run its course or at least take next summer off? There is no reason Survivor shouldn't be in a Cheap Trick spot on a Journey tour or other comparable tour. They could play on one of these classic rock tours. Hopefully, some of their investments take a hit during this economic disaster and they all need a couple of more dollars as retirement nears. Lets go.

Not that I'm wishing anyone bad luck or anything.

Great ideas and Im all for it! Alas, the bad news (depends who you talk to) for FS to join, he would need to tell Robin that his services are no longer needed. FS is quite happy with Robin at present.

My own feeling, is that JP and FS at present don't seem to be interested in going back in time.

I think they are both happy doing what they are doing....FS is Survivor and out playing select gigs and having fun.....and JP gets to front all the projects he is doing and be the lead singer and the main guy....I just don't see it happening.....boths guys are mid 50's and have experianced a lot of success, why not do things the way they want it....I hope when I am their age that I am doing exactly what I want as well....on my own terms.....more power to them....

You just ruined my day.

JP needs to put the mic down and stick to background vocals and let the pros (JJ and DB) handle lead vox. Don't get me wrong JP vocals are good for Ides and other music.

Great ideas and Im all for it! Alas, the bad news (depends who you talk to) for FS to join, he would need to tell Robin that his services are no longer needed. FS is quite happy with Robin at present.

My own feeling, is that JP and FS at present don't seem to be interested in going back in time.

But Ides of March isn't? They need to put their differences aside and rock.

JV

You just ruined my day.

JP needs to put the mic down and stick to background vocals and let the pros (JJ and DB) handle lead vox. Don't get me wrong JP vocals are good for Ides and other music.

JP's vocals are PERFECT for the Ides....he wrote all of it mainly on his own for his own voice and range....he sounds great with them....but....all the other material he writes is ALWAYS for a high tenor, and he is not a high tenor...so the stretch or the tuning down those tunes does not do them justice....but, I think he will be singing lead with the Ides forever, and rightfully so....they are all best friends, grew up together and have a great time entertaining their core audiance.....if you can ever catch a show do it, it is always a great gig catching the Ides tunes even though half of the tunes are Survivor, and 38 special.....fun time......JV
The World was flat once....what happened??
