Rocky IV - Dave and Jimi on the same soundtrack

Postby SecondsAway » Thu Sep 25, 2008 5:26 am

When Rocky IV came out it was good to have Survivor with both Dave EOTT and Jimi BH on the same soundtrack. But there was (and still is for me) the sorta Survivorish sounding "Sweetest Victory". Does anyone know who the lead singer really is, and for that matter anything about the Band? :?:

The band was called Touch. This is the info from Wikipedia, take it for what it's worth:

Touch were a rock band from New York City formed in 1978. Members included Mark Mangold (songwriter and keyboards) and Glen Kithcart (drums), both who had previously been in the band American Tears (releasing three albums on Columbia Records).

Their single, "Don't You Know What Love Is" only reached #69 on the Billboard Hot 100. However, the song was played heavily on AOR radio stations in the USA at the end of the 1970s, and reached the #1 spot on the Melody Maker chart in Great Britain.

Touch were the first band to play at the inaugural Monsters of Rock festival at Castle Donington racetrack in 1980. Rumour has it that a member of Touch swallowed a bee while performing onstage. A live version of "Don't You Know What Love Is" appeared on a compilation LP simply called Monsters of Rock, documenting performances at the festival.

The eponymous debut album by Touch, originally issued on Atco Records in 1980, has been noted as a touchstone for artists working in the recently developed, but retro leaning, Melodic Rock genre.

Todd Rundgren produced a 2nd unreleased LP for Touch. The recordings only recently surfaced as bonus tracks on the CD reissue of the first album.

Mark Mangold has continued to write and record with and for other artists. The song "I Found Someone", a collaboration with Michael Bolton, was recorded by Laura Branigan and ultimately became a top 10 hit for Cher.

This band Touch, of the late 1970s and early 1980s, is not to be confused with the American pro-prog band Touch, formed in 1966 (releasing the seminal album Touch in 1969).

Nothing about a vocalist, nothing about the Rocky IV track, nothing post 1980 as a band (although there is a tracklisting for the 2nd album "Touch II" from 1982)...

That has always been the mystery it is not that band called Touch as far as I am aware, dont know if it was another band called Touch, thanks for the info though. To complicate matters the re-released Rocky iv from a few years ago(the version that adds Man Against The World) has a remixed version of the track!!

Further research gets me to http://www.rockdetector.com/artist/usa/new+york/touch with this info:

"Craig Brooks
Drums/Guitar/Vocals

Doug Howard
Bass/Vocals

Glen Kithcart
Drums

Mark Mangold
Guitar/Keyboards/Organ/Piano/Vocals
"

But nothing in the Bio mentions Rocky IV or the song "Sweetest Victory".

That's all I can find. But when I trace back Mark Mangold to "American Tears" it appears he was the vocalist in that band. So I would guess that IF this is the right band than Mark is the vocalist.

Did you know that "Man Against The World" by Survivor was added to the soundtrack when it was re-issued in 2006? This song was apparantly written for but cut from the movie.

(What am I thinking, of course you guys know this...)

Sorry, didn't see this post while I was looking around.

On www.imdb.com the song is listed as by Mark Torien. Wasn't he the lead singer of the Bulletboys?

I have that soundtrack, and I always thought that the singer on that song was almost a dead-ringer for Steve Perry.

I had heard that the singers name is Mark Torien.

I would love to have that song on CD so I could put it on one of my workout CD's. I only have it on cassette.

Thanks for the suggestion. :)

But I would assume that you need a credit card to do so? And I really strongly avoid using credit cards on the internet.

I don't know if we're any closer to the real identity of these guys, but I think if I were part of that band and could sing like that, nothing would have stopped me from finding 9 more songs and coming up with a killer album!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I am wary of using my CC online, I go buy a Visa gift card and use that. It's preloaded with a dollar amount and no personal info is attached to it.

Thanks. That is a good idea. I did do that a number of years ago to order something off the internet. I forgot all about that.
